  • I'm most fascinated by this bus.

  • I wonder why he didn't survive 3months if he hunted a one moose and other meat? can somebody tell me.

  • @TuukkaTT the moose meat was surrounded by fleas who deposit larva into it so these larva and mugs made the meat inedible.. it was the season too that caused Christopher not to find animals so he ate the plants mistaken with poisonous ones and these drove him to death. (According to the film "Into the Wild" Sean Penn)

  • Thanks for uploading. I'm not sure if you're a spiritual person/believe in spirits or not, but did you get any vibes from there?

  • Honestly, I'm surprised some money-monger hasn't bought the land AND the bus, gated the bus in, put signs on it that say "do not touch", and charge 20 bucks to walk up and take a look. After all, Alaska IS in the U.S. Land of opportunity....

  • thats so fascinating

  • btw why the hell is there a scotland flag hanging up? lol

  • Is that the bus where he really died In?

  • @akacpkiller21 yeah, same bed too..

  • thats one comfy looking bed

  • Christopher McCandless the man who died in this bus...verry unlucky ..damn

i saw the film last night

    RIP

  • Dude the bus is cool but it doesn't need 600 video tours

  • @tarifa37 why is it tragic?

  • So ok, how did the bus get there? Is there a road. There must be right? I dont get it.

  • I'm surprised there's so much stuff in there still

  • into the wild is my favorite movie ever, i am going to to the stampede trail hike soon, only fear is crossing the tek river

  • thx for posting

  • Welp, this is going on my bucket list >_>

  • I hope the bus is still alive and well, all you people who decide to visit and take a part any piece of it that you can should remember why you wanted to visit it in the first place! You know, were all just human , leave somthings alone. Peace will fined the meaning to Chris and all of the other people searching for what ever he thought was out there in the wild. We all know he taught us a lesson in his last words, Happiness is only real, when shared. Do not forget that !!!!!!

  • is this bus off the movie into the wild

  • @calen125 Yes. It's practically a tourist attraction now. Lots of people go to see it.

  • @sven240 thanks for copying and pasting straight out of the book

  • Does anyone know if the actually filmed at the Magic Bus in Into the Wild or did they recreate it?

  • @miniginger88 The film was shot nearer to Cantwell, and not at the actual bus.

  • Amazing story..................

  • Comment removed

  • @505AK Sweet?

  • @505AK interesting idea, but if the bus was in a museum, in society and not out 'in the wild", most of its meaning would be lost

  • pretty scary reminds me of fallout 3 with all that randy writing

  • Great video. The sad thing about this is as visitors increase so will the grafitti and souvenir hunters. Ryan's Daughter, a film by David Lean was made here in Ireland. They left the schoolhouse depicted in the film and I visited in 1970 when it was intact. I went back two years ago and its a ruin from trophy hunters taking bits away. It starts with grafitti and then they start pulling strips off. It should be left as a monument to the free spirit of Alexander.

  • @tarifa37 There was a road there long time ago.

  • Scotland Flag tied to the bus :)

  • Can someone explain me what he's exactly doing? I know he's exploring an abandoned bus but why and what's so exciting in this?

  • @SHNetnis This is the magic bus Chris McCandless stayed in while his journey in Alaska. I recommend you to read the book or see the movie Into the Wild, it's pretty amazing

  • @beeelovedd I read the book first your right IT WAS AMAZING! The movie was good also. This vid is sweet!

  • @SHNetnis You should deffently read the book and see the movie into the wild and then you'll have an idea of why it's so amazing and symbolic i'd say!

  • @SHNetnis Read the book, then watch the movie.

  • i was realy close to doing the same thing. travelling into the wilderness, living a nomadic life and avoiding the constraints that city life puts on us. the strangle hold of societies expectation being left behind as i pack up a few survival items and wander off free to solitude and beauty in the uninhabited areas of alaska, but i changed my mind, it was cold outside and raining quite hard

  • The big differences I remember between the book & the movie; McCandless was nearly polar opposite of the liberal that the movie implied he was. He was never beaten by railroad police, in fact he laughed at them and jumped on the next passing train after they warned him about trespassing, and McCandless did usually carry a pistol. He could have survived Alaska if he had a better plan e.g. learn from an Alaskan or Canadian who grew up doing outdoorsman type things & gradually moved into the wild.

