TAG(East) - Tactical Assault Group East [consisting of 1st and 2nd Commando (Cdo) Regiments and Naval Clearance Diving Team(CDT) specialising in domesticcounter-terrorism operations].
TAG(West) - Same as TAG(East) but with SASR Troopers instead of Cdo.
JTAC - Joint Terminal Attack Controller (Air Force Special Forces)
ADF - Australian Defence Force
The Groups belong to Special Operations Command Australia (SOCOMD(Aust)).
@CoolioDudeee The ADF is the Australian Defence Force, that covers Army, Navy & Air force. The SASR is the Special Air Service Regiment which is the most elite part of the ADF. The SASR is almost impossible to get into, the level of mental/physical abilities is unbelievable. Look on the Defence Jobs website to find out how to get into the ADF, but theres nothing on there about the SASR, thats only open to current serving personal of the ADF.
Just save the argument. The Americans are going down hill with there soldiers. I don't know if its to do with there training or morale. Everytime I have come back from operatons over the last few years I am see a big decline on the skills of the basic soldier right up to the special forces. I am basing this on experiance and what I have seen and operated with. I can't comment who is the best as I have served in two Armys.

SAS, SASR, 4RAR, NZ SAS, 1SFOD, ST6, GSG9 and all the other Allied Special force's teams are the best - Some may be better equiped but as long as there all willing to help and are all fighting toward's the same goal they are all Equaly the best.

@chrisbest1000 ADF = Australian Defense Force... by saying the ADF in general, you are talking about all the branches off the ADF - navy, army and air force (in that order), navy - Aus SBS, Australian SASR and the 76 navy units based around Australia.
Army - 4RAR CDOs, SASR, TIG (although normally police) and the 52 army units based around Australia.
Air force - Australian SASR and the 48 AF units based around Australia.

Infantry is mandatory

The reason why is in CDO and SASR you are elite infantry but you are still infantry and they dont want to wast time teaching basics when they should be getting troops that have already gone to infantry school

after that you go forth and do a few weeks of lovely tests. think the well known BUDS week of navy seals, etc etc etc.
SF typically has a very good logistics system, so they can use specific weapons, tailored to a mission afaik. that's going well beyond my knowledge however.

You dont get selected to apply, you apply to attempt their selection course where they pass or fail you. Only thing is its extremely hard to pass the training
the Australian infantry standard weapon is the f88 AUSTYRE the commandos and SASR have the option between the M4 and the Styre they pick on what they prefer and what suits the mission objectives better confined spaces the m4 is prefered

The NZ SAS while very good hasnt done half as much as ours.
Our SAS being abit more public doesnt at all change there skills.
And our SAS also has around a year they can easily be returned to unit but anytime during there career if the higher ups arent impressed they can be kicked out. Same as most special forces around the world. Getting in doesnt mean you will stay in.

Was talking to an old Aussie war veteran a while ago and had to laugh when he said the only thing the americans were good for in battle was making to much bloody noise.

@chrisbest1000 ADF = Australian Defense Force... by saying the ADF in general, you are talking about all the branches off the ADF - navy, army and air force (in that order), navy - Aus SBS, Australian SASR and the 76 navy units based around Australia.
Army - 4RAR CDOs, SASR, TIG (although normally police) and the 52 army units based around Australia.
Air force - Australian SASR and the 48 AF units based around Australia.

@wever333 I am 100% right, i am in the army was infantry. yes a fighter piolet can go SASR one of my CO's was in the AF but he had to go infantry befor he could go SASR, also clearence divers are part of the SF but even then they still have to go infantry first, i know this cause my mate wants to go SASR and me and an ex CDO both said you first have to go infantry, i was thinking to try out for CDO and i also got the SASR requirements. Infantry is mandatory

@wever333 Its not crap mate, it is the truth maybe you should talk to who ever it was that claimed to be ex SASR and either ask again about infantry or see if he really way SASR or some other SF unit. even for direct CDO entry you still have to go through infantry school at singleton. The reason why is in CDO and SASR you are elite infantry but you are still infantry and they dont want to wast time teaching basics when they should be getting troops that have already gone to infantry school

@CannibalCorpse237 Fuck up idiot you obviously don't know what your talking about. it means the 4th battalion within the Royal Australian Regiment, there are currently 7 active battalions in the royal australian regiment, a regiment is a number of battalions...and that was obviously a typo, which i assume is what happened when you attempted to spell 'sense'. 4RAR left the RAR ORBAT in 2009 to become the 2nd Commando Regiment

to become special forces you have to be in the military and apply im pretty sure. Also SF use a range of weapons but the carbine is their rifle

after that you go forth and do a few weeks of lovely tests. think the well known BUDS week of navy seals, etc etc etc.
SF typically has a very good logistics system, so they can use specific weapons, tailored to a mission afaik. that's going well beyond my knowledge however.

You dont get selected to apply, you apply to attempt their selection course where they pass or fail you. You can even apply to be a direct entry into the Commandos straight out of civi street, if you dont believe me have a look at the ADF recruitment site and look up Commando, it will show you that you can apply to it lol. Only thing is its extremely hard to pass the training

The NZ SAS while very good hasnt done half as much as ours.
Our SAS being abit more public doesnt at all change there skills.
And our SAS also has around a year they can easily be returned to unit but anytime during there career if the higher ups arent impressed they can be kicked out. Same as most special forces around the world. Getting in doesnt mean you will stay in.
