  • Peak to peak batik!

  • AWESOMENESS!! And I'm a heavy metal fan!

  • Fantastic playing. I don't reckon there's a tab available?

  • wow that is great

    Corkey

  • Nice T-shirt!!!!

  • Awesome, sparkly positive vibe. Thanks! :)

  • Very nice. My little brother (48 years old) just found an abandoned mandolin very similar to this on a passenger train where he works on the east coast (of the US). It laid in the lost and found for 60-some days before they told him to take it away. He gave it to me. Don't worry about the negative folks. Teenagers pounding their puds have to do something to kill time in their mother's basements...

  • perfect timing and clear tone. Awesome.

  • great job.

  • amazing ....

  • LUVVVVV IT!

  • i hate trolls

  • Nice one !..... god there are some ignorant people commenting on this video, even people who should know better than to have a dig at another musician (TheFretted, mandolin teacher my arse) and I can't believe 19 people gave it a thumbs down, clearly they cannot understand the music or appreciate this guys talent, sad really : )

  • yey! folk music arguments via the internets!

  • cool shirt

    nice old-time sound

  • Great job.I need to start practicing my mandolin again. Its harder then most people think.

  • how do you get into the mandolin ?

  • @Stung5 you have to be REALLY small

  • @aboveheaven08

    Completely amazing.

  • minunattt bv felicitari !! ;)

  • @TheFretted the title of the video isn't him bragging it's the name if the song... See the description where it says Brilliancy by Bush? That's Bush as in Sam Bush, one of the greatest mandolin players of all time. Do ur homework next time.

  • Did you know you have a pinky to play with?

  • @justinge999 @ 0:26 he uses it xD

  • ok, you know the scales somewhat, now play something besides the same thing!!

  • @TheFretted maybe you could post your own video and show us how it's done big talker.

  • @rbloch66... Well exactly (mandolin teacher my arse) it is wrong in so many ways to pull holes in another musician, what a pompous twat

  • yip

  • Nice! Thanks for sharing. When I saw your title, I thought, "Huh—either this person is very, very good, or they need some modesty lessons." I didn't realize "Brilliancy" was actually the name of a tune...

BTW, my Yamaha keyboard has a "Brilliancy" slider that adds more presence to the sounds. I like to point to it and tell people that whenever I run out of ideas, I just push up the Brilliancy slider and suddenly I'm playing all kinds of fascinating stuff. :?)

  • Good Timing!

  • i am jealous of your cross-picking skills :P

  • Nice tune. It sounds really sweet. :o)#

  • bitchin song bro :)

    ~Bungee

  • Got a tuner!??

  • great job

  • Damn good!

    @BatRonHigh

    shut the fuck up!

  • No. The song is.

  • If you know the answers to stupid questions, then don't ask the stupid questions and you won't get someone amswering the stupid questions that you asked.

  • Wow.. So glad to have " mature" conversations with adults. Are you sure your not some teeny-bopper just saying that your an adult? In either case it's time to move past the childish tendency's, alright Chief.

  • no, its the song name

  • they are not all in the same key- the pitch is always high because that is how the mandolin sounds.

  • Pitch and Key are two different things JB! Jeeezizz.

  • Reminds me of hunting rabbit's in the pasture!

  • very cool

  • I love this song. When I was little I used to call Brilliancy my "theme song". LOL

  • This song makes me happy =)

  • tabs please? =)

  • @BatRonHigh Dumb ass Australian Kangaroo fucker... Talk to somebloody who knows what the hell you're tryin to say

  • I play that too!

It's a great tune and I love playing the mandolin!

  • sounds wonderful !!! , any chance of doing TAB for those of us that would love to learn it please please please ?

  • I want the tabs too!!! thanks!

  • very nice,,,thats a tough one to learn,,,one of my favorite tunes but havent learned it yet,,,check my vids out under reb0964 nice job!!!!!

  • you should look up videos of carnatic mandolin. mandolins sound best when being played in the style of south india.

  • Mandolins sound the best when the player loves what (s)he's playing, actually.

  • Amen to that.

  • Gettin a mandolin for christmas. Can't wait.

  • unbelievable.

  • this is well done and enjoyable. i would love to learn to play.

also, your hand looks a lot like a spider going up and down the neck of the mandolin lol.

  • That's funny. I guess it does. It's always weird to see yourself playing back.

