We put WAY too much focus on running open wheel cars on ovals in this country. I believe that's why we don't get people into F1. Our F3k, F2k series are much less serious and well funded than the europeans comparable series. It's not that ovals aren't difficult, it's just that once you've figured it out, it seems to simply come down to equipment and preparation, and the driver skill doesn't seem to matter as much.
@NatetheGreat620 I say that is a wrong assessment. Take any road racer and put them in a oval track and they will pick it up instantly. Take any oval racer and put them in a road track and they will struggle... The only oval drivers good at a road track have had experience prior... JMHO
@NatetheGreat620 I'll disagree, oval racing requires little track learning, just race around in circles, if you know what direction is left you will have little trouble. Road racing requires much more concentration, braking skill, using the optimal racing line and more advanced car setups.
I am not quite sure why you would believe that only turning left requires more skill than turning left AND right. Saying oval racing takes more talent than road racing is an inane statement. I have raced in road races against oval racers, and they have nowhere near the talent it takes to pilot something without bumpers around a track that isn't a circle.
Oval racing has its own challenges but ask any racing afficionado around the globe and they'll tell you that road racing requires the most skill. This is a no brainer.
@RolexRacer I did and all I saw was a bunch of carnage just like this. Racing side by side is extremely hard to do on road course, its much easier to do on a oval witha car that has fenders.
@RolexRacer Driving side by side with no right turn or hard brake into a hairpin makes is much easier in oval. Ask anybody who knows anything about racing. Your spitting opinions that are immediately recognized by people with knowlege as ignorant.

Kevanb what is he supposed to do, stop and get out?
And rolex guy: Turn 5 is a heavy braking corner after the fastest straight of the track, did you notice the left front lock up?

Just proves that road racers in general lack the talent to race side by side.

@RolexRacer You can't really be stupid enough to believe that.
And just so you know star mazda also races ovals and is in the rung below indy lights on the indycar ladder.
