The best GPS direct geotagging solution for Nikon D-SLR cameras is the Foolography "Unleashed Dx000" or "Unleashed D90" bluetooth module combined with a wireless GPS Logger.
All the information for this product are on the B&H website (Type keyword 'Foolography')
For my Nikon D5100, I use the Unleashed Dx000 combined with a Holux M-241 GPS Logger. It's very good. No need of additional software. All the GPS information is combined in the camera. No cables!
3rd party GPS units are much cheaper and offer more choices. You should also mention GPS tagging after shoointg by using separate GPS logger and syncing the data using software.
Jared must be form USA . :)Google Earth has nothing to do with gps reception..
The surface of the earth is huge and satellites that image scan earth don't have time to scan everything. And also some countries don’t allow Google Earth to show detailed pictures of the ground. I mean… yeah America is grand but please don’t assume that the rest of the world is crap. Maybe you had a Tom Tom gps device that has maps of USA only. You only need the correct map and you can navigate the world.
1. Nikon D90 has no round 10-Pin. It has a rectangular 8-Pin GPS-socket (like D5000, D3100, D7000)
2. The GP-1 has no 10-pin socket for remote control on the geotagger unit. It's the recanguler 8-Pin
3. "Auto-Meter" problem can be solved by using 3rd party units with better functions (Dawntech Pro Logger, Solmeta Geotagger Pro Kompass) and design. Solmeta and Dawntech produce Nikon GPS since 2005. GP-1 came out 2008!
@MrMackowski, But to answer your question, I ask you this, will you be shooting in the dark? The D3s is a low light beast already and I hardly have to use my flash. And portrait wise, anything from 50-85mm will do.
@MrMackowski, You have the 70-200mm vrII, 14-24mm, 85mm f1.4 and a D3s. You sir, must be rich and I don't think you know what you're doing, with all that equipment you have is roughly around $11,000...more or less, and you ask the man if you need a flash?! I'm not bashing on you or putting you down, if you have the money more power to you. I feel it's pointless if you don't know what you're doing to be having all that expensive equipment. But like I said, more power to you.
Fro. I need Your advice- I want a lens. I need one so i can shoot close-up portraits (going to Israel, Egypt and Jordania next month). Three lenses on my mind: N24-70mm f2.8, or, N24mm f1.4, or N50mm f 2.8 (or1.4, don't remember). Allready have N70-200 f2.8 vr2, N85 f1.4 and N14-24mm f2.8. I will be shootnig with N D3s. Am I going to need a flash? Pleas help.
I'm going to reli on Your expiriance and advice, thank You.
lol I use GPS in Israel all time and it works fine. But about driving yeah, people really suck in it here. But if you know how to drive here you can drive everywhere ;)
@onemorelick You will, i will do one piece at a time because I jave a lot of gear. I will ramp it up and make a video with everything laid out if that is more exciting.

The GPS in Israel is very good...
Google just don't want to come to Israel and take photos of the streets, they are stingy.
The problem isn't terrorism (In the US they have problem with terrorism! q.v. World trade center)
