  • Hal, if you're reading this, please please put out an acoustic album of your old hits. You sound amazing!

  • This guy related to Ash Ketchum?

  • Okay so I met this amazing man, smoked a cigarette with him and talked to him, and I was like, you know, you look a lot like billy bob thorton, and he said i get that a lot. And then later on that day the guy he was with came up to me (we have this mutual friend) and said man, i can't believe you just said that. that was hal ketchum. And I was SOOOO EMBARASSED. Mr. Ketchum, if you remember that happening, we were outside of nashville near the cumberland river, i am so sorry and i really respect.

  • Brings back sweet memories:)

  • I have never liked country music but I´ve always loved this song.

  • I positively adore this version, and this man's talent. This song does so much for me. I can't wait to buy his new album. :)

  • I'm a fan for life! Hal has an amazing talent and he is unique....no one with the same sound. Wishing him well and would like to hear more from him!

  • @irishsetterarchie This song was written by a great Limerick City songwriter in Ireland by the name of Mick Hanly. He's also on youtube. Glad you like the song.

  • @ambyyy1 Thank you friend for the information! I like the song and I like the Irish and I really like Hal!! I will look Mick Hanly up here on YouTube!! Have a great week end!

  • anyone think he looks like sam merlot from the show true blood

  • 14+ years ago at a county fair concert I was expecting my youngest at any time (bigger than a house) and they told us if we ran we could probably catch him for an autograph...he heard that and turned and saw my face and looked down to huge baby bump and he smiled and came to me :) Wonderful artist, wonderful guy :)

  • Check this version form Irish TV out:: watch?v=FQaFyCewOOo

  • He has always been a wonderful singer and song writer. I know he was ill for a few years but he sounds great. I know sometimes staying close to home offers a better lofe. Maybe he is doing that?

    Sno Rogers

  • Hal if you watch these videos we miss you, you still sound just as great please make another album. your music always had a hunting sound that made me stop and listen.

your fan from the start Louie..................

  • hal is the terror of tiny town

  • loven it:)

  • this is a timeless country star, saw him at Merlefest in the 90's, he was the festival that year...

  • What is there to dislike? Why 13 dislikes?

  • Good god, he is pretty.

  • wow, amazing live.....seriously. you can just tell the guitar work is amazing.....Keep it comin' hal!

  • he's on my list now.

  • This man's voice is pure and natural. Never a bad note...

  • Hal Ketchum amd John Anderson are the two most under-rated country performers around .....some of today's big names only WISH they sounded as good as these two and let's not 4get Steve Earle ...he never got the recognizition he deserved either

  • So many memories. This guy has talent so far beyond that of the average country singer / entertainer.

  • Why the hell ithis guy not the father of country music... Carrie Underwood, et al, are no talent, manufactured tripe. We need more Hal Ketchum... real talent.

  • Damn he's good. Why isn't he on these country award shows. Maybe their afraid he'd make 'em look bad. MSgt Bill

  • Dear god, he is pretty/

    Grandma mary

  • so talented,so much passion,so sexy

  • EPIC...this coulda turned out sssooo bad....but this man killed it...

  • great song.

  • Great song Mike Hanley, well done.

  • Great performance. Anyone know why Hal is strumming up the fret - is it for sound effect ??

  • he is raising the octave to match his vocals.. playing and singing in your comfort zone makes better performance!

  • I miss country music from the good ol' days - I miss Hal!

  • You got it...

  • saw him last night he is brilliant!! sat right beside us when we were out smoking he is cool!!

  • @nirvanaqueenforever Since when is Smoking cool? It's Gross!

  • @gijoeman22 If you read the post properly I said he is cool, learn to read moron!

  • museken

    because the dixie chicks SUCK!!!!

he is too good to open for them

  • the BEST version ....absolutely

  • Why is this guy without a question not opening for a Dixie chick...or a Kenny Chesney...Where is John Anderson and the Seminole wind really gone. Country has lost it's roots..Shame... Modern country has become the rock and roll played in the 80'(Don't get me wrong the 80's ruled) But country is country. It's ..out of a west Texas town of El Paso there was a maiden as pure as could be...Don't know it ,FIND IT! That's country. The end...

