The more I sing & try connecting to the upper range,I realize something."Thinking" about singing while singing (about high notes coming up,passing the passaggio, etc) makes it harder to sing well! Not thinking or worrying about anything concerning singing actually helps, which is really quite interesting. This may be why, when Ive asked great singers in the past how they do certain things, their answer is usually "I dont know"
i have been looking for ages for something to improve my vocals because i love evanescence and i love singing their songs but my voice doesnt go quiiiiite high enough for some of there songs. any tips???

Hi! PLEASE. PLEASE. Please... respond to this!!!!! I really need help with BELTING high, long notes. I'm 16 years old, and I've taken singing lessons... but my teacher never taught me how to 'belt notes.' -.- Whenever I try, my voice cracks. I'm starting to sing higher notes... but I can't sing CRAZY like Adele... or Lea Michele. Maybe give me a few tips on how to sing from the stomach? Or the diaphram??.. without straining you voice, or cracking. ALSO, making sure it doesn't come out nasily. :)
@chontelle20 you are welcome to send me a sample of your singing for an evaluation to: kentamplinvocalacademy(dot)com/2012/01/upload-your-vocal-sample
@jessiejfan5601 I think of myself more of a soul singer than just a belting rock singer.. check out some of my stuff...you may like it... I have a youtube video on soul singing
Hey Ken.I know your a busy guy,but I was wondering if you could post up a quik list list of good equipment to record myself ?(I.E. mics, and whatever else thats needed to make a good quality recoding) Ive been doing your program for about 5 months now and want to be able to record myself so I can see how Im progressing. Thanks
The main and only technique that can have you singing is maintaining the basic shape,The more you concentrate on the basic shape not collapsing you will soon discover the adjustment faster .
@kentamplin hi i'm wondering if you think any person can learn how to sing. my voice its good the think is i just do not know how to control it. people say i sing good when i sing i hear my voice fine but when i record it it sound terrible haha how embarrassing !

Would it be the method he uses to sing that gives him a classical voice, or country, or rock.. jazzy.. blue.. w.e Or is he born with a certain type of voice? And if you are born with certain type of voice... does that means that you won't sound as good even if you learn it? Can Sarah Brightman sings like Simple Plan? Or Green Day sings like Il Divo?

Did you seriously just go up and grab an F#5 like it was nothing? lol. Interest peaked. I will be considering online lessons with you soon... haha
Hi ken! i recently bought your video cd and audio cd. i am confuse about the lesson. my question is should the your stomach expand or compressed when singing? pls.. help that what is happening when i try to sing.

