@jaylyn3 actually goku & all the main characters from dragonball are supposed to be chinese. akira toriyama classifies dragonball as a kung fu manga that he came up with based off of old jackie chan movies. the outfits the fighters wear are supposed to be akin to shaolin monk robes.

also, i think the red ribbon army are supposed to be based off the nazis. the red ribbons they wear being like the red armband the nazis wore. just look at the character General Blue

@nihonjin84 Japanese are not very confident in front of western people, in old time, they are not confident in front of China, they are always talking about their "tiny" country, although their's is not so small compared with other European countries. Now, Japan is much better than China, in terms of economy and technology, they do not want to lose the status. Sometimes the cartoon shows their attitude. Anyway, we don't need to care about it too seriously.

@HowieXW thats true, many japanese cartoons have an american opponent/supporting character that either dies or doesn't do as well as the main character (japanese of course)

it is similar to american shows where the black guy is always the one who dies in movies (last time) although i'm prepared to admit that america's movie industry is shifting away from that

japan is still quite stuck on their old ways

but you're right, it's just a cartoon, if you dont like it, dont watch it...

towards one eachother, from both sides (been living in tokyo for 2 years)

and did visit china for a month, so seen it first hand.

This is more common among the older people ofc, and a generalization on my part..

That said, i love both countries, and think and hope it's slowly growing away.