  • Kudos....My thoughts exactly!!

  • @museken Lol, yes, 'ol Marty was something else, huh? But I think music will always evolve, no matter what "brand" it is, & there are some fantastic "new" country singers today. The best thing 'tho, is that there will always be room for them all... no matter how many, or how diverse. I do know where you're coming from, 'tho.

  • @museken - The Dixie Chicks and Kenny Chesney should be opening for Hal! There's not a smoother voice in counrty music, or any other genre. When Waylon was asked who he listened to besides his fellow Highwaymen, he said HAL KETCHUM!

  • @museken Why is he not headlining?

  • @museken I saw someone else (can't remember who right now!) open for him in Daytona Beach, FL about 16 yrs ago...why would he want to open for someone else...he is just fine on his own coattails!!!!

  • one of a kind, love this song simply beautiful as the man singing it,ty

  • I love this man!!!!! Has he got a set of vocal chords or not, he is as iI understand suffering from MS affecting his fingers as well I am sure as his life style. Pray for him he is among the best waiting for him to be inducted already is in Nashville. Go Hal Met you, love you my love to you, your wife and family Go SAxon Pib Pammie !!!!

  • Song Was written By Mick Hanly please visit webite for verification.

  • I know the song was written by Mick Hanly, I meant the original members of the Dixie Chicks not the original song. I prefer their version, even though I am a huge Hal fan.

  • I like the (original) Dixie Chicks' version of this better, but I love Hal.

  • What I think Hal recorded this first?

  • I don't know when Hal recorded his version.

The Dixie Chicks recorded it on their album in the early 90's. Around '92 I think. This was the pre-Natalie Chicks. I believe Robin Lynn Macy had already left the group, and Laura Lynch was singing lead. The album was called "Little Ole Cowgirl."

  • This song was written and recorded by an Irish man called Mick Hanly, Mary Black then recorded it in the 80's and it became a hit in Ireland then the US, check out Mary Black singin it

  • I did not know that Hanly wrote the song... I'm checking Mary Black as I type Thanks.. I love Hal but the strength of a true musician is what he writes and preforms...He deserves a lot more.....Somebody in the entertainment world missed him...

  • So good!

  • great singer song writer, anybody that plays @ Bob Wills day in Turkey, TX and stays @ the Turkey Hotel is ok in my books!

  • really ENORMHOGGORM ? Always thought it was a Mick Hanley (from Ireland) song. Personally I think Mick has a more darker soulful version, but all hail Hal Ketchum (:

  • You are correct, of course, pan42, this is Mick Hanleys tune. Hal Ketchum is only "covering it..".Hellbillies from Norway stole this melody, put on some lyrics about an old huntinglodge, and it became their biggest hit ever. Says something about this melodys potensial, doesn't it?

  • This man is hotter than he was 15 years ago, the last time I I even thought about him or his music,,, sorry Hal.. love your beautiful voice,,,,,GOD bless youtube

  • This and old Norwegian song made by The Hellbillies. Hal has just changed the lyrics to english. But a very good version. The Norweagian original version rock even if you dont understand what they say.. Greetings from Bergen Norway

  • Nei, det er hellbillies som har tatt melodien fra Hal Ketchum.

(no, it's hellbillies that have taken the melody from Hal Ketchum)

    haha

  • Not so! Hal Ketchum`s melody and text. (Ei krasafaren steinbu har bare fått ny tekst)

  • This song was written by Jimmy McCarthy an Irish songwriter

  • I correct my stand, true.

  • klovn

  • HE IS WONDERFUL...!!

  • HE is the BEST!

  • my favorite country artist. very underrated!

  • Excellent!!!

  • This is the best 2 step ever...Hal...You The Man!!!

