  • It's a nice rendition, but not the equal of Tony Bennett's 1955 chart-topper.

  • Voice never bettered, Moon River have never heard a better version.

  • Johnny + strings = goosebumps every time. Never get tired of listening to this.

  • What a very beautiful voice Johnny Mathis has. I've been listening to him for about fifty-odd years ... and his recordings still make the hair on the back of my head stand up. Johnny ... you are wonderful! Wonderful!

  • @khayla5254 You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Now, make a CD, so I can buy it and enjoy your music.

  • Johnny seems to be the only one who sings the opening verse, which I think adds a lot to the song. I've loved this arrangement since I first heard it in 1963 or '64.

  • "The fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much."

  • Im amazed his version maybe better than the original, truly amazing

  • Beautiful slides that you put with it really helped to feel each word. Johnny as usual is extraordinary with the way his voice is so expressive. Thank you for posting this.

  • You are right about that. This music comes originally from Borodin's opera "Prince Igor". Many artists and arrangers recorded it beautifully, and Johnny Mathis was only of them. Thanks for posting!!

  • I really love music as beautiful as this. Absolutely lovely!

Thank you my dear friend David for sharing! :-)

  • voice of an angel.

  • Mathis could sing a shoping list and make it a beautiful song.

  • Johnny sings with the voice of an Angel a true legend. King of Romance.

  • Angela, your granddaugher is a very beautiful girl! Great video and very moving and romantic song - but then Johnny Mathi is the King of Romance, isn't he? Thank you for sharing your gift and keeping love and memories alive in so many!

  • I know how you feel. All of his music is "Heavenly." : )

  • I was listening to this a few days ago and this Johnny perfomed this song brilliant this song came from one of my favorite Mathis album it simply Heavenly

  • How wonderful that you got to see him in person and that you were able to grow up listening to Johnny, just as my children did. He's really special. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting.

  • From his "Heavenly" album, my first of his and I still have it! 1959 I believe. I know every song on the album and have attempted to sing along for 50 years with attempt being the operative word. Seen him in concert 8 times and hope to at least one more time.

  • Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It's something how we all know all of his songs and can sing along. I hope to see him again too but I don't think he will be in my are this year and I'm disappointed.

  • Have had the opportunity to see him twice. I grew up with Mom playing his LP's all the time, and he has always been a favorite. Got to see his 25th Year Concert and then again with Henry Mancini.

  • I couldn't agree with you more. I love when he sings it in concert. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

    Angela

  • Thanks for your reply to my comment, RMRY.

    Johnny's my favorite male singer.

No one can deliver a heart-felt ballad

better than he can—not Frank, not, Dino,

not Tony, love and admire them all though I do.

While I work at the computer, Ill sometimes

play Johnny singing Stranger In Paradise over and

over and over again, for the better part of an hour.

    Regards, thanks, and best wishes.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I grew up on Johnny's Greatest Hits album, back when music was recorded on vinyl and long-playing albums went for three bucks. I've continued listening to the Greatest Hits with undiminished pleasure. This video and others of yours have introduced me to wonderful recordings of his I was unfamiliar with.

  • Oh, I'm so happy to read your post. There are hundreds of his songs. You'd probably love all of them. Try to see him in person if he's singing near you. He's still the best.

  • I grew up listening to Johnny, my mom is a big fan, brings back great memories :-D He's great !!

  • I'm so glad you enjoyed him as a child and now you can as an adult. Thank you for stopping by and for commenting. He's the best of the best. : )

  • Oh, thanks for coming by and commenting. Happy you enjoyed it.

  • He is magic period. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Hi, ReadMeReadYou! Yes, it is true that the melody is from a classical piece. But, at least for me, execution is what matters the most, and it is Johnny who makes this song magical. You know, he had an touch for this, for magic and mystery.

  • Thank you for posting this. I'm on my fourth listen in a row. To your point about it being from Borodin, yes it is--the composition is called Polovtsian Dances. There's a beautiful version of it on here conducted by Seiji Ozawa; tried to send you a link but for some reason it wouldn't post. Thanks again.

  • I'm so glad you're enjoying the song. Johnny's voice is so beautiful. And, thank you for the information. I will check it out

  • I just watched Johnny sing this on his PBS anniversay special. SO VERY BEAUTIFUL. I have been a fan since I as 8 I am 60 now. I once stole the M out of MATHIS from the sign of attractions at the Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington D.C. in the early 60's. It was segregated then and I lived down the street and this was the closest I could get to him. I kept that glittered M for decades.

  • Beautiful video. Beautiful song. I was young ago for a moment. Thanks.

  • Thank you for a beautiful thing.

  • Thank you for stopping by and I'm so happy you enjoyed the song.

  • like i said you do real great with your videos cant get no better

  • absolutely stunning!!

  • Thank you so much. Great song.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. That's one of my favorite songs from his "Heavenly" album

  • You're welcome. It's one of my favorites too.