  • @tarifa37 you should read the book. it explains everything that the movie doesnt

  • is it the bus from "into the wild"?

  • @zebradolken2 it is..

  • @zebradolken2 this is the real bus, the one they used in the movie was just recreated in a movie set

  • The book is so good, changed my perspective on a lot of things

  • whom is the owner of the bus

  • i beleve that i just saw a crack pipe and some weed

  • @sven240 so there is a road all the way up there ? Why didnt he just walk along it then.. you should have filmed the river ;)

  • first thing i would do... repair them windows. lol.

  • its kind of usless now since the windows are broken

  • How did the bus even get there?

  • WAIT , dont eat those berries. !!!!

  • stupid american hero

  • @derek1587 No doubt you are a miserable little twit.

  • what is the deal with the bus, what does it mean, why is it there

  • @caleb9608

Watch the movie Into The Wild. You will understand :)

  • watch the movie INTO THE WILD and you will see.

  • @icemilf lol read the book panzy.

  • @icemilf how bout read the book INTO THE WILD. The movie overly romanticizes McCandless and other characters.

  • soooo.....u sleep there?

  • Its a nice film, I don't mind the talking it gives a sense of realism.

  • Why was that bus there in the first place? A bus in the middle on no where, with no road. Please explain!

  • @tarifa37 the answer : Watch the Documentary "Call of the Wild" to get the real deal.

  • Is that a face on the window at :38

  • @kook4u Thats so creepy.

  • Amazing movie, Christopher McCandless is the man.

  • at least he was happy in the past 2 years

  • I heard Starbucks is buying the trailer and making it into a cafe.

  • @Kerkopes that would be awful.. they can't do that..

  • @Kerkopes yeah, Sean penn gave the go ahead, and most of the fiction too.

  • If the bus wasnt there at the time when he found it he could very well still be alive today.................... some story though........

  • @tarifa37 The Bus was one of....3 or 4, originally used around 1930 to house miners that were working on upgrading a trail so heavy vehicles could travel it. The poject was halted in 1936, but the "Magic Bus" remained to serve as shelter to hunters and hikers.

  • @TheJoinerKing

    Thanks.

  • Pretty amazing and respectful what has been done to the bus since your visit.

For all wonderers and searchers may your dreams be found!

  • what happend here?

  • @sgtsn1per Watch the movie "into the wild" you will understand.

  • @shillakillabillla will do, yeah i watched a video just before and found out, (=

  • I wonder, were the matress and the oven already there when Chris arrived? If so, who lived there before and how did the bus and the stuff get there at all?

  • @mienchen07 some construction workers (i think in the 70s) were paving a road down the stampede trail and the construction company brought three of these buses ought onto the trail and built little "rooms" inside each one for the workers to live in....after they finished the project, the company took two of the buses out and left the one for passersby to live in (like chris)...chris found it and lived there for a few months before he was found dead there

  • @amandavannie i see...interesting to know. thanks :)

  • And one more thing, to every one who's like "don't go to the bus, this is not Chris's spirit etc.", if you want to live like Chris, you should not be on your computer watching a youtube video righ now. Throw away you computer and then you can say what ever you want.

  • I really wish I could have met Chris.

  • I want to point out his final words about the Lord. It's better to not cuss or be bitter.

Going outdoors is a good way to be free for awhile but ultimately it is a choice to love and bless and forgive. He or she whom the Lord sets free is free indeed. God bless us all was Chris last words and mine in this comment ; GOD LOVES YOU ALL 100%!

  • People are so worthless. Chris was all about showing the world how there is more to life than material things, and now people do the opposite of what he wanted. They make themselves a trail and visit this bus like its a museum...

If you want to be like McCandless don't visit the bus, go out into the wild across the country. That's what chris stood for.

  • imo Mccandless would have hated the entire idea of people trekking out there. The idea was escapism from society and the wrong it does.

People using this as a shrine and then smashing the place up.... he had good insight to what people are like - worthless

  • if he ha true respect for life he would have preserved it, instead of thrown it away with stupidity

  • Thanks for the video ! Can anyone hook me up with a map ? Thanks

  • this guy had balls, i respect him

  • I think he deserves due respect, He had a dream and a calling in life. He followed it, not many people do that. I admire him for doing so.

  • so i guess this bus is now a museum

  • Comment removed

  • thanx for posting video....

