Owen was awesome! My all time fave T are the versis.. Thet are just amazingly pretty, and I find it so fascinating how they completly change colour and markings as they get older.

As far as I've understood, they're the only spec. who change so drastically in colour?

It is the worst thing you could ever do for this hobby!! The genus gets all in pure and un identified....the toxomity reports are thrown out of wack...it is just terrible!!!

Do you mean crossbreeding different species of the same genus or inbreeding Ts of the same bloodline? I get most of my Ts from an entomologist who has done tracking research of Aphonopelma species in the wild and found that they inbred in natural circumstances - both siblings inbreeding and spawn eventually coming back to inbreed with the mother! He says based on this and no observable difference in inbred Ts he sees no problem inbreeding in captivity. I do see a problem with crossbredding, tho.

These are the best to handle....it would be hard to make them bite you LOL....I do have these avaiable for sale....they are 1" slings...they are electric blue and will change in color with every molt!!

I keep mine at 82-85* so where you live shouldn't be much of a factor...I have several friends in CA who keep all sorts of Avics and they're all just fine.

I don't think it's unusual...least from what I'm hearing. I had tended to think they were more docile but the female's definetly seem more aggressive.

No not unusual at all - my avic turned on me once, there are still have wild instinct like any other tarantula so can turn at any moment

Holding him too high?? I know that. LOL But it's not an issue as much with the Versi's...they have been documented falling 30-40 ft from trees and surviving.

Side note: yes it is but it's very bad for the hobby and just in general...hybrids are a no-no!!

i've heard the falling from trees thing as well. From my experience, arboreal are thicker skinned than terrestrials and will survive falls alot better due to their natural habitat at elevation

I've yet to meet a male versi that wasn't a perfectly calm and mellow spider. I've also yet to meet a female versi that didn't want to bite my friggin finger off.