  • cool!

  • Beautiful!

  • there is no "you loing me" video?

  • wtf, i couldn't spell. i mean you lovin me

  • i had d joy of meeting the man who rote this song mick hanly, he also played guitar with my friends :) legend

  • Went to see The Master Mick Hanly On Stage At the drioch? Blanchardstown very intimate maybe 300 seats what a joy to see an (icon) on stage without the stereotypical creeps chanting incoherent shit.God Bless You Mick You have made a lot of Singers Rich with your superb writing and all of your fans hoping for more true classics instead of the shite we have to contend with today

  • no WAY. I love Mary Black, but her version is a damned Polka! Hal rocks this song.

  • By the way, your spelling of the word induced looks like it may have been alcohol-induced, or are you simply an uneducated dope?

  • OK D~**khead. you wamnnabe personal... As a matter of fact, having suffered a stroke, I take 13 tablets every day to stay alive and to try to avoid another stroke!! I am not perfect and I( do have one major fault). Before the stroke I was a professional musician for a number of years.Strangely enough I DO actually know something about music!! How about you???

  • What a load of horse shit!!

  • Not really , strange for yOU to be lockeD around mid AFTER NOON TODAY WHEN YOU POSTED THIS , TYPICAL ALCOHOL INDUSED COMMENT, YOU FOR GOT YOUR PILLS THIS MORNING OLD MATE (PERHAPS IT WAS THE CLOCK)

  • love this song means a lot to me was one of the songs my dad used to sing to me when I was little he passed away recently and its great to be able to listen to songs he sang thanks.

  • Did he write this song?

  • No, it was written by a man called Mick Hanley from Ireland.

  • No!! 'Twas written by an Irishman named Mick Hanley. Hal should have checked out the correct text from start to finish. Check Mary Black's version!!

  • Correct text? Hal's version is by far the BEST and for sure made Mick the most money. :)

  • met Hal in lake worth florida in 07, Great small venue show..he hung out afterwards and greeted each fan as if each one was a specail guest..great show and great person who doesn't forget where he came from to get where he has been

  • picked this song to listen to when the woman I love decided to end things, thank you

  • I also choose this GREAT song ... I sent it as a reminder that we both loose in this relationship .. after my man shut me out of his life ...for no fault of mine ...He gave up on himself ...Crying shame !

  • Folks, there must be someone out there in the legions of the is man's fans that can post "She is". I know it is a song that never went anywhere, but it is just great. I just don't understand why Hal is not more popular than he is.

  • Hal Ketchum is another great artist in that NNCM (NOT Nashville country music) along with such greats as Dwight Yoakum, Kelly Willis, Steve Earl and John Prine. I love Toby Keith but most of Trashville's music is just a rehash of what was popular thirty years ago or just a basic Hee-Haw gag.

I say that as someone born and bred in the great state of Tennessee.

  • I saw Hal a week ago in Ann Arbor, MI. What a fabulous show. The man has a voice beyond most of what we hear today. He's of the same caliber as Ronnie Dunn. Totally enjoyed his acoustic show. Will definitely see him again.

  • caught your comment yeah I've been a fan sinse the horizon award about a hundred years ago yep great talent..Hes here to stay

  • Small Town Saturday Night is another of his gems.

  • This is one of my favorite Hal Ketchum songs, I love it.

  • This guy has such an amazing voice that I also concur with the others on this one....how was he passed by? I heard him while growing up and still think this man has got what it takes. If he is touring can ANYONE tell me where the hell he is now?

  • Next week he will be in a small town called Silkeborg in Denmark in Europe. I'm going there!

  • Yep, he's on tour right now. Check his official website for tour dates. Unfortunately, he isn't coming to my state.

  • Incredible voice - I never understood why Hal Ketchum doesn't get the recognition he deserves. He's an amazing talent. Thanks for posting this.

  • I agree, tylermeatball! He is such a fabulous singer. I saw him perform at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, Texas, about 5 years ago. The room was only about half full but he sounded great live. I wish he would tour again.

