14+ years ago at a county fair concert I was expecting my youngest at any time (bigger than a house) and they told us if we ran we could probably catch him for an autograph...he heard that and turned and saw my face and looked down to huge baby bump and he smiled and came to me :) Wonderful artist, wonderful guy :)
He has always been a wonderful singer and song writer. I know he was ill for a few years but he sounds great. I know sometimes staying close to home offers a better lofe. Maybe he is doing that?

Folks, there must be someone out there in the legions of the is man's fans that can post "She is". I know it is a song that never went anywhere, but it is just great. I just don't understand why Hal is not more popular than he is.
Hal Ketchum is another great artist in that NNCM (NOT Nashville country music) along with such greats as Dwight Yoakum, Kelly Willis, Steve Earl and John Prine. I love Toby Keith but most of Trashville's music is just a rehash of what was popular thirty years ago or just a basic Hee-Haw gag.

I saw Hal a week ago in Ann Arbor, MI. What a fabulous show. The man has a voice beyond most of what we hear today. He's of the same caliber as Ronnie Dunn. Totally enjoyed his acoustic show. Will definitely see him again.

love this song means a lot to me was one of the songs my dad used to sing to me when I was little he passed away recently and its great to be able to listen to songs he sang thanks.

met Hal in lake worth florida in 07, Great small venue show..he hung out afterwards and greeted each fan as if each one was a specail guest..great show and great person who doesn't forget where he came from to get where he has been

Folks, there must be someone out there in the legions of the is man's fans that can post "She is". I know it is a song that never went anywhere, but it is just great. I just don't understand why Hal is not more popular than he is.

Hal Ketchum is another great artist in that NNCM (NOT Nashville country music) along with such greats as Dwight Yoakum, Kelly Willis, Steve Earl and John Prine. I love Toby Keith but most of Trashville's music is just a rehash of what was popular thirty years ago or just a basic Hee-Haw gag.
I say that as someone born and bred in the great state of Tennessee.

I saw Hal a week ago in Ann Arbor, MI. What a fabulous show. The man has a voice beyond most of what we hear today. He's of the same caliber as Ronnie Dunn. Totally enjoyed his acoustic show. Will definitely see him again.

This guy has such an amazing voice that I also concur with the others on this one....how was he passed by? I heard him while growing up and still think this man has got what it takes. If he is touring can ANYONE tell me where the hell he is now?

I agree, tylermeatball! He is such a fabulous singer. I saw him perform at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, Texas, about 5 years ago. The room was only about half full but he sounded great live. I wish he would tour again.

This is really a great song! I'm grown quite found of the Irish folksinger Mick Hanly who wrote and originally performed the song. But the Hal Ketchum version got a great feel... and this acoustic performase is wonderfull :)

From what I understand he wrote it for Hal Ketchum. He was the 1st to record it. Thus, regardless of who wrote it, Hal's is not a cover, it's the original!

He did not write it for Hal Ketchum. Mick Hanly is a singer songwriter. I doubt he would write it for Hal. Now dont get me wrong, I think Hal does a very good version of it but that is all it is. Who cares either way? Its a great song.

Then please inform me what album Mick released it on before Hal recorded it? So what if he is a singer-songwriter? Dosen't mean he writes all his songs just for him. Don Williams is also a singer-songwriter, yet he wrote "Lay down beside me" for Kenny Rogers.

He recorded it in the late 80's. The name of the album is 'All I Remember'. Im not arguing with anyone here. Im just pointing out facts. Hal Ketchum does a very good cover, but that is all it is. Mick Hanly wrote and recorded this piece of music. And a seriously brilliant piece it is too. So now the record is straight. Thanks.

Im not saying its not a good version. I love it actually. Im just saying that it is a cover. Thats all. Are you Hal? Check out Mary Black's version. Its on youtube. Mick Hanly is the guy standing beside her. All versions of this beautiful song are good. Anyway. Enjoy! Im Irish, I have to kind of stick up for my fellow passport holders! :) Most of them anyway.

That's not Mick Hanley playing guitar on the Mary Black video - it's Declan Sinnott (from Wexford), who started his musical career with Horslips. Another piece of trivia (for any Wexford or Limerick people reading this): Mick Hanley played hurling for Limerick CBS in the All Ireland senior colleges final in the late 1960's against St Peters College Wexford. St Peters won after a replay, and Mick was directly opposed on the field by John Quigley.
