  • GREAT VIDEO FELLAS truly agree with you on this... TRULY AGREE! Let your setup TEACH YOU THE SKILLS NOT buying new shit!!!

  • i had the worst dj equipment in the world found it in the trash and i made feel like tech 1200

they were wooden table and i was doing party fun shit through a real dj i can any i mean any

shity epuipment i started from the bottom that how all dj should start now i got the good shit 3 sets of dj equip........

  • i started out on geminis xl 300...they are not good..but they get the job done like you said..all my friends have techs 1200,,,i started out on real records.....now im on serato....im only 15....im gooing to send you a my sound cloud acc...

    good advice.,,,,

  • You guys are great.

  • Who's Gill boogie and why do you hate him?

Im not a fake. I learned on the Tech 1200s and vinyl and didnt use a sync or a BPM counter to learn to match beats. I'm more of a DMC style DJ than a club/bar DJ. i used to play out back in 2001-2007, but now im just practicing my DMC tricks. I do use Serato SL now though.

  • dj frankis is 12

  • Great Video!

I'm from Mexico City now I live in the state of Colorado and I have been djing for many years. I started djing with 2 tape players at my friend’s parties and you are right use what you have :)

  • lmao at the end

  • Dope video...Great advice im new 2 diz myself so preciate da advice yo...one luv...god bless pana

  • great advice helps me im only 17

  • DO YOU STILL DJ..YOU HAVE A GREAT PERSONALITY! Your personality will take you far.

  • real djs use vinyl :) Been using vinyl since 15 now im 23

  • @pampers1919 real dj's get payd and use what ever they have on hand. the fact that you want to carry creates of vinyl doesn't make you a real dj, how ever i must say it does make you a strong dj.

  • good video helped me out. I dont need pioneers to learn and have fun!

  • hahahaha dammmm i started out the same way, one 1200 and a playstaion 1, big ups MU from Justone

  • a turn table and a dvd player into the mixer that came out the tv speaker. back in the days

  • aw crap I bought the american dj 1000w fog machine - whats wrong with it?

  • word life!

  • nice exit lol

  • yessiirrr... no need to upgrade if you got something working for you. allso if i mite add cheep equippment doesnot allways mean its shitty so with that being said its allways good to rock on the stuff you allready have

  • Dam that's a great advice

  • 1 ion TT, Casio keyboard, 3 channel mixer, and a laptop... :( lol HAVIN FUN LIKE SHIT!!!! :)

  • Sage advice to all the newbies. The best DJ's in the world started out with hardly nothing. That's how you learn, with what you got.

  • Damn that's some funny shit! LMAO!

    DJ RuDe

    Keep Spinnin'!!

  • yo, my first set up...

    1-bsr turntable

1-yorx stereo set from fingerhut that had a line out

1-radio shack mixer (the one that ran on batteries! not the one that got under your nails when you scratched wit the 1/4 inch plastic line/aux switch)

    1-fisher 500 watt receiver

2 15" pioneer cs-99a wood cab speakers that i still have to this day!

advice to the younger generation of djs! DON'T EVER WORRY ABOUT HATERZ THAT TRY TO BRING YOU DOWN. JUST DO YOU, AND LET YOUR WORK DO THE TALKING!

    bb

anyway, those little guys, they rocking out!!! much respect!!

I still have the mix I bought it in Radio Shack 17 years ago!! & guess what? still working, I don't know why I upgrade it. The good thing is I have something much better now, which I need to learn how to scratch now.

    Thanks for all da advice.

btw. same lov 4 U guys (even do, Im still a wannabe DJ) lol

  • dont normally comment but you guys r speaking the truth i remember back in days 11 years ago i was mixing with one tape player and one 5 disc cd changer no pitch fader. but i still took out the techies. what i always say the high tech stuff dont make u a better mixer it just makes u lazy damn new stuff practically mix its self. sometimes its good to go back to ur first system which i still have and check yourself. just remember real djs do it for the luv of the art not the business.

  • Great comment!!

1 tape player & 5 disc changer with no pitch.

    Classic.

    -Thanks for chiming in.

  • i hate them damn UNBOXING videos period. good video tho.

  • Yo, good vid fellas. Just have fun mixing, sometimes you learn faster that way. Damn, Caz. Talk about instant karma at the end, lol.

  • lmao!!

  • think im goin bring out my gemini xl-100 belt turntabels, and gemini 626 mixer at club tonite lol

  • nuff said i started off 4 years ago wit a used pair of cdn 90's lol rocked the rest of the life in those den got a pair of stantons from a retired dj which im rocking out now when those die then its th eupgrade!!! check out my vids and you guys will see u dont need pioneers to rock a set!! big ups! n gillboogie n luoiemix pushed u at the end LMAO

  • LOL!!!!

  • WOW, I feel the love!!! LOL. If I ever get back into the mobile biz i would rep M.U. to the fullest. You guys do it right. Great video. Sound advice. I agree you should only upgrade if your gear is damaged or you have outgrown it and are ready to upgrade. Nice to see ZOOMA in a video But he needs to bless us with another 10 minute mix.

P/S YOU ONLY HATIN ON ME CAUSE JERSEY DON'T HAVE A BASEBALL TEAM... LOL.

Hey I say its all true I have the same lights and speakers and amp and mixer and cd players that I bought 6 years ago when I started DJing and Im not buying or upgrading till they act up.

