To be fair, he breaks their hearts too because sometimes they try to stay or they wait for him when he leaves, but he doesn't always come back. Example: Sarah Jane. I don't mean it badly, he said he couldn't stay with them because he didn't want to watch them decay. It's bad on both sides because they both feel left behind and heartbroken. And I would still come along if the Doctor asked :) A heart's gonna get broken sometime, I might as well see the universe while I'm at it and get a fair trade
@TheSinkingtruck Really? I had thought she was helping his other heart to work by itself (because when she punched once side he winced and said the other side).
Oh, well . . . at fifteen, my memory sure has gotten bad.
"they break my heart" and "her name was Rose" (from "The Runaway Bride") are my two favourite lines of the show. I just love how he puts so much emotion in these few words :) and his eyes... *sigh*
I guess this is the first time that the doctor admited that his companions break his heart everytime they leave and I think spoke those words because Jackson was for a few weeks the doctor and a time lord and he saw him like an equal!!! That's why he went with him to share christmas dinner...
what i like about this and in my belief i feel the doctor isn't just talking about his recent companions, i think he would be talking about every companion he has travelled with throughout his life. Anyone else think this? As for this scene it was very emotional and i have to admit i shed a tear, just the way David Tennant said it
I think this is one of the most heart-breaking scenes from Doctor Who. The lines and plot of it are so simple, yet the actors seem to bring it alive. I love it! Can anyone tell me what music is playing during it? Thank you x
@TheeRandomOne Eventually you would because as he says "You can live the rest of your life with me but, you can't live the rest of my life with me." He has to say goodbye to all his companions sooner or later. He has always been a tragic character, David Tennant wasn't the start of that at all. The poor Doctor. :(
Martha's character needs protecting b/c real people played those parts and the Doc's treatment of Martha was unacceptable. Martha was already a medical student when she met the Doc; her engagement was Martha's doing too as the Doc never met Tom Milligan so he doesn't get credit for that either. To the contrary Martha needed every protection as she had a lot to live for and the Doc needed her, but she didn't need him at all. The Doc's conduct was not funny as RTD seemed to have hoped.
Oh come on, he was oblivious to her feelings, had just lost Rose, and at the end of Martha's tenure he lost the only other member of his kind and the one guy who he can pretty much count on as a consistent factor in his life whether or not he wanted him to be or not.
Besides, it wouldn't have been fair to Martha if he reciprocated her feelings.
To be honest I think that he treated Martha as such so that he could push her away. Almost as if he wasn't allowing himself to be happy or whether he just didn't want her to have the same fate as Rose. We'll never know eh?
I wish instead of pushing Martha away, that the Doc had left her alone after saving her life at the hospital. The Doc knew what type of relationship he wanted from Martha and he thought the best way to lure her to him was to pretend a romantic interest in her. The Doc deceived and verbally abused Martha. Also, I don't like that the show didn't reveal the negative affects Martha must have suffered from being subjected to the Doc's mood swings, to walking the earth alone.
Sorry, if by the 900th year the Doctor is not mature enough not to semi-seduce and then basically make roadkill of Martha's heart, I still say he's a jerk and and it's time for Tennant's Doctor to go. In Runaway Bride when Donna tells the Doctor to find someone I shudder and think "poor Martha." The Doc could have at least apologized to Martha instead of just telling Donna re: Martha that it was all his fault. It does Martha no good, because the Doc never tells her he's sorry.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Baloney, this Doc is too selfish and I'm ready for a new one.
So companions have broken his heart(s) huh? What about Martha Jones? The Doc goes on about companions breaking his heart, when in fact he threw Martha, her heart and all, under the bus and dropped the TARDIS on her for good measure, but now he wants sympathy? Get rid of him, he's such a jerk.
first off its a tv show. second off his entire race was wiped out, it didn't take Rose long to be persuaded to have the clone, and martha was a close friend, hes completly alone, i mean comeon can any of us imagine what thats like?
This scene is soo sad. I think, that is one of the saddest scene with the 10th Doctor. Because he opens his heart for the first time and tells that his companions has broken his heart.
Just wanted to let all you Who Fans that me and my soon to be husband will be having a doctor who themed wedding! From the walk down the Isle to the party right down to the cake! We are open for Ideas! Please E-mail or coment my MySpace to let me know!
