why would anybody dislike videos you guys have made ? your putting in work time and effort to help others damn haters smh ignore them and thanks again
I love your vids, they've helped me so much! I have a quick question though. Every now and then, I play against a defender who's really handsy. The Box helps a lot but when I start my dribble, he reaches and swipes so much that makes me panic and throw bad passes or pick up my dribble when I shouldn't have. Any tips on how to keep calm under this type of pressure?
@SpikeV Work on your confidence! You can do this by spending a lot of time working on your handles with both hands. Also check out our video "The Hammer!"
@SpikeV Work on your ballhandling to get some "go to moves" that get you some space. You just need to break their pressure once with a crossover in game. After that they usually give you room. 1. Make some space with diamond 2. Pick up dribble away from defender to create even more room. 3. Attack strong and if needed use some simple move that you have confidence to do. If they try pressure you you should make it look like your enjoying of it.
The behind the back dribble is not to be used idly (as your opening clip shown)
I strip people 80% of the time when they try a behind the back dribble without having a counter move.. it just leave the ball out of your full control for such a long time
@ISonbabball The "TYPICAL behind the back dribble (wrap around) is very slow and easy to get your hands on. The FLAT BACK DRIBBLE is explosive and quick if executed correctly. If done correctly and at game speed there will be no take-aways using this dribble. Doing it "idly, does expose the ball. You have to make the defender defend first by going at then hard and then execute.
@sk8t3rkyd How cool is that????? We love the fact that we can offer information that you can use to get better. Please stay tuned and "Spread the Word."
thanks for your guys videos they really help , and can i get your guys opinion should i change my shooting form , in my shooting form the ball is slightly on the right side kinda like derrick fisher i tried to change many times but it just doesnt work for me the by the way im really good at my old shooting form . @mattster19 If you are happy with your shooting form and you are making shots there may be little reason to change your shot. There are many pros who have poor mechanics, but they can put the ball in the bucket.
Thank you very much for all of your videos. I use/watch as many as I can to play better in my weekly pickup game, and the guys there all tell me that I'm improving every week.
One I'd love to see is video of how to shoot alone at game speed. I think I am, but I always have much worse accuracy in game.
@willystarr Willy, we plan to post a series of "Game Speed" Shooting drills in the near future. Meanwhile, keep working as hard as you can in your own drills to simulate game speed. It all helps. Remember, in games we deal with fatigue, defense and the speed of the game. It's natural to have these things affect our shooting. Just keep working.
@ShotScience, u said if they crowd u go, but wen I try to drive by them they are smothering me at my side and I cannot finish, what should I be doing in my drive to stop this?
@SenorJakeP If you attack them aggressively to the basket they will usually foul you. If you get to the basket you need to learn a couple of finishes. Go to our video "Finishes at the Rim." Here you will find nine ways to beat the defenders We recommend that you select two or three and let them become your signature finishes. Remember, practice them a ton so you can be effective.
@MrTriggafinger If they are close enough to reach in for the ball they are close enough for you to go by them. Our rule: "They crowd, I go!" This means that if they are close enough to reach in they cannot stop my drive. They have little time to react.
That's the problem i always have but couldn't figure out how to do the step good. i would always get stolen because i have no movement with the ball.I will always put the ball "in the box"
@dropsblood Well, this should help you out. Let us know how it works for you. Movement from one out-of-the-box locations to another helps protect the ball.
@MrY3110w Curious where you see girls in this game! This is a College contest in Men's basketball. There are several guys who have longer hair. Is that what you mistake for girls?????
@ShotScience any tips on how to avoid the ball being stolen when driving in the lane? Also, any tips on how to keep your balance when being explosive? Thanks
@thelankyginger: Protecting the ball is something that we learn how to do with practice, confidence and time. Your balance while driving is also a learned thing that comes from a lot of practice and play.
hi shotscience. when running 2-3 zone defense is our center allowed to stay in the key for more than 3 seconds, because our center didn't get called for that in our last game. (FIBA Rules)
@hevvymetal2410: hevvy, we have checked the FIBA rules and they conform to the U.S. rules. This violation is only for the team who has control of the ball. The defensive players are not bound to get out of the key at all.
Well when I play basketball I'm a big guy in the post well it seems that my friend is small and can post me up like nothing using the pivot move left right shot, jumpshot and I don't know how he does it he's 5"10 and I'm 6"4 235 lbs he fakes alot I need more understanding of my foot work using the pivot
@moNsterXL27: Well, we suppose that after you have played him for a while you should be able to figure out what he is doing. One other thing that you should know as well. The closer you play to him the easier it is for him to beat you. Try to maintain a couple of feet spacing from him so you have time to re-act to his moves. All too often will allow ourselves to hug the offensive player and when in this situation they can usually beat us. Create space from the guy.
@moNsterXL27 figure out what he is trying to do and call for help defence if you have trouble. Also, figure out a patteren of the opposit teams plays that what i do alot and it works( like a defence call 23 i figured out that is 2-3 zone.