  • great video, great movie and an awesome soundtrack. long live supertramp

  • @Nauticalman - I'm pretty sure CM lived about a year or so in 'free' status before he died.

  • Looks like a bullet hole in the front window.

  • amazing and sad in the same time, btw thx to share it!

  • Did Chris meet any hunters while he was living at the bus? I mean, from my understanding, the bus was a hunter's refuge for several years before Chris even arrived. He must have ran into a few guys, but I don't recall reading that in the book...

  • If there was one thing in life I ever had to do, it would be to trek out there with my mandolin, and play Eddie Vedder's 'Rise' on top of the bus.

  • In 1:46 you can si wat luke like a bullet hole go tru the glas window

  • It's sad to see the bus has been vandalized.I thought people up in Alaska were better than that.

  • all this arguing is funny, i think mcandles would laugh at people fighting over a video on the internet :/

  • i like how one mans originality brings out the worldly wisdom of many couch sitters an authority on something they no nothing about

  • The movie is not boring, nor is the book. All of Krakaur's stuff is great. And I'm a Phd in Engish and should know. Roger Ebert, though was right on target when he said Chris should have read "To Build a Fire" as long as he was reading Jack London. It's an uncanny reflection of his experiences. If anyone hasn't heard Krakaur narrate Into Thin Air, get the CD; it's fantastic. I'm a big skier, though, and I don't understand mountain climbers. RIP David Swenson who died on Killimanjaro.

  • I read and liked the book, disliked the incompleteness of the movie. However, being from the northwest (Washington) I realized this kid was doomed from the moment he decided to venture north with the care free style he had been living around the rest of the states. I enjoyed Chris's journey, where he was free from everything. It rubbed me the wrong way when he gave all his money away, he could have bought gear to help him or a snow cat to help him get in and out of the Stampede trail.

  • It's exactly this legendary place? That bus??? Great video.

  • I'm currently reading into the wild right now, & suddenly got extremely interested in all this. This video kinda reminds me of the titanic, how in the ending of the movie they showed the remains of the titanic.

  • hmmh, I must say that I respect Chrises choice of going out into the wild, but in the end he committed suicide by stupidity and unpreparedness. I had never heard of his story when I took my own trip 'into the wild' in northern Finland far above the arctic circle back in 2001. I even found my equivalent of the magic bus,(tractor trailer tho). But thinking you can get by only on hunting in the arctic is nothing but dumb. I packed 60+kg for a 5 week trip.

  • @noth606 "but in the end he committed suicide by stupidity and unpreparedness" , for it to have been suicide there would have had to of been a willingness to end his life... im pretty sure that this was not the case. I'm only correcting you as i dont think you realised what you had said, ----- I repect someone who in my eyes commited suicide ------

  • I think people need to have a bit more respect for what that bus has represented since 1992.....It's nice though, to see that some people actually take care of the site. I see alot of comments from people on youtube that want to go to the bus....To them, I say, Find your own journey. You can't truly be free, following someone else's path.

  • Is this really the bed on which the found Chris McGandless's body? Did they shoot the movie at the actual bus or did they recreate the scenery somewhere else? In the movie Into The Wild chris carves the lyrics of a song on a wooden table in the bus... Did he really do t his? Can you still see the table? I can't believe this lack of respect that people show. Before the movie this place wasn't famous at all. Now everybody goes there and carve their shit on the bus and leave trash.

  • Who cares? It's retarded and sad that this has become a tourist attraction.

  • how long does it take to hike to this bus....anyone? great video.

  • i hope any one to the bus will respect the spot, and keep it unchanged.

so that when i come to there, the bus will stand still.

  • i have to ask... how cold was it?

  • Whats So spetial about this Bus??

  • @MGONZALEZ625 you can wach the movie "in to the wild"...it is based on a true story about chris mc candless...you will like it

  • @MGONZALEZ625 Watch the movie, "Into The Wild."

  • I read that Chris' parents put a plaque to his memory in the bus - I wonder if it's still there. This feels uncomfortable, looking at a place where you know someone died.

  • That must me so peaceful there. I would love to just sit there and think.

  • wat happend to this bus?

  • did he die in that bus..

  • @ Zweas oui!

