  • glad to see Engine 51 still running im only 20 years old but every change i get i watch the T.V show and i love it

  • i could almost believe thats not the engine it looks like it but they made alot of those kinds we had the same thing siting our station so i dont see the proof the only part i saw was the front of it heck you could be telling a lie as far as i know

  • what ever happened to the first engine 51 from the first couple seasons? The one with the open air cab

  • I'm an E51 and "Emergency!" fan, and looked at the engine in this video, and then the engine used in S1E2....and I can't see the similarity, sorry. The window size is different, for starters.

Anyone care to offer a link to the explanation?

  • I remember catching a glimpse of this truck behind the doors of the barn in 1989. Thanks for sharing and allowing us to see it once again.

  • @ barmtrail it's back with the squad and the crown... There in the starting of the refurbish stage..

  • There's a conference/vacation/retreat center near Estes Park, Colorado, called YMCA of the Rockies. It has its own small fire station. I was delighted to see "E51" printed on the side of the fire engine. Must be a reference to "Emergency!" -- I don't know why else a department with only one engine would number it 51.

  • That engine was one of the best co-workers I had in Yosemite. Always ready to go. I am so proud to say I got to work with it

  • is it cummins powered?? it sounds like one.

  • Now that's a tight fit, haha!

  • It's finally back with squad 51 were it belongs

  • @Cgatto01 Is the engine back with the squad now? I didnt hear that. Well if its true that is damn good news!

  • I have video of the new engine 7, a pierce, and i'll upload it tonight or tomarow.

  • Before Optimus Prime, there was Engine 51.

No need to transform, just play the heroic role.

  • didn't the Engine from the TV show have a Gumball on top??

  • no siren ???

  • I actually climbed all over this engine as a kid. It did a "tour" of sorts when it was brand new and on its way to California for the show. I still remember sitting in the brown leather driver seat....

  • i just got the code 3 Emergency! engine 51

  • I forgot to mention that Ward LaFrance donated this to the Studio, Not LA County.

Engine 60 (The Crown) was actually in service at that time. When they got the new 73, they no longer had to tie up a real engine for the show!

  • It is indeed the real Engine 51!

The first Engine 51 was really Engine 60 and belonged to LA County, it was a 1965 Open Cab Crown Firecoach, Then in 73 Ward LaFrance DONATED this 1973 Ward LaFrance P80 Ambassador triple-combination pumper. Made in Elmira Heights, NY

  • This is one of them used in the tv show. It was leased to them for around a couple hundred dollars until 2012 they changed the lightbar because of the garage. They have a newer pierce now. They returned it last year.

  • @fireheadquarters It was donated to the LA county fire museum i believe. I got to see this rig pull out and respond to a call a couple of years ago.

  • why is the fire dept garage so small my garages bigger!! lol =P

  • Thats the only truck in there, and its been there sence the 1930's when engines were small

  • I've seen the Dodge squad 51 truck in the Peterson Automotive museum in L A. I have a recent video of the actual fire station 51 on my site titled "Fire Station 51", many are enjoying it and I hope others will too, it hasn't changed much and is still in use.

  • Thats not engine 51. the real engine 51 didnt have a light bar it had just a tear drop light on top.

  • Yes it is really E51. Somewhere on the net a few years ago I read that the teardrop light got destroyed shortly after E51 went to Yosemite, and had to be replaced with a light bar.

  • it got ripped off while backing into a storage shed i heard.

  • my station still has one of those engines

shes faster than our 1990 pierce dash and shes our 2ed out for structure

  • u baught it from the tv show seires

  • beuatifull truck i love these engines

  • beautiful truck

  • Does anyone know why they cancled the show, i loved it

  • @FirefighersKid01 They Killed The Show To Make Room For A Second Seaon Of Bionic Woman

  • no more stories to think about

  • dispatch: "Engine 51, your needed at yosemite valley for display purposes"

    Captain: " Engine 51 10-4 KMG 365"

  • Its good to see the old engine. My grandpa worked at Ward La France when they built it and he told me some stuff about it. Its hard to believe that the truck was built five minutes from where I live and was on such a great tv show. Thanks for posting this.. good to hear its going to get restored.

  • The original E51 has been used in Yosemite Park Valley for the past 21 years, until August 2008. It has subsequently been sent to the LA Co. Fire Museum for restoration. Originally the truck had the single "bubblegum" rotating beacon. Several modifications were made, including the side floodlights and the Jet Sonic light bar on the cab to improve warning visibility. These modifications were carefully made so that they could later be removed to return E51 to original appearance.

  • I just saw E 51 (the ward) in Pomona CA on 28 feb. 09 at the Crown fire enthusiast event. It is in very good condition for its age and should be a relatively easy restoration. It is also in the custody of the LAcoFD fire museum now, I have come to know a few of the museum guys and I'm confident its in good hands.

  • @seademons Actually, the JetSonic lightbar was installed because of the roof/door clearance of the building used for the fire engine, at least that's what Dave told me when I spoke to him one time when I called several years ago.