Hi, I have a problem with protecting the ball when I'm on a fast break I sometimes lose control and the defense simply taps it out. I also have problems when driving at a steady pace. The defender usually manages to stick their hands out and slap it out. Another things is sometimes the defender lets me drive past and hooks there hand around and taps it out. Are there drills on protecting the ball on the drive and not losing control on a fast break. Tips Please
@MercyPlox: Protecting the ball on the break and losing control probably is due to not being strong enough with your dribble. You should spend a ton of time just working on "pounding the ball" when you are dribbling. You can use the "Arm Bar" to protect the ball as well. When you drive and they are able to tap the ball you might check out our video on the channel "The Killer First step." This pretty much handles those tap aways. The reach behind is taken care of with this as well.
what should i do when i play my friend he is a really good defender and every time i get the ball he is in my face and i just cant shake him there is like no space between us and there are no fouls and i cant get around him! how could i get by him without having to stop and hold the ball with 2 hands? btw great videos they help alot
@TheNextBaller181: Well, as long as there are no fouls he probably has the edge on you. We believe that the closer the defender plays you the easier it is to go by him. Attack him hard off the dribble and get to the basket. He knows that he can make you really uncomfortable by playing you so close, however he is vulnerable to you aggressively attacking him toward the basket. Don't stop or slow down on the attack. Get to the rack!!!!! Thanks for your comment.
haha, you probably see comments from me every day, but these videos are extremely helpful. I'm dissapointed I couldn't have found these earlier. Thank's for taking the time out do make these videos on things that just aren't taught.
@baltimoreravens9: This is our intention, to provide players with information that we believe in. Thanks so much for your support and we will be offering more videos reqall soon. Stay tuned and please, "Spread the Word!"
@kp0327: kp, you make our day! We are delighted that we can offer our videos and ideas to help you coach and for your players to learn. We were perplexed by many of the videos on YT because they seemed to be about "Hype" or really dull.
We wanted to provide something that was easy to follow and hopefully help out young players. As we have found out there are quite a few coaches from around the world who feel as you do. How cool is that? We have many more videos to post. Stay tuned.
hey i know your vids are to help you get better at basketball but most people watching your vids are teenagers probably in middle school or high school trying 2 get better to make there school's team like me so i was thinking that you guy's should make a vid specifically pointing things that might impress your coach just a suggestion since you guys have an actual basketball coach
@datguyreggie1: reggie, as a coach, the things that impress me and any other coach you will come across, is solid fundamentals and an aptitude for the game. Essentially, these are things that are in your control now. I recommend that you keep working really hard on these two parts of your game. BTW, you might find it interesting that our SS supporters cover a really wide spectrum of people, especially BB adults. Thanks for your suggestion and stay tuned.
@mystique0417: Thank you so much for your comments. We work real hard to make these videos useful to those who are into basketball. Stay tuned for more.
gs: Anytime you have the ball in "The Box" it is exposed to the defense. If you get the ball up above the box or at its corners the defense has more difficulty with contesting your shot.
Nice Job Shot Science! But i was looking more into the topic of where coach show and tells some ball handling drils and going more in to the topic of actually guarding the ball as a offensive player, so you don't lose the ball. Thanks AND GOOD JOB!!!!
Hey Coach i have a question how can get my shot of quick and accurate because when i play the defense always close me down fast which gives me no time on the ball.
Please check out our video on "Creating Space". Another thing to remember is that the defense is most vulnerable when they are closest to you. Keep your dribble alive and attack them.