  • @ Zweas oui maleureusement

  • Well, it`s always sad when someone dies. Here we see a rather unordinary person. Brave, but immature and egoistic. Sure there were better ways to get closer to happiness and he saw it all at last.

  • where are is that the bus up healy where the guy died

  • I totally agree with you 'walatalalaw' . I admire this fellow.

I watched the movie a while back, it was alright.

I came across the book at a second hand store yesterday morning. I finished it this morning. I couldn't put it down.

    Absolutely amazing and inspiring story!!

  • I'm currently reading the book, and I'm very pleased about how close to home the movie stayed to the book. This story is truly inspirational with more then just the hope of a life like his, but just in the simple ways of living differently to the main stream life. :)

  • i must go there before i die, that place is so inspirational.

    R.I.P. chris... a.k.a. alexander

  • Why does everybody assume he was so happy during his days as a runaway? Yes, he was free, but he seemed to have his fair share of issues. Ive done my share of travelling myself, but you cant run away from your problems. When it came to the end of his life, I bet Chris was lonely as hell.

  • wooo, theres a scotland flag, in scotland we have similar things in wilderness called"bothies"

  • hey someone to help me,is this real video from chris or..???

  • it´s some guy at the bus .. not mc candless

  • "So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future" C McCandless to Ron Franz ... april 1991, rest in peace ALEXANDER SUPERTRAMP

  • bus was left there when a group travelled into alaska wile logging and moose hunting, there was 2 buses they left one for hunters and campers.

  • does anybody know how the bus actually got out there, into the wild?? I just saw the movie for the first time yesterday and fell in love with this story!...but yeah any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! =)

  • I'm not sure if it was driven, or pulled there, but it was moved there intentionally as a makeshift shelter for moose hunters. There are bridges and dirt roads that do travel through that area where the bus was located. -Thats as much as I know.

  • Awesome! Thank you very much! =)

  • I cannot for the life of me figure out why so many people spend so much time hating on Chris and what he did.....Pointless....

  • They don't gripe about him donating $20+K to charity when he began his simple life. Nor do they criticize him for giving back the money he was paid for the agricultural work he did months before he left for Alaska.

-Their fingers are quick to point, but their lips are too arrogant to praise.

  • @Nauticalman That 20k wasn't his to give away. Loving parents thinking of his future, giving him a chance with less stress so no. We applaud him for that. As for his own earnings well then he do what ever he likes.

  • @3700894th You have a good point. I guess it is easier to pass things along when they are given to you than if you earn them yourselves.

Still it boggles my mind how Americans can't accept any lifestyle that doesn't comply with 'the system'. I always encourage people to live the life THEY WANT TO LIVE, not live their lives for someone else. If this is all he wanted in life, nothing more should be shoved down his throat.

  • Because they're either jealous, too scared, or too arrogant to accept anything different than their own 'perfect view' of what life means.

  • very well said... most people think that the life we live is the life we should be living, that it's the best way to live... but who knows? maybe it isn't... and it's sad to hear that those who dared believe otherwise are now insulted and criticized for wanting to find the true beauty of life

  • Thanks for remaining completely silent while filming this. Everyone else has music playing in their videos, and its hard to capture the silence that amplifies how 'alone' CM was out there.

Excellent video angles and views of the bus.

  • Have any of you fucken retards read the book? I mean seriously not all people who run to the wild are retarded. He gave up everything for an experienced that none of you fucken idiots would remotely come close too cuz your too close too your mom and dads and basement video games and bar hopping lifestyles. There is a lot more you should learn before you go ripping your retard faces off at someone who had more balls than you's will every come close to seeing. HE WENT THERE TOO LIVE

  • agreed... especially the part about everyone playing vit ya games and hittin up the bars.... what a waste of life

  • So, if he went there to live, I guess you're saying he failed?

  • He lived a better life in those 3 months than most of us will ever lead in a lifetime. Life is not about living long, it's about truly living every moment. He had his way of doing so. Respect him for it.

  • @walatalalaw he lived there only for 3 months??

  • I think so. around that much time (which is a lot for someone living alone ;) )

  • @gavriel1000 only?? hahaa that is a very long time..plus it was a bit more then 3 months

  • @walatalalaw as Abraham Lincoln said "in the end its not about the years you lived, its what happened within the years that matters."

