What a very beautiful voice Johnny Mathis has. I've been listening to him for about fifty-odd years ... and his recordings still make the hair on the back of my head stand up. Johnny ... you are wonderful! Wonderful!
yesterdays song is like an elixir of life with healing effects in your distress nerves and awaken your sleeping memory helping to rejoice your goodwill spirit and romantic life as well..
Thank you READ ME..READ YOU,for giving us this heavenly present. I'm bedbound due to spinal surgery, but was lucky enough to see JM in concert many times. Everything he sings is golden and in person I think he hypnotizes the whole audience." Class all the way". Thanks again.
@esthersgirl You're so welcome. I'm glad you came by. There are almost 80 songs of Johnny on my cvhannel, so come by often. I hope you are healing well.
Just soooooo warmmmmmmm and loving, the very essence of life itself. This song has such dignity and poise. So warmly inviting another into deep comfort. John
Your the bomb!! Who is the girl you featured in your video? where are these loveley flowers located? And what inspired you to make such a moving piece? I agree. Thank you for sharing it.
@liason07 My secret. : ) She's in a number of my videos. The flowers are from all over the country......from CA, Hawaii and everywhere else in the USA. My inspiration.......Johnny Mathis. Thank you for being so nice. I appreciate everything you said. God bless........
Watching the video and listening to JM singing could make me pass into a dream (of paradise). I could watch and listen to this over and over and get the same feeling every time. Thanks ReadMeReadYou, I'm sure you made a lot of hearts feel really good with this one!
Johnny seems to be the only one who sings the opening verse, which I think adds a lot to the song. I've loved this arrangement since I first heard it in 1963 or '64.
Beautiful slides that you put with it really helped to feel each word. Johnny as usual is extraordinary with the way his voice is so expressive. Thank you for posting this.
You are right about that. This music comes originally from Borodin's opera "Prince Igor". Many artists and arrangers recorded it beautifully, and Johnny Mathis was only of them. Thanks for posting!!
Angela, your granddaugher is a very beautiful girl! Great video and very moving and romantic song - but then Johnny Mathi is the King of Romance, isn't he? Thank you for sharing your gift and keeping love and memories alive in so many!
Angela, soon I will be your biggest fan, thank you for the beautiful video and this song has always been my favorite, it even brought tears to my eyes. Thank you again your a doll. So glad I found you..............
I love this version I remember when I brought the CD Heavenly I played this song and I envisioned the most beautiful scene of a garden in the summer as a gentle breeze passes by
I was listening to this a few days ago and this Johnny perfomed this song brilliant this song came from one of my favorite Mathis album it simply Heavenly
How wonderful that you got to see him in person and that you were able to grow up listening to Johnny, just as my children did. He's really special. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting.
From his "Heavenly" album, my first of his and I still have it! 1959 I believe. I know every song on the album and have attempted to sing along for 50 years with attempt being the operative word. Seen him in concert 8 times and hope to at least one more time.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It's something how we all know all of his songs and can sing along. I hope to see him again too but I don't think he will be in my are this year and I'm disappointed.
Have had the opportunity to see him twice. I grew up with Mom playing his LP's all the time, and he has always been a favorite. Got to see his 25th Year Concert and then again with Henry Mancini.
Thanks for posting this video. I grew up on Johnny's Greatest Hits album, back when music was recorded on vinyl and long-playing albums went for three bucks. I've continued listening to the Greatest Hits with undiminished pleasure. This video and others of yours have introduced me to wonderful recordings of his I was unfamiliar with.
Oh, I'm so happy to read your post. There are hundreds of his songs. You'd probably love all of them. Try to see him in person if he's singing near you. He's still the best.
Hi, ReadMeReadYou! Yes, it is true that the melody is from a classical piece. But, at least for me, execution is what matters the most, and it is Johnny who makes this song magical. You know, he had an touch for this, for magic and mystery.
Thank you for posting this. I'm on my fourth listen in a row. To your point about it being from Borodin, yes it is--the composition is called Polovtsian Dances. There's a beautiful version of it on here conducted by Seiji Ozawa; tried to send you a link but for some reason it wouldn't post. Thanks again.
I just watched Johnny sing this on his PBS anniversay special. SO VERY BEAUTIFUL. I have been a fan since I as 8 I am 60 now. I once stole the M out of MATHIS from the sign of attractions at the Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington D.C. in the early 60's. It was segregated then and I lived down the street and this was the closest I could get to him. I kept that glittered M for decades.
It's a nice rendition, but not the equal of Tony Bennett's 1955 chart-topper.

Thanks for your reply to my comment, RMRY.
Johnny's my favorite male singer.
No one can deliver a heart-felt ballad
better than he can—not Frank, not, Dino,
not Tony, love and admire them all though I do.
While I work at the computer, Ill sometimes
play Johnny singing Stranger In Paradise over and
over and over again, for the better part of an hour.
Regards, thanks, and best wishes.