    Great topic man !!

ps I do have a back up plan set though.

    -Louie Mixx

  • A bunch of "hate" in this video. LOL

  • another point i thought i should bring up is take care of your equipment, buys cases, covers etc. anything to protect them, keep them clean and they will last you longer no matter what brand they made.

  • real nice advice guys, but i don't know if i can take it lol, i think i have the clinical condition of most djs - constant updateitis, its an affliction i tell you!

  • sound advise , great vid 5*, see u chaps in vegas :)

  • You should charge him double for that wire because he was being LAZY

Gotta keep your rig sounding good for your clients

  • I should charge him triple.

  • yaaa you should!!!! lol

  • good advice man, I totally agree with you I get bugged all the time by young dj's asking me what they should buy next or upgread to, I don't mind helping them out one bit tho but most of them are always worried an image and what some of the big guys will think of there cheap gear

  • I agree with everything except the product reviews. I've found out things important things about equipment that I've needed to replace by watching product reviews, and suggestions from other DJ's.

100% best quote "DON'T FIX IT or Replace it, if it's not BROKE!"

    ~DJ Bo~

  • hey!! my wife that know that your cable are important to your sound's what the (fU!!!K) is you nuts got dam man

  • Ha - Great Video

I wouldn't reccomend to anyone, buying a cheap sound system though, that is a big no-no. You need something reliable.

  • watch it now - its in HD - im 10 now - and saving for the macbookpro - SOMEONE POISNOED MY BRAIN - LoL thanks for the video and shoutouts djfrankis

  • LMFAO!!! I HATE DJS that have bad a** nice equipment but the sound quality JUST SUCKS!!! Dude BUY THE DAMN $10 CABLE, DONT BE LAZY!! You dont have just look good, YOU HAVE TO SOUND GOOD ALSO!! And to all the DJs that be spending more money on players and lights, MAKE SURE YOUR SOUND IS TOP NOTCH!! I would rather put my money into a top notch sound system FIRST and build from there!!! HOW CAN I JOIN MUSICA UNION??? LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO SAN ANTO!!!

  • big shout out to you guys to and i am not a dj like you guys i just play records afther another you know to mixing stuff

  • Great advice

  • Great Advice big Kudos...damn i still have the tables i bought 20 years ago...guess what they are...Gemini xl-400 II... hey Caz They Got to fix that :) what your step..LMAO

  • I have mix feelings about it, but i do remember radio shack gear, mixers amps , and police beacons but it worked, and everyone can make there own mind on what to use, nad how to make it work.... but in my mind is that DJ using radio shack gear is better then i am , and i use jbl, mackie, and etc.... so just make it work with what u have.....

  • i started out with casset players and home hi fi speakers lol

  • that is what I used at my first ever party and a pyramid mixer... for lighting it was a radio shack strobe light that I changed the gels.

  • Great vid and advise! We need to stop worrying about what to buy next and work on our skills first. You can have the best stuff and sound like a train wreck every blend. That's terrible.

Keep up the good work MU!

    Victor

  • I am on board with this video. My first system was my home stereo and a subwoofer box taken out of a truck with Christmas Lights. It took YEARS to get what I have. If you can use the basics then you'll know where you need to go from there. Excellent vid!

    - Terry

  • I'ma young DJ running some so-so equipment. But I MAKE IT WORK and I am loving it! Thank you for the video. Very nice!

  • It's nice that you guys take the time out to do these videos for the youngsters! Big up the MU crew!

  • you guys r right lol wat i do need is speakers help me with dat lol but thanks ill save up now thanks so mcuh i love mu we gotta huck up some time i lvoe u guys u no my dream MMMMMMMMMMMMMMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Man I started out on a radio shack mixer, 2 portable CD players, and home speakers. My lights were from the TOY store back in da day!

  • to lazy to buy a cable so he ran it it mono mode haha

  • yup.

  • Caz did u bust your ASSS at the end? That was the funniest part. BLOOPERS! LOL

  • sure did.

  • If you can do it on crap you will be great on the good stuff __ I started out without a mixer I just had a Y adapter Damn you had to be on beat thenLOL

    DJ Mikey Mike

  • I started off with a 3 cassette tape deck!! LOL.. slowly building up my equipment lil by lil..

I'm blessed to have quality gear now and MU is right .. if it aint broke dont change it, also if you suck - it's never the gear - IT'S YOU!!

so work with what you have, build your skill set, and like Caz said have FUN!!

  • Thanks for chiming in Esc.

    Great input.

  • Whats good MU crew!!!

  • Great advice......skill always wins out over gear.

    Plus, practicing is always FREE

  • It sure is.

  • Ahh kids.. they'll never learn. They love toys and sometimes forget about the craft.

Remember ellaskins's videos before he had every piece of kit known to man? He was mixing with 2 beat up technics and some no name mixer. He also had a cheap dual CD player with pitch and rocked it!

Some of the best DJs I've ever seen were in the bedroom with junk, but worked it!

  • Indeed.

  • lol check those wires lol. great vid

  • lol

  • Honest advice.Practice and Enjoy with what you got!..hope that messages reaches out to more than just the young dj's...it should go out to all DJ's.

    Jasper

  • Thanks for chiming in Jasp my homie.

  • Hah! watch your step!

    -DJ Friends & Sound

  • lols
