RIP Willie. Love Al Green and without you, we wouldn't know him. Love this song, checkout the King Curtis version, he plays one of the most haunting and beautiful sax melodies I've ever heard.

I THOUGHT WILLIE PLAYED THE GUITAR.

The trumpet was his main axe; maybe keys and some other horns but I can find nothing written about him playing guitar. I sent a short email to his studio, maybe they'll let me know who it was. Like I said, I'm just curious, no biggie. If they respond I'll pass it along. Maybe this tmerl guy knows (see above post).

The guitar player is Teenie Hodges, one of the great underrated session men of the memphis scene. He plays on all of Al Green's wonderful late 60s/70s records on Hi Records (co-wrote the classic 'love and happiness' among many others) he is THE MAN