Wow! I totally have a better understanding of what you mean with controlling the diaphragm but I still have to say that you have more talent than most guys because you're still able to hit those VERY high notes. Keep it rockin' n soulin', Ken! YEAH!
Hi Ken, I am a grandmother, sang in choirs when young, sang along with CDs, and have noticed some odd things with my singing voice. Glad to see you sharing, and hope my comments help, because I think CDs like Celine Dion's and Sarah Brightman's, should come with a warning label, "Don't Try This At Home; at least not without a vocal coach!" Best wishes~
@kentamplin , do you just do pop/rock, because i cant sing to save my life and i would love to learn how to sing pop as is bruno mars, rihanna and soul, adele, luther vandross etc.
please help me..i understand my my voice...i have an r&b voice but my voice is somewhat high....i do runs that sounds goood but i feel like im using just my throat and not singing,,,,can i email you my sample.....whats your email,,,thank you
i'd like to sing like bruno mars because i love how he can use his head voice so easily and it sounds so smooth. i try to sing like that and i cant get my head voice to smoothly flow like he does. Any tips?
Whenever I'm singing for a long time by myself, I think I must forget to breathe in the middle because my voice goes flat about halfway through. There are a couple singing videos on my profile if that would help...
I have a question. I would like to be able to sing good, but currently I cannot sing to save my life. Do you think some people are just not meant to sing, or do you think I can learn how to sing?
I like how you are able to climb through those octaves but can you stall or interrupt? like if I was to take that soundbyte and cut out a few spots, I don't want to sing it all in one note or even complete the scale... throughout the song I want to modulate and change tone along with octaves, say softer in some areas and stronger in others, like Tate and many others do when they perform, I tend to lose pitch and get lost, whats a good exercise to build on?
How can I locate my Diaphram. I am 20 and starting a little late in the game.I don't think im breathing correctly and i run out of breath when im trying to sing better. I think im singing through my nose and throat and not my diaphram how can i correct this?
I just saw this video for the first time and wow you have an amazing voice. I'm a 20 yr old girl i've just started to learn how to sing. been learning through others youtube videos and advice and im confused. i dont know how to locate my diaphram or the right breathing techniques. I wanna become a rockstar.lol so I'm also pickin up guitar and all that. im pretty bad at all of it though but i am trying. practice makes perfect. also i can't hold notes and they are very unstable.
i think i have an ok voice, but im a little tone deaf. i can sing when im listening to a song, but when i sing playing my guitar i sound awful. any advice?
i notice alot of people looking for training already sing and arent too bad to the untrained ear. im a drummer that always wanted to have a voice but i honestly cant sing to save my life. im deep and kinda mono toned.. any advice for someone who has 0 experience?
hey can u make a how to sing like justin bieber?! I can only sing high and not low and I've been trying to find a how to sing something like justin bieber but I can't find any tips or tricks with the voice to do it!
Ken man i need help i have a deep voice like the song elvira by the oakridge boys not really my type of music im more into 80's but i can sing the base to that song. And i want the range i had when i was lik 8 back can your lessons give it back? Because my voice isnt all that high but its not rediculously low. By the way im 14. If that helps an at all haha.
@kentamplin Ken can you go to my guitar lesson and here how deep my voice is you can here it i was really tired but thats so u can get what i sound like i might make a singing video but all of youtube will see it and im kinda scared to do that. But yeah.
Ken i need you! please i love to sing and i think im an ok singer, music is all i do and i want to have my voice the best it can be. i also wanted to know if you can help me find out my vocal range? and help me expand it. i love private lessons, so tell me what you think man.
KEN i need your help, music is my life!! i was on music since my grandpa Al passed away, my grandpa passed away when i was 14, and he helped me start to sing at the age of 8, he always helped me he improved me, but when i lost him, i lost my voice, i lost everything, my family is tearing apart. got out of a recent 2 year relationship, and im at an all time low, but theres a canadas got talent thing coming up, and i need advice, i have a video on ,my page of me singing. please help me improve1/2
@kentamplin i sent you the voice sample.. im scared of showing my voice though.. it has been a very long time... i also have covered 1 song on my youtube page. maybe you can check that out and show me whats wrong.. i just need help on this.
Hi Ken! I'm a singer and never had any voice lessons! How do you belt high notes like beyonce or whitney houston (for example: a high F in your chest voice) without cracking??? What excersises can i do to help achieve that? And how do I achieve vocal technique???
Also, if you have the time, go to my channel and watch my videos and if you have any tips for me please feel free to tell me :)
@ErickaGuitron I went to your channel, if you want to send me your e-mail address I can give you a vocal evaluation. I don't like to do it in public for privacy reasons.
I need some help. My voice is sounds good and all, but I can tell I need help. I really want your help cause you are very good at singing. Can you help me?
Hi, I'm 15 and I love to sing and I can tell that somewhere in my notes I'm missing something important. My mom tells me that I have the potential, but I need guidance on how to use my voice properly. When I record myself singing I can definitely hear the potential but it suddenly gets mixed in with a few off keys. Can you help me?
hi i'm 18 years old and i've been practicing and trying to learn to sing heavy metal vocals mainly operatic style vocals my singing voice is so weird if i sing just normal i have a low voice and it's too low but if i sing an octave higher it sounds like a teenager it doesn't sound like a man...maybe my vocal chords just aren't fully developed yet?
hi i have a very low voice.. when i sing and open it up i can get to about mid range then start to fade out and it gets to a push and eventuray cracks.. id like to be able to expand that range and hit high notes but with a little bit of rasp to it how do i go about doing such a thing
hi im 14 and love to sing but i used to sound ok but now i sound tone deaf and i think its from smoking am i right? and i have no clue where to start can you help me?
