HI THERE....kinda sad that no one guessed my Dad, Red Rowe, as the host on this show, and I believe he hosted the very last show as a substitue for Monty Hall!!!! Most of your questions, I found are on Wikipedia .... I have a copy of one show when my Dad hosted it., sent to our family years ago from I believe some man in Ireland who was a fan of my Dad....guess I should try to download this and his others here on YouTube....will try....thanks for this great to see........
This is amazing. I can't recall the exact year, but I was on the show as a kid (pre-Monty Hall). To this day, I can still remember sitting in the green room with all the other children, the game board, being introduced to the audience and telling the host a joke. My mom stacked all the prizes I won in the living room of our apt. One of the best prizes was a 2 night stay at the Disneyland Hotel and passes to the park. My goodness, that was only 50+ years ago!!
I was 10 and remember watching this, I think on Saturdays am. I loved this game show, i wish someone would release a dvd of any episodes left. Would be a real treat
Mr.Jack Narz was the first host of"Video Village"weekday mornings on CBS TV in the early 1960's.But..Jack had to quit the show..due to family problems at home(Home is in L.A.,Cal.)Mr.Hall took over as the show's second and last mc.
Apart from "Video Village", co-hostess Eileen Barton was best known for singing "If I Knew You Were Coming, I'd Have Bakes A Cake!", which came out a few years before "Video Village" premiered.
So it was no surprise that she sang on the show.
This was also the first of many game shows created and produced by Merrill Heatter and Bob Quigley. Their best-known show was the original "Hollywood Squares".
Both Video Village and later Shenanigans, were made on the same game board. Milton Bradley just changed the graphics. I also remember Video Village Jr. On saturday morning. Then in 1964 - 65, Shenanigans. I wonder if they were on the same set.
I've been looking for clips of this show since I first saw it! I remember seing it on V when I was a 5 y.o. It's amazing what is imprinted on your mind from childhood. I still have he board game (which looks a lot like the TV show!
I wore out the channel dial on the old portable Admiral set; "Video Village" was on opposite "The Price is Right" my grandmother and I used to swtich back and forth during the commercials. (For those far too young to know or remember, "The Price is Right" was an NBC show in those days.) I've often wondered why Nickelodeon never approached Merrill Heatter about a revival.
As a pre-teen back then I remember this very well, the Sat.morning version, and Stubby Kaye's "Shenanigans" as well.I even remember how the theme song went!
Thank you SO much for posting this, as Video Village is one of the earliest memories of television for me personally. I would have been four years old when the show first aired on CBS, and can distinctly remember Jack Narz as host, followed by Monty Hall, not to mention announcer Kenny WiIliams.
I understand that there are at least four VV episodes still in existence. Will it be possible in the future to view the full episode from which this clip comes?
Yep, your post mirrors my feelings. We must be the same age. Remember The Millionaire, Rescue 8, Sea Hunt and Whirlybirds? Remember that commercial with the two irons racing down the ironing board? LOL.
That's wonderful. I was in the 5th grade when I saw this show. I thought Jack Narz was the host, but I guess my memory is faulty. I don't remember the song on the bus.
Actually, the 1961-'62 Saturday morning show was known as "VIDEO VILLAGE JUNIOR EDITION", and was "reworked" for sponsor Milton Bradley as "SHENANIGANS" (1964-'65), fronted by Stubby Kaye.
It was most famous for its huge Las Vegas-style dice cage that was reproduced for the Milton Bradley home game. A children's version was also produced and aired Saturday mornings. The numeric "spinner" replaced the dice cage when the series moved to Hollywood, upsetting most of the show's fans. The home game was so popular that is was produced for three years after the series' cancellation. "Kids Video Village" was revived as "Shenanigans" with Stubby Kaye during the 1970s for ABC.
I used to have the home game of this show. It was pretty fun. I got it on eBay. I think that this show could work today; just up the stakes and it could be done. Maybe for syndication, prime time on the networks or GSN.

I have to got to admit, I love this. All the errors, corny-ness, and everything about it just bring a smile to my face.
