Very nice. My little brother (48 years old) just found an abandoned mandolin very similar to this on a passenger train where he works on the east coast (of the US). It laid in the lost and found for 60-some days before they told him to take it away. He gave it to me. Don't worry about the negative folks. Teenagers pounding their puds have to do something to kill time in their mother's basements...
Nice one !..... god there are some ignorant people commenting on this video, even people who should know better than to have a dig at another musician (TheFretted, mandolin teacher my arse) and I can't believe 19 people gave it a thumbs down, clearly they cannot understand the music or appreciate this guys talent, sad really : )
@TheFretted the title of the video isn't him bragging it's the name if the song... See the description where it says Brilliancy by Bush? That's Bush as in Sam Bush, one of the greatest mandolin players of all time. Do ur homework next time.
Nice! Thanks for sharing. When I saw your title, I thought, "Huh—either this person is very, very good, or they need some modesty lessons." I didn't realize "Brilliancy" was actually the name of a tune...
BTW, my Yamaha keyboard has a "Brilliancy" slider that adds more presence to the sounds. I like to point to it and tell people that whenever I run out of ideas, I just push up the Brilliancy slider and suddenly I'm playing all kinds of fascinating stuff. :?)
If you know the answers to stupid questions, then don't ask the stupid questions and you won't get someone amswering the stupid questions that you asked.
Wow.. So glad to have " mature" conversations with adults. Are you sure your not some teeny-bopper just saying that your an adult? In either case it's time to move past the childish tendency's, alright Chief.
Let me ask you, where do you get your sheet music? If you don't order it online, then who is the publisher/s?
All I can seem to find locally is beginner mandolin music. Anything more advanced than that in local stores was written with the fiddle in mind, and isn't usually the sort of music I'm interested in playing.

Dude shut the fuck up and open your ears. I've seen your stupid ass on about five or six videos begging someone to send your dumb ass tabs.
How about a tag on your toe instead? That's what an idiot like you deserves;being put out of your misery, eusthanised or whatever the fuck they call it. Now go eat shit and die maggot.
Okay, cool down, man. Good advice, but after the first sentence, you just lost it. Yeah, oggendoggen2, quit asking for tabs. But speakwhnspkn2, correction is good, but not when you tell someone to go eat shit and die.
When I first started playing guitar I was just like oggendoggen. I looked for tabs on everything and anything, and I asked a bunch of people on the internet. Eventually, I learned where to find them on my own and then finally learned how to play by ear. Give Oggendoggen a break. He means no harm.
very cool version of this tune. You have probably been asked a hundred times, but is there a decent tab of this song available? and where might i find it? Thanks for any info. and thanks for the video
Nice! Have played guitar for almost 40 yrs, pro musician and artist for the past 25 years. A year ago I found myself with a Collings MT and I haven't put it down since. Perhaps there's a fiddle/mando gene but I can do stuff on the mando I've onlky dreamed to do on the guitar: Folkmusic, jazz, blues, standards. I don't play fast bluegrass stuff but as for slow or midtempo stuff, I can learn almost any song. I'm totally amazed. And I play it fingerstyle like it was a guitar.
its not really the instrument but rather the player, im quite sure that jimmy page or jerry garcia ( if he was still around), could rock a mandolin a good bit faster than anything you have to offer.
That's dumb! It has nothing to do with strength and everything to do with skill and ear. What kind of strngth does it take to hold down an electric guitar string? Besides, ihalfthe work is in the pickin' hand.
I played guitar for fifteen years before buying a mandolin recently and I would have to disagree with ya on both counts. FYI: If you find that any instrument is easy to play, then you almost certainly aren't challenging yourself enough ;)
You are very talented...Thanks for the inspiration to try and learn to play better :D I dunno maybe its me, but my a style just doesnt sound good at all when I play it...real folk sounding I cant get bluegrass sounding chords out of it...I think I need lessons :D
Would you be able to help, 'Lee'? Trying to learn this tune myself, I am having difficulties with the timing and picking pattern of the intro. A brief outline of this section would be much appreciated. Once again, very nice playing.
the same problems with the timing of the intro, try to get it fast and smooth and that starts by playing it slower, precise and often. I can't tell you how many times I've played this tune and it still isn't perfect. Try to visualize the time in your head. Also regarding the intro it's a slide to the A on the 3rd string and then an upstroke on the open E then 2 consecutive downstrokes on A (3rdString) then open A, then upstroke on open E. Email me if you have any questions.
Please feel encouraged to put another mando tune on your site. Something else from Sam's repertoire would be great. I am learning Brilliancy myself at the moment and your playing helps immensely.