  • so southy, brilliant

  • excellent

  • I am so gonna sell my body to get a bloody mandolin.

I've been gawking at the mandolins at my local guitar shop, but unfortunately, I'm dead broke.

  • im in the same position

  • do u have one yet if you dont i know a web site that you can get a mandolin and a guitar for just a $99

  • That's what I just did... the reviews look good and I want to learn both

  • @vergarihno you can get a decent cheap starter Mandolin for around $80 try Kansas brand

  • @angiebelle454 i just got one brand new from musicians friend dot com for 40 bucks. sounds beautiful.

  • @angiebelle454 i just got one brand new from musicians friend dot com for 40 bucks. sounds beautiful.

  • Good playing, thumbs up.

  • what mando is this man... sounds beautiful to me. the playing is smooth and fine.

  • Excellent playing. However, although I don't mean to nitpick, your A strings are not in tune together.

  • mmm..marathon rocks...though you are nitpicking

  • is that a string cheese incident t-shirt i detect?!?

  • Let me ask you, where do you get your sheet music? If you don't order it online, then who is the publisher/s?

All I can seem to find locally is beginner mandolin music. Anything more advanced than that in local stores was written with the fiddle in mind, and isn't usually the sort of music I'm interested in playing.

  • Whoahoaaa! Now that's nice mandolin picking :)Just my kind of tune, I love it. Favorites!

  • Watch carefully - the "gay pinky" makes an appearence when it's needed. Well done Lee.

urface- watch the whole clip before commenting on it- better luck next time u pathetic dribble of premature ejac

  • wow your an asshole

  • urfaceislolburn...insecure much?

    LOL!

  • You must be blind, douchebag. He uses plenty of pinky.

  • @urfaceislolburn wow. you really have no life at all do you, insulting other people just because they have a different god damned style of playing.

  • Howdy Lee, Nice work! I like the tempo too, played as a hornpipe. Looks like your mando has the "cut off" like Sam's.

Tab with video instruction are available through Homespun Tapes, "Sam Bush". I like the Sam plays Bill Monroe video better though, if anyone cares.

  • Terrific!

    regards

  • Hey Thanks!....this is great to watch where your fingers go. No Tabs required. I can almost see Roy Underhill coming up to the Woodshop...

  • BRILLIANCY!

  • good job

  • that was amazing!

  • brilliant sound and vision.well done and thanks.

  • Awesomest tune in the world!!

tried too learn it but i couldnt get the hang of it... :(

  • cool tune, great job, its the shirt that sucks ass

  • I play all instruments that have strings on them incl the mandolin... and that's one nice tune you have there.

  • Tabs -- WHERE?!

    TAKE ME TO YOUR TABS!

I feel like a tab addict.

  • Okay, cool down, man. Good advice, but after the first sentence, you just lost it. Yeah, oggendoggen2, quit asking for tabs. But speakwhnspkn2, correction is good, but not when you tell someone to go eat shit and die.

  • When I first started playing guitar I was just like oggendoggen. I looked for tabs on everything and anything, and I asked a bunch of people on the internet. Eventually, I learned where to find them on my own and then finally learned how to play by ear. Give Oggendoggen a break. He means no harm.

  • Nice!

  • Excellent; nice clean playing! Keep being an embassador for this lovely little instrument!

  • Look I already practice the guitar, harmonica and penny whistle, so stop encouraging me to learn the mandolin as well. Boy that's a thought. 5*

  • Out of curiosity, where does one get a pennywhistle?

  • Great tune - and played brilliancy!

  • there are two versions of tablature for this song at mandolincafe...dot...com

  • thanks for the info. I will try that site. I was going crosseyed trying to pick the parts out since the video lags a litle. Only got part A down.

  • very cool version of this tune. You have probably been asked a hundred times, but is there a decent tab of this song available? and where might i find it? Thanks for any info. and thanks for the video

  • wow I think mandolin might pwn guitar or is this guy just really good

  • I can name a few instruments that "pwn" guitar:

Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle, and yes... even the stand up bass.

  • How right you are!!! I play all of those as well as the mando!

  • The song is called Brilliancy. It was written and composed by Sam Bush. It is on the album "Glamour & Grits.

  • it was actually written by howdy forrester and this is like sams arrangment.

  • Some parts of this song sounds really norwegian (as in norwegian folk-music)

Whats the name of the song?