Hii i used to have a very good range but now im visiting my grandparents for a year and they dont like singing so they dont let me practice and now i feel like im losing all the control and range that ive worked hard to have . Do you have any advice to help me get it back ? I will send you a video of my singing but it wont be great quality because my camera is bad .....
I lift heavy weights 3 times a week. I like to stay muscular and in shape. I've heard that lifting weights is bad for your vocal chords/singing because of all the tension in the neck muscles. I've read a few information about the topic and it doesn't seem like there are any good news about it. Is this a myth? Is it something I should lose sleep over or is it not a big deal? Can the two co-exist with eachother? I mean, I guess I've never seen any singers who lift a lot of weights.
hey! i love to sing! and do it EVERYDAY, however.. when i sing i feel like im pushing and squeezing, and i just dont feel like im doing it right, I LOVE to perform! its all i want to do, but i just feel like there is SO much more to my voice then i am using, i have never had a voice lesson, and know NOTHING about proper vocal technic..will your program teach me to have a wonderful voice like yours! please reply.
I really wish I had enough money to take lessons with you. I am classically trained but need some pointers on how to adapt to more of a rock tone. I just need to figure out some exercises... I feel like it can be hard for my female voice to get rid of some of the vibrato and get into more of a raw-ness. Anyways.... I wish I wasn't still a student :(
Question: After years, I've finally got a decent mix and head voice going on, and the transition is fairly smooth, once the old vocal cords are really warm, but I've really been trying to work on singing smoother and softer like Steve Perry in "Open Arms". The problem is that I can do it well in the lower octaves, and decent in the upper octaves (like a falsetto thing), but there is absolutely nothing in the middle. Is it possible w/o too much compression?
@MindPetrol yes you can over compress your voice but usually that happens in the higher registers of your range. It's the mid section you are describing that is the most important part of the voice. YOu must work the upper mid chest register of your voice or risk losing both your head/falsetto and your lower mids over time.
I just wanna say that I think you have an amazing voice and you are really inspiring to me as a young singer in a rock band.
It would be really great if you could check out the videos of me singing with my band and offer any pointers cause I have very little singing knowledge.
Thank you very much any help would be really appreciated.
We are epilogue2011 on youtube and our most recent performance put up is the Disturbia/Empires.
Very cool. I'm a first time viewer of YouTube. I think I'd like to take vocal lessons with you, I'm going to look up your website. Thank you for taking the time to create this business for yourself. Everybody can sing, and everybody wants to be a singer. Great line of work.
i wanna learn to sing, i think i can sing but i can't do it very loud and for very long, i need practice but i should know how to practice the right way
@snugbne You have a nice tone to your voice. Decent pitch (but it could use a little help). You also are singing quite a bit from the nose. My suggestion is, get better diphragmatic support first. This will help with pitch power and stamina. Second, learn about open throat technique, this will help you with the nasal issues. This would be a good place to start. I have a dvd series at the Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy. com that will help you with this.
@DW99able I just check out your Marley cover. I would recommend starting to focus on your pitch. I think you have a great energetic personality. This is where I would start. The I would learn about good breathing support. Start there...
@DW99able again, not sure what your definition of good. Mine is Areath Franklin (popele today thing of voices like Adele who is a lot like a white version of aretha franklin). Aedel has been singing for many years studying aretha to sound like that. She has also take vocal lessons to help you imrove and susatin her voice. Thse are the places I would start. Get familiar with singers you like, sing their songs, get some training and develop your own style.
hi, my names sara, Im 14 years old and ive been singing since i can remember. would it be too much trouble to send you a video of my singing and you could give me your imput? thank you so much!
Sorry to Judge like that. I was just saying in a stupid way that you are a very hyper person and you are very hard to follow. And no I don't do drugs :)
@montrealdrum it's all good...no worries...I had a few people think I was gay because I try to be a nice guy and I accidentally smacked my lips on my intro singing video. I'm actually practically a homophoebe (the opposite of a homo :-) But people need to make comments... The internet reminds me of driving. People cut in front of other people off all the time without thinking twice but they would never do that in a grocery store. I guess they feel safe hiding behind the internet or their car :-)
Hey I'm Robbie, I'm 18, and I think I need to find my singing range. Whenever I'm trying to sing to a song I can't hit any notes at all and I was just wondering what can I do to help this?
Hi Ken My Name Is Majestic Im 16. Im not a bad singer my voice is okay i just have an airy voice is that normal or is that something i need to fix? I know i have what it takes to be a great singer my mom is an amazing one. I guess i just get scared and i dont push is there anything you think will help? thanks
@MajesticSumter airy voices have a hard tie growing. Because of the amount of air that passes across the chord, it tends to dry out the chord much faster than normal and inhibits regenergation and putting elasticity back into the chord. I would teach you a certain type of compression that would give you both a brassy bright sound and you can still use you airy sound as desired...
Wow, Great voice, I want to sing so bad I get worked up and start crying... Im a 21 year old female, my fiance can sing, and sometimes it actually causes problems between us.. not real bad but still. I couldnt carry a tone if it was back pack. Do you think ill be able to teach my self to sing?
Hey ken, Im a 16 year old singer with a voice similar to Eddie Vedder and David Lee Roth (all my friends say i sound like vedder) but i can hit high notes like Milijenko Matijevic or steelheart if you know the group or his singing but my voice after a few high notes like that starts to dry out or i just cant do anymore without my voice cracking or anything. Is there anything you recommend that could help my voice do that.

