I remember this as a Lutheran (whoops, Wesley) hymn: 'Alas! and did my Savior bleed'. The melody (New Britain) is found a second time in my hymn book. 'Thee is a safe and secret place'. [Sorry for the instinctive reaction to thinking that every hymn in Lutheran hymnbook is Lutheran.]
Hi, you are correct to say that this tune is actually for '! and did my Savior bleed'. But somehow since as a child, I had been singing this song "As pants the hart for cooling streams" with the tune:Martyrdom. It may be because we actually belong to lutheran church. Thank you for your information.