  • Beautiful song. Honestly though, if you didn't have that shirt on, it would have lost it's mystery and happiness.

  • Daddy likes a lot

  • Nice! Have played guitar for almost 40 yrs, pro musician and artist for the past 25 years. A year ago I found myself with a Collings MT and I haven't put it down since. Perhaps there's a fiddle/mando gene but I can do stuff on the mando I've onlky dreamed to do on the guitar: Folkmusic, jazz, blues, standards. I don't play fast bluegrass stuff but as for slow or midtempo stuff, I can learn almost any song. I'm totally amazed. And I play it fingerstyle like it was a guitar.

  • that was tight man

trust me, even if you are great at guitar, mandolin is a world apart and takes as just as much time to acquaint to

  • Great Job!! Now put some Thomastik-Infeld Heavy's on there and whalla!!

  • You, my good sir, KICK ASS!!!

  • Real nice playing! Thanx for sharing, D.

  • I love to see someone play something other than guitar. Everyone plays guitar especially electric.

  • hey that was mad, wat brand of mandolin would u recommend to a person who's done a lot of guitar and wants to learn mandolin

  • nice tune

  • that song is one of my faves!what kind of mandolin is that?

  • oy...great picking!

  • pOrKeePiNE is snaggled tooth moron!

  • and by the way guitars can do damn more faster things then mandolin.

  • its not really the instrument but rather the player, im quite sure that jimmy page or jerry garcia ( if he was still around), could rock a mandolin a good bit faster than anything you have to offer.

  • mandolin is the easiest intrument u can play... it takes no strength to hold a string. u could even hole the whole thing with ur pinky its kool.

  • That's dumb! It has nothing to do with strength and everything to do with skill and ear. What kind of strngth does it take to hold down an electric guitar string? Besides, ihalfthe work is in the pickin' hand.

  • I played guitar for fifteen years before buying a mandolin recently and I would have to disagree with ya on both counts. FYI: If you find that any instrument is easy to play, then you almost certainly aren't challenging yourself enough ;)

  • maybe u suk :D

  • You Must Be Kidding!!!!!! Mandolin Is one of the hardest things play! I dont Think Ricky Skaggs or Chris Thile Play the mandolin because its easy!!!

  • good job - nice playing

  • Great! it inspires me to practise harder every day.

  • im gona buy one tomorrow

  • I think i should have learnt the mando!!!

  • never 2 late to learn a new instrument...

  • good stuff

  • Great job on an awesome tune by one of the best.

  • Very impressive. Thinking of buying a mandolin, inspirational.

  • Been learning 5 weeks ( one day perhaps ) Very Nice All the best

  • You are very talented...Thanks for the inspiration to try and learn to play better :D I dunno maybe its me, but my a style just doesnt sound good at all when I play it...real folk sounding I cant get bluegrass sounding chords out of it...I think I need lessons :D

  • dude wats the string tuning for those thingys???

  • E-A-D-G STARTING 1ST (THIN) STRING

  • mandolins are GDAE

  • Paultheman88 means GDAE starting from the 4th (lowest) string.

  • very nice

  • great

  • mandolin is sooo cool i wana learn it someday=]...by the way u did great!!!=]

  • i wanna learn this piece!!! was it hard?

  • Would you be able to help, 'Lee'? Trying to learn this tune myself, I am having difficulties with the timing and picking pattern of the intro. A brief outline of this section would be much appreciated. Once again, very nice playing.

  • the same problems with the timing of the intro, try to get it fast and smooth and that starts by playing it slower, precise and often. I can't tell you how many times I've played this tune and it still isn't perfect. Try to visualize the time in your head. Also regarding the intro it's a slide to the A on the 3rd string and then an upstroke on the open E then 2 consecutive downstrokes on A (3rdString) then open A, then upstroke on open E. Email me if you have any questions.

  • Please feel encouraged to put another mando tune on your site. Something else from Sam's repertoire would be great. I am learning Brilliancy myself at the moment and your playing helps immensely.

  • Thanks guys - I had fun doing it.

The mando is called a Greyson built by Craig Thomas of the Stagerobbers in Southern CA. He only makes Alren Mandos now but is a fine builder.

  • nice playin!! which mando is that?

  • Great playing. Really enjoyed listening to you playing this tune.