  • no kjem dei til ei krasafaren steinbu

  • the man has a powerful voice

  • grate song

  • He recorded a GREAT song called "She Is". I think I am one of about ten people that has ever heard it. Somebody out there, please post it.

  • Great song, great music and lyrics! Love Hal, it's my song!

  • you should hear the orginal verision much better

  • Great, absolutely great.

Love this song and love Hal.

  • Great song! Heard it frist whith Marry Black, thougt that was fantastic.. but this.. it´s even greater!

  • It's irritating that the name, "Sprint" keeps blasting itself at you in the upper left hand corner.

  • You must have the attention span of a gnat!! Hell man watch the video and listen to the music...

  • coleyman1 good call you have the most underated music man in the business this guy is the real deal and that goober is worried about sprint (damn) I'll catch his act at the ramshead tavern this coming may 18 for the 4th year in a row. Carry on Hal God bless anyone who knows and loves talent like this man has

  • lovely version of this song, delivery, tone and pace - perfect!!

  • Perfect.

  • I love this song. The lyrics are just incredible.

  • This is really a great song! I'm grown quite found of the Irish folksinger Mick Hanly who wrote and originally performed the song. But the Hal Ketchum version got a great feel... and this acoustic performase is wonderfull :)

  • I love this version so much that I made my own mp3 so I can listen to it in my car. LOL

  • Class!!!!!!!

  • This guy is tough!!!! I love this song.

  • i just love this song:D

  • Very smooth, very sexy.

  • He messes up a line in the song. Around 1 min and 9 seconds. LOL But who the hell cares!? It's still damn sexy!!

  • He can still sing the hell out of this song! I see he is just as sexy as ever too. I love his acoustic voice. Why isn't he more popular??!!

  • Hellbillies er bedre:D eller hva?

  • Ikkje i nærheten engang...

  • Awesome song....excellent man !!!...and I'm not a country man at all...but this song is cool !!!*****....I wanna do a cover for sure !!!

  • This is a cover. Mick Hanly wrote this piece of music.

  • From what I understand he wrote it for Hal Ketchum. He was the 1st to record it. Thus, regardless of who wrote it, Hal's is not a cover, it's the original!

  • He did not write it for Hal Ketchum. Mick Hanly is a singer songwriter. I doubt he would write it for Hal. Now dont get me wrong, I think Hal does a very good version of it but that is all it is. Who cares either way? Its a great song.

  • Then please inform me what album Mick released it on before Hal recorded it? So what if he is a singer-songwriter? Dosen't mean he writes all his songs just for him. Don Williams is also a singer-songwriter, yet he wrote "Lay down beside me" for Kenny Rogers.

  • He recorded it in the late 80's. The name of the album is 'All I Remember'. Im not arguing with anyone here. Im just pointing out facts. Hal Ketchum does a very good cover, but that is all it is. Mick Hanly wrote and recorded this piece of music. And a seriously brilliant piece it is too. So now the record is straight. Thanks.

  • That's cool. All I needed to know. If this is a cover then ... so what ... I will check out the other version, but think this takes some beating!

  • Im not saying its not a good version. I love it actually. Im just saying that it is a cover. Thats all. Are you Hal? Check out Mary Black's version. Its on youtube. Mick Hanly is the guy standing beside her. All versions of this beautiful song are good. Anyway. Enjoy! Im Irish, I have to kind of stick up for my fellow passport holders! :) Most of them anyway.

  • That's not Mick Hanley playing guitar on the Mary Black video - it's Declan Sinnott (from Wexford), who started his musical career with Horslips. Another piece of trivia (for any Wexford or Limerick people reading this): Mick Hanley played hurling for Limerick CBS in the All Ireland senior colleges final in the late 1960's against St Peters College Wexford. St Peters won after a replay, and Mick was directly opposed on the field by John Quigley.

  • Grand.

  • anyone know what the tattoos are he has on his arms