@codelyokoist the first question back is, how do you sing? If you want to send me a samepl of your singing, you cansend it to ktvainfo@gmail.com
kentamplin 6 months ago
I like how you are able to climb through those octaves but can you stall or interrupt? like if I was to take that soundbyte and cut out a few spots, I don't want to sing it all in one note or even complete the scale... throughout the song I want to modulate and change tone along with octaves, say softer in some areas and stronger in others, like Tate and many others do when they perform, I tend to lose pitch and get lost, whats a good exercise to build on?

I just saw this video for the first time and wow you have an amazing voice. I'm a 20 yr old girl i've just started to learn how to sing. been learning through others youtube videos and advice and im confused. i dont know how to locate my diaphram or the right breathing techniques. @JBJenk00 it starts below your sternum (under your chest cavity) and goes all the way down to your groin... this would be total diaphragmatic support

77jchc 7 months ago
@77jchc nope, not whatsoever. Happily married for 27 years.
I think that people mistake being nice for being gay these days.
I never before realised how prejudiced the gay community must feel from haters here on the internet.
For me I can shrug it off because those that know me, know me as more of a man's man.
But I have more compassion on black people and gays now from the judgers.... :-)

mikaylaayub 8 months ago
I lift heavy weights 3 times a week. I like to stay muscular and in shape. I've heard that lifting weights is bad for your vocal chords/singing because of all the tension in the neck muscles. I've read a few information about the topic and it doesn't seem like there are any good news about it. Is this a myth? Is it something I should lose sleep over or is it not a big deal? Can the two co-exist with eachother? I mean, I guess I've never seen any singers who lift a lot of weights.

MindPetrol 9 months ago
@MindPetrol yes you can over compress your voice but usually that happens in the higher registers of your range. It's the mid section you are describing that is the most important part of the voice. YOu must work the upper mid chest register of your voice or risk losing both your head/falsetto and your lower mids over time.

Hey :D
I just wanna say that I think you have an amazing voice and you are really inspiring to me as a young singer in a rock band.

snugbne 9 months ago
@snugbne send me something to listen to
kentamplin 9 months ago
@snugbne You have a nice tone to your voice. Decent pitch (but it could use a little help). You also are singing quite a bit from the nose. My suggestion is, get better diphragmatic support first. This will help with pitch power and stamina. Second, learn about open throat technique, this will help you with the nasal issues. This would be a good place to start. I have a dvd series at the Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy. com that will help you with this.
kentamplin 9 months ago
@kentamplin Thank you! =) Do you suggest plugging my nose well i sing? lol
snugbne 9 months ago
@snugbne no, you need some air form the nose, just not a focused pressure like you have now.
kentamplin 9 months ago
@kentamplin oh ok i see!
snugbne 9 months ago
@DW99able I just check out your Marley cover. I would recommend starting to focus on your pitch. I think you have a great energetic personality. This is where I would start. The I would learn about good breathing support. Start there...
kentamplin 9 months ago
@DW99able do you practice singng his songs? send me a sample of you singing
kentamplin 9 months ago
@DW99able again, not sure what your definition of good. Mine is Areath Franklin (popele today thing of voices like Adele who is a lot like a white version of aretha franklin). Aedel has been singing for many years studying aretha to sound like that. She has also take vocal lessons to help you imrove and susatin her voice. Thse are the places I would start. Get familiar with singers you like, sing their songs, get some training and develop your own style.
kentamplin 9 months ago
@DW99able that depends on your definition of good and that depends on your defeinition of aweful

Hi Ken My Name Is Majestic Im 16. Im not a bad singer my voice is okay i just have an airy voice is that normal or is that something i need to fix? I know i have what it takes to be a great singer my mom is an amazing one. I guess i just get scared and i dont push is there anything you think will help? thanks
MajesticSumter 9 months ago
@MajesticSumter airy voices have a hard tie growing. Because of the amount of air that passes across the chord, it tends to dry out the chord much faster than normal and inhibits regenergation and putting elasticity back into the chord. I would teach you a certain type of compression that would give you both a brassy bright sound and you can still use you airy sound as desired...
kentamplin 9 months ago
@MajesticSumter you should try out for the next star or american idol next year
