Even with the practical difficulties of executing a clean low kick on such a large surface area,there is nothing wrong with using your instep or even the ball of the foot to execute a low kick if and when the occasion demands it .
hes using a freaking large pad to kick. his instep is always going to make contact with when hes kicking it. try kicking a pad that large and only make contact with your shin!! so many pro's on youtube its amazing...

this dude cannot even do a right kick.. train the correct way to kick first before u train techniques and speed.. or else u end up breaking ur legs dude..
dont be so hard on him. i would focus on straightening both legs out extending them longer to avoid hitting with the foot at that range. an easy correction. i would be more concerned with the flicking hand set ups with open fists. if you are going to throw those, they need to have power other wise, youre going to get countered before the kick even arrives, or youre opponent will just close down and defend both hands and legs kicks making your low kick ineffective.

I do NOT understand why people think that the only way to train is to clinch your teeth and try to kick as hard as you can...There IS different types of training and you're ignorant to think you know all there is - and to disrespect a highly skilled martial artist is just degrading to yourself.
