No, actually if you watch, it wasn't a cheap shot, which he could have taken. Krygier punches 66 in the face, knocking his helmet off. THAT was the cheap shot. Lemieux just went at him but the dude's back was turned so he got him to turn around by hitting him like that, down low. He didn't maliciously swing or whack the other guy. Man 66 wanted to BRAWL and that other guy deserved to get his ass kicked. Man if only he could have played a whole career...

I looked up the Todd Krygier fella which Mario hit with the stick from behind. 540 NHL games and 530 PIM total, and 95/96 16 games and 12 PIM. And he is 5.11 and weights 180. Lemieux is really tough.

Two problems with lemieux though. He was a smoker and it affected his playing, and he said that early in his carreer, he was lazy and didn't have enought drive.
Lemieuxe quit smoking early in his career. And Secondly your telling me he had no drive? he played threw some of the worst injuries in hockey, most people would have hung up the skates, at one point in his Career he couldn't bend over to tie his own skates, yet he scored 2-3 points a game.
I actually saw an interview where Lemieux said he didn't try as hard as he should've. He was saying if he tried more he would've been a much better player. I have nothing but respect for the guy, but early on he said he wasn't doing the right thing. And by the way, I have played a shit load of hockey in my life. I'm 23 and have played hockey for 17 years.
Mario as well as Wayne are both leaders among men. Both have often showed true leadership by battling among adversity. If you want to comment on a leader like Mario- at least read the facts. Paul Coffey was a star with Mario in the early days, and Kevin Stevens proved to be good. I do agree Lemieux never had the luxury of being surrounded by all-stars. He was the Penguins, and as far as I'm concerned still the greatest player to ever wear a Pens jersey.

Let's not forgot that Gretzky was basicly 160 pounds all dressed up. Mario was a giant with incredible skills.
But Gretzky was able to offset his lack of physical strength and habilities with the greatest inteligence in the game. He could read the game so well. On the other hand as I said Mario powered threw his opponent with his skills and strength. I prefer Gretzky's inteligence to the bruth force of Lemieux. It's a matter of choice.

Brute force? Have you seen Mario Lemieux's highlights?? He schooled one of teh greatest defencemen Bourque by dekeing him out behind his back..Or how bout the one in salt lake city when he represented canada? He faked a one timer and allowed the puck to go between his legs to his teamate and scored. If that's not intellegence then I don't know what is.

I looked up the Todd Krygier fella which Mario hit with the stick from behind. 540 NHL games and 530 PIM total, and 95/96 16 games and 12 PIM. And he is 5.11 and weights 180. Lemieux is really tough.

lemieux i have to say is way more talented than gretzky, and plays better than him, if he had more players to defend their captain and star player, he wouldnt have gone through so many injuries, and he also had a type of cancer, so he could have passed gretzky in points, even though he has about 3000~!!! lemieux is de bomb and i live in pittsburgh

I coughed up a lung laughing at your response. Obviously you have never played any high tempo hockey in your life, Mario Lemieux has/had way more skill and slight of hand then Gretzky, Gretzky himself has mentioned a time or two he wishes he had Mario's hands.

dude!!! if wayne would have had cancer instead of Lemieux, then Lemieux would be the best player of all time .ON TOP OF THAT,Lemieux has played only 915 games in his career and has played a LOT of his games in ultra crappy condition.Everyone was scared 2 hit Gretzky because of his doormen goons in the teams.Lemieux would handle himself.I respect Lemieux a lot more than Gretzky.Mario "THE BEST".

Two problems with lemieux though. He was a smoker and it affected his playing, and he said that early in his carreer, he was lazy and didn't have enought drive.

Lemieuxe quit smoking early in his career. And Secondly your telling me he had no drive? he played threw some of the worst injuries in hockey, most people would have hung up the skates, at one point in his Career he couldn't bend over to tie his own skates, yet he scored 2-3 points a game.

I actually saw an interview where Lemieux said he didn't try as hard as he should've. He was saying if he tried more he would've been a much better player. I have nothing but respect for the guy, but early on he said he wasn't doing the right thing. And by the way, I have played a shit load of hockey in my life. I'm 23 and have played hockey for 17 years.

Mario as well as Wayne are both leaders among men. Both have often showed true leadership by battling among adversity. If you want to comment on a leader like Mario- at least read the facts. Paul Coffey was a star with Mario in the early days, and Kevin Stevens proved to be good. I do agree Lemieux never had the luxury of being surrounded by all-stars. He was the Penguins, and as far as I'm concerned still the greatest player to ever wear a Pens jersey.

t'es fou raide!!!! Lemieux played only 915 games in his career with crappy players most of his career and had 2 deal with cancer. Compared 2 dynasty teams like the Oilers of the 80's with kurri,messier,etc.Wayne was a wuss who never got hit.
