If this rifle is broken in, 300 rounds fired, he can turn the gas adjustment down and lower the recoil a bit.
They come set at 4 from the factory and after the rifle is broken in you should be shooting with the gas set at 2.
You want the brass to eject 8 to 15 feet, no more.
These rifles are awesome, good choice.
My Son is pretty excited about our ordered XCR.

He should lower his center of gravity and lean a little bit forward to better handle the recoil :)