  • @seademons thanks for the info loved it

  • i dont remember Eng. 51 having a full lightbar. i only remember the single "bubble gum" light

  • I know starting 1984-85L.A. County Fire Department started ordering new rigs that had bar lights (starting with Van Pelt and Seagrave pumpers then eventually other pumpers and ladder trucks that were NOT cab over). Also in that time the pumpers that still had a number of years of service still ahead were taken aside and had bar lights installed including Ward La France,Crowns and American La France. This change was apparently done on a nation wide level for ALL departments throughout the country

  • Yep. In Buffalo, the last rigs ordered with the Beacon Rays were the 1987 Pierce Arrows and the 1988 Simon-Duplex/LTI tractor drawn Aerials.

  • Take that back. Guess it's just a copy. According to the EmergencyFans website, the actual truck IS used in Yosemite.

  • Do they have a replica of sqaid 51 like that also?

  • I'm sure it was a replica now. It had number 51 printed on the front, which the original Ward did not. And I have not seen it parked in front of the house I first saw it at anyway.

I am bummed it is no longer in Yosemite. I will be up there next week and was looking forward to paying it a visit. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the LAcoFD museum sometime.

  • Was driving upto my sisters house here in San Antonio Heights, CA and was floored when I passed by a home that has the engine 51 parked outside. It's owned by a fireman I believe. I grew up with this show, so it was cool to see the truck after all those years.

  • nice bay. your station a home? I have seen a few of those house fire stations they look interesting.

  • i think someone owns it. its out of service

  • i remember this engine my dad was the engineer for yosemite engine 7

shes slow though but alot of fun

  • Oh man they got the old rig still around huh? Thats great they would keep it all detailed and clean. Thank you for uploading this!!!

  • is this at a fire house

  • sweet!

    A classic WARD-LaFRANCE ,vintage '72.

They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Is this bitch gonna pull out?... or what!

  • Hey I am glad they took such good care of it.

  • It was introduced to the show at the beginning of season 3

  • I have heard that when this truck is retired that it's being refurbished back to the way it was when it was used on the show.

  • yep! This was one of the engines in Emergency 51. Remembere when it was their "new" engine.

Just wish i could have seen it driven one last time in this video. i'm glad it will be retired to the museum where i can see it later.

    thanks!

  • The original Engine 51 was an engine by Crown, with the open cab. This was the "new" engine introduced in either season 2 or 3. I was able to convince Dave, the head of YCS security, to pull the engine out of the station. I'll have to post something with the engine in motion soon - stay tune. Any movement beyond the station or activating the siren/lights outside seems to cause a disruption to other activities in the valley, since the FFs that man 51 have other job assignments nearby.

  • Thanks. Looking forward to it.

  • We use to have a couple of the old Ward laFrance on my fd. They were the best.

  • That's fucking werid!

If you watched Emergency! at all you would know.

Seasons 3-7 LA county Engine 51 was the same truck!

  • This IS the very same Engine 51 you moron.

  • Wow you're nice.

  • Thank you.

  • It has been announced in June of 2008 that the Ward LaFrance will be retired from active duty at Yosemite by the end of July 2008, and per terms of an agreement between the Park and the County of Los Angeles Fire Museum Association, the museum will assume ownership and add the Ward LaFrance to its collection.

  • Here is another video of old Engine 51 on You Tube:

Yosemite Fire Dept sets up landing zone

  • so once shes retired i suppose shell get her old beacon and markings back before being sent off to LA County, right?

  • Can you PLEASE try get a video of this truck responding to a call with its Q blasting for all its worth before the rig's retired? I don't imagine they get too many calls out there.

  • Im sure the Q will be screamin at her homecoming party!

  • this truck was up on ebay a emt was selling it in la the post was tanken down has fast as it went up i did down load the pics on it though it still has this bar light that he was not selling on this truck. i had thoght that the la fire department would have wanted the truck back after the lease for the museume

  • They do. ITs going back with the old engine 51and squad 51. They would nev sell it. Plus, its the LACOFD not the LAFD.

  • Any Relation to Emergency!?

  • DUde u r the best! that was the best show ever. They need 2 remake it. Itll never b as good as the orginal tho!

  • It's great to see her again...

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks for the vid.

    The engine still looks great!

  • During our visit on May 30th, DNC (current operator) received approval to purchase a used replacement engine from Pa. E51 will be headed to LACOFD upon delivery. I felt honored to capture a few photos and a little video to share.

  • So E-51 is coming home soon? I thought the contract wasn't up until 2012.

  • Yes. Engine 51's (currently DNC-7) time in Yosemite is nearing an end. Evidently it had been requested to be returned many months ago but DNC had to get funding approved for a replacement engine. At the time of this video they had located a use replacement engine somewhere in PA; however, that engine is slightly larger than E51 and will require enlarging the firehouse. They started taking measurements abruptly at the conclusion of my video to make the modifications.

  • Do u k where in PA the replacement is coming from!

  • The Replacement Engine for the Ward will be coming from Feasterville, which is located in Bucks County, just 3miles from the Philadelphia border. It is a 1992 Pierce Dash or Saber with a 500 gallon tank. It was formally know as Engne 1-2. It is a very nice truck and it will serve the park very well.

  • It will. I just wondered because the town that i live in PA had a pumper 4 sale.

  • Is Feasterville getting a replacement, for E1-2 then?

  • Feasterville has already had a replacement for the last 2 1/2 years. It was a Pierce Dash they replaced it with.

  • Finally a video of Engine 51 !! Great to see they are keeping it in good condition. Soon it will be brought back to the LACOFD Museum to be with squad 51.
