  • To all of you saying that Brazilians do it better. Let me just tell you that these are Brazilians in this video! You have to know your history but know that most of the Asian looking samba dancers are probably Brazilian

  • that is bizzzzzzzzzzzaaar... No one can do carnival like the brazilians!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As much as I love Brazil's carnival, it could use a little more of this kind of 'weirdness.' Anime inspired Samba would fill my geeky heart with joy.

  • 0:33 he's doing a little kid?!

  • @salsatheone he is suppose to be a she and the head representing a guy - like I said: weird stuff

  • xDD Well the brazilian Samba are the best but the japanese are very nice too xDDDDDDD

  • are these japanese nationals or japanese-brazilians??

  • @zoomboomafoo it's a mix but most are japanese

  • Bravo!

again just last year I made the trip from Osaka up to Asakusa, then to Koenji!

    Super video!

Yeah...those costumes look a little too hot for this year's weather!

  • @LatinoSan yeah they had a lot of staff with water bottles on hand

  • I love my Brazilian Japanese peeps.

  • 0:37 thats the first ive ever seen a black chick in a japanese samba parade. she was pretty though

  • well when it comes to the stuff they can come up with tv shows and anime wise and all that... I think it's safe to say we already knew they can do some weird stuff... just something you don't normally see in a parade is all. But still very interesting.

  • Only a Brazilian can Samba, but Japanese girls in skimpy costumes are just as exciting!

  • 8:35 lol so close XD

Pretty nice carnival, I think it's even better than last years, unless if it was the coverage that got better lol

  • i like sexy samba girls

  • It's like a Japanese Mardi Gras! :D

  • @mmacconn069 agree.. it is like a mardi gras.. LOL.. makes you wonder what they would do if they celebrate mardi gras if they go all out like this just for samba festival..

  • there's not enough ass shaking in this video…not enough real samba…however, still interesting japanese expression of samba

  • thats popular out there? thats weird but cool

  • Dave, it show that you have never been in Brazil!!! The wildness, the sexiness, the color in Rio's carnival is this 100 fold. But it's natural after all. Yet I'm amazed that Japanese actually have a pretty descent carnival!!! It mustn't be easy for Japanese girls to put short and sexy dresses and go on the street to dance like that!!! Just that, actually amazes me!

  • @MrBigall I can image! I was just struck by the Aztec sacrifice theme. Good thing they didn't do the wearing of flayed skin.

  • @MrBigall Considering the fact that they're normally so modest and self-effacing... yeah, I agree; I also find it hard to imagine the average J-girl touching one of those costumes with a ten-foot naginata.

Of course, if you look carefully at the spectators along the sidewalks, just about every guy that isn't there with his wife (and several of the ones that are) has a huge grin on his face... so at least SOMEBODY'S enjoying it. XD

  • wow this is the weirdest and vivid carnival i've seen in Japan. Really cool. I love how you find all these festivals I've never heard of. Thanks man!

  • Yet another awesome vid, packed full of pure win.

0:27 - Man, I'd hate to be the guy who has to wear that costume.

One thing puzzles me, though, Dave... Japan is notorious for its censorship (at least on the surface) of anything sexual. Granted it's a well-established festival and I'm sure that guys come from far and wide to watch it, but doesn't the skimpiness of the costumes cause problems and conflicts with the whole "Open sexuality is bad" mentality? (That girl at 0:03 is nearly naked...)

  • @Jimaera skimpiness is no problem. It's genitalia that they raise a stink about and slap a mosaic on

  • @RoninDave Hmmm, fair point. I love how what basically amounts to bottle caps over the nipples are enough to keep the censors away. But hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. XD

Apart from the sexiness of this festival, though, there IS something inherently really freaking weird about it, especially those parade floats that look like giant babies. I know there's a pretty sizable population of nisei and even sansei Brazilians in Japan, but seeing stuff like this still intrigues me.

  • @RoninDave So pasties and a Dorito are cool but no dangly bits ;p

  • @RoninDave thumbs up for skimpiness

  • Wish I could have been there.

  • You weren't kidding about the weird.

  • @Halk52 yeah the Aztec theme with the hearts and open rib cages was a bit in the realm of the odd. Also got to love the defibulator-dancing girls!

  • This was very cool! Really did remind me of a Mexican style festival. So many weird yet pretty outfits. Is the weather starting to cool off at all in Tokyo?

  • @StarDr0ps not by much. It took forever for summer to get here and now I just want it to leave

  • @RoninDave: haha understandable. We're getting a small taste of Fall here in the Washington DC area. It unfortunately won't last for long. But it was nice while it lasted. ^^;