Thanks so much! Let us know how it works out for you! It's one of those things that if you get down, you'll have an advantage over everyone else and your defender is in trouble!
Thanks for this way awesome video i have been wanting to know how to keep the ball away from defenders these videos are perfect i am tellin as many players as i can
My question for the Ask the Coach Contest is: What should you do when you are surronded by many offensive players and there is nobody to pass to? Any recommendations? I always get cornered to the edge of the court, the corner and then I cant drive because my back is facing the audience and cant turn around because of so much offensive pressure?
What should I do? What should I do to stop being cornered and being forced to pick up the ball?
This is a great question! There are several things that come into play here and we'll have a video on it in the future. For right now, it is important to remember not to pick up the ball near the half-court or along the sidelines. When you do this, you effectively add a new line of defense for your opponents. A second point is that you have to be aware of the defense and not let yourself get corralled in. Make your move before they get there. Hope this helps for now! More to come!!
Check out Chase's "Mental Rehearsal" video. It will help you prepare for tough competition. As for the short hoops, I would stick with the regulation height, if at all possible. If you're not able to, work your way up!
Thank you so much Shotscience. Please keep posting videos!! I'm checking everyday to see new videos in your channel. :)
By the way, can you post videos about the wrist movement? Some said snapping the wrist is the best way to get the backspin, others said it's bad since it is a bad, stressful movement.
A video on wrist follow thru is due up soon. We feel that a snapping of the wrist is not such a good idea. Wrist follow thru, yes! We like to see the follow thru be a relaxed wrist to create less spin on the ball. We call this "The Flop" or relaxed follow thru. We will explain the reasons for this in an upcoming video. Try this out and watch how soft the ball is on the rim and the ball stays around the basket on missed shots.
Sans: We did post this video. I am assuming that your ball is short as the reason for the air ball. If so, the usual reason for this is that we have not used enough leg power. This is the most common reason for short shots. The wrist flop or snap is not a major part of the power and we don't believe that it should be. Explain in video soon to be up. We have a video on youtube re: how to use the legs. Please go there and see if this helps you.
phirephaxl: The arc is good!!! The best angle of ball entry into the basket is between 45-60 degrees. If you shoot a flat shot the basket's usable target area is small. If the arc is flat (30 degrees) the basket size is only about 9" and is oval shaped. The ball is 9.5" in diameter. You can see the problem.
We are coming out with a video that will explain this more fully.
Ok Shot Science all ur videos help. BUT i am trying to get a really good form, like i want to shoot higher so it looks better and i dont get blocked, but i am WAY more consistent when i shoot from the chest area but i dont want that. and even when i try to shooot higher the ball has no arc and it just straight. What can i do. i tried my legs and that helps a little more. what can i do i really want to shoot from a higher place but i cant. and im almost 13 yrs old so its hard. what can i do??????
You guys rock! may i ask if you guys will put a video on set shots, jump shots, and layups? either one or all of them! your videos are really helping me!
i am a 6ft ++ boy who play basketballball.i can dunk a 8ft hoop.but no matter how MANY times i dunk, the ball seems to bounce out from the hoop itself.plz tell me how 2 do it......i am really desperate
The box is an essential concept to any player trying to improve their game. If the ball is in the box, the defender can get a hand on the ball while staying on balance in a stance. If the ball is outside of the box the defender must come out of the stance to get a hand on the ball, which gives the offensive player the advantage if they remain on balance!
why would anybody dislike videos you guys have made ? your putting in work time and effort to help others damn haters smh ignore them and thanks again