  • Comment removed

  • @TheWallie2k alrighty then haha

  • @walatalalaw I don't agree at all. I'm living life, my own path, and not demeaned by some Hollywood Idolization smear. I respect the lad, but holly-should have told the truth. Watch the Documentary "Call of the Wild" to get the real deal. Turns out the book was part sham too. People close to the tramp, say he would have been appalled at Penns film

-Dont' follow in footsteps, you'll wind up stuck in a smaller footprint.

  • @Paulie0117 thats true i know i am, every come close my friend! every come close!

  • @Paulie0117 why are u doing like u the only one thats understand him and all of us are bunch of retardds that didnt understand him.wtf are u talkin about man ur the most retarded person i ever see ...and wtf if u dont like the modern world why the fuck are u on ur computer?!! go to the fuckin wild and live there forever..problem solved

  • @Paulie0117 First: chill out, Second: learn how to type.

  • @Paulie0117 ...they have internet in the wild paulie, shut the fuck up,, live your life and stop defending a dead man..theres nothing to understand...we lost our place in the wild along time ago..i think it was somtime between mc donalds and wii fitness?or how about your definition of wild sittiing in front of a screen talking shit to other people

  • @Paulie0117 THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If he had some survival training or a map of the area, he most likely would have survived. But a map to him seemed too dependent on everything he hated. Good point about the gun and other commercially made items. He was a hypocrite. I hope his experience serves as a reminder to others who want to follow his steps... you better not mess with nature without the skills to back it up, otherwise it'll kill you. I love his ambitions but use some common sense...

  • What they don't tell you in the movie, is that when he got out of the truck in Alaska, he left the map on the dashboard. There were two bridges on the map up and down river that he could have used to get back to civilization. Yes, another error that led to fatality, he was after all only human. After 2 years living in tents and shelters, one does lose a lot of fear of their environment. But he did study books on local vegetation and preparing meat. -He tried, just made mistakes, thats all.

  • @Nauticalman

I haven't had the time lately to read the book. From my understanding, outside of the Hollywood movie, was that he didn't have a map at all. If he did, then I'm assuming it was physical and mental fatigue (malnourishment) that prevented him from functioning 100% and he spaced the map. I'm a firm believer if you are to do something like this you need at least one other person (with skills) with you.

  • Thanks snakeii0. I'm still looking for the book. I received the information about the map from a statement made to law enforcement by the man who drove Christopher to where he trecked off into the wilderness.

I too agree, that safety is in numbers, especially in Alaska, bears don't bother groups, but aren't afraid of one man. I've had to travel alone in the Alaskan wilderness, and I have to confess, the solitude and peace IS ADDICTING. I think thats what leads so many to flirt with danger.

  • On dirait le bus de Into the wild

  • what's in the suitcase? (I feel like I'm watching pulp fiction.)

  • I saw that suitcase in other people's videos as well from the previous summer. I don't think CM carried a suitcase out there, at least there was no account of it from the records of his findings by the hunters and law enforcement.

  • @Nauticalman

The suitcase was put there by his family. If you read the book, it tells you toward the end that Walt and Bille placed a suitcase with basic survival needs and a letter stating to call your family if your reading this.

  • Thanks Kaycienf. I'm going to buy the book. I appreciate the info.

  • and now go and die chudaluver1 go and learn something about chris

  • Chris was such a hypocrite (just like all other hippies)....they want to be "free" and be one with nature.....yet still consume and rely on man-made materials. I have a question for all you hypocrite hippies out there......what was Chris doing with a gun and ammo? Did he make that gun out of bark? Did he make those bullets with dirt? What was he doing with ANY man-made materials?? Funny how he relied on a MAN-MADE bus to provide heat and shelter. Without it, he would have been dead in a week

  • Is this the same bus that Chris lived in, or is th one the movie prop?

  • My first summer in Alaska was 1992, same year Chris Mccandless was found in that bus. He was my age, and like him, I hitch-hiked up the Al-Can hwy. to get to Alaska. Always felt a kinship with him, even though I never met him.

  • Same here, same age, same desire to enter the wild. -I prepared the same journey, however a job opportunity changed my course in life, and I never went the route of survivalism.

I feel as if Chris' life and death mirrors what could have been my own fate, had I taken that course myself.

  • well even if its a bus. thats crazy that there is even a bus but like. is someone living there or something? like can you reply why there is an abandoned bus here

    <