Stay tuned.

hey i know your vids are to help you get better at basketball but most people watching your vids are teenagers probably in middle school or high school trying 2 get better to make there school's team like me so i was thinking that you guy's should make a vid specifically pointing things that might impress your coach just a suggestion since you guys have an actual basketball coach
datguyreggie1 1 year ago
@datguyreggie1: reggie, as a coach, the things that impress me and any other coach you will come across, is solid fundamentals and an aptitude for the game. Essentially, these are things that are in your control now. I recommend that you keep working really hard on these two parts of your game. BTW, you might find it interesting that our SS supporters cover a really wide spectrum of people, especially BB adults. Thanks for your suggestion and stay tuned.

I'm enjoying your videos. They're concise but not too technical. Explanations are spot on and easy to understand also.
Thanks

hey coach watchin let me see a lot of errors that i was missin up at but. what happen if you shoot at the middle part of the square
gskin04 2 years ago
gs: Anytime you have the ball in "The Box" it is exposed to the defense.

Hey Coach i have a question how can get my shot of quick and accurate because when i play the defense always close me down fast which gives me no time on the ball.
somaliland9009 2 years ago
Please check out our video on "Creating Space". Another thing to remember is that the defense is most vulnerable when they are closest to you. Keep your dribble alive and attack them.

Hello Shotscience,
My question for the Ask the Coach Contest is: What should you do when you are surronded by many offensive players and there is nobody to pass to? Any recommendations? I always get cornered to the edge of the court, the corner and then I cant drive because my back is facing the audience and cant turn around because of so much offensive pressure?
What should I do? What should I do to stop being cornered and being forced to pick up the ball?
Thanks coach!
darkwiz999 2 years ago
This is a great question! There are several things that come into play here and we'll have a video on it in the future. For right now, it is important to remember not to pick up the ball near the half-court or along the sidelines. When you do this, you effectively add a new line of defense for your opponents. A second point is that you have to be aware of the defense and not let yourself get corralled in. Make your move before they get there. Hope this helps for now! More to come!!

sometimes at school I'm afraid to take shots Im not sure why I am really confident at home and um also is it okay to practice on a 7ft hoop?
seahawk649 2 years ago
Check out Chase's "Mental Rehearsal" video. It will help you prepare for tough competition. As for the short hoops, I would stick with the regulation height, if at all possible. If you're not able to, work your way up!

By the way, can you post videos about the wrist movement? Some said snapping the wrist is the best way to get the backspin, others said it's bad since it is a bad, stressful movement.
Thanks.
PhirePhax
phirephaxL 2 years ago
Phire:
A video on wrist follow thru is due up soon. We feel that a snapping of the wrist is not such a good idea. Wrist follow thru, yes! We like to see the follow thru be a relaxed wrist to create less spin on the ball. We call this "The Flop" or relaxed follow thru. We will explain the reasons for this in an upcoming video. Try this out and watch how soft the ball is on the rim and the ball stays around the basket on missed shots.
ShotScience 2 years ago
did you guys post this video cuz i cant wait. snapping my wrists gets me airball so i really need a alternative.
SanskritZ 2 years ago
Sans: We did post this video. I am assuming that your ball is short as the reason for the air ball. If so, the usual reason for this is that we have not used enough leg power. This is the most common reason for short shots. The wrist flop or snap is not a major part of the power and we don't believe that it should be. Explain in video soon to be up. We have a video on youtube re: how to use the legs. Please go there and see if this helps you.
ShotScience 2 years ago
Thank you so much i respect you guys cuz your the only people who reply to questions learners ask. Subbed forever! :)
SanskritZ 2 years ago
Shotscience, you still didn't answer my question. I commented you in your channel. Thanks.
Keep it up. :)
phirephaxL 2 years ago
phirephaxl: The arc is good!!!
Thanks for your question.
