  • I listen to her songs every day, when i read i imagine her voice reading to me, when i shop for clothes i want to dress like her. I cry every day wishing that we lived in a world with as much love and happiness as Karen gave to all of us.

  • Gone too soon. We miss you, Karen!

  • Every time you see a rainbow in the sky, think of it as Karen looking down upon us and smiling. God bless you Karen.

  • the best voice EVER!!!

  • Just beautiful.

  • This song just made me start crying. It is so moving and beautiful. Karen got to me again.

  • Beautiful girl, beautiful voice, I wish she could have seen herself as all of us saw her.

  • I'd like to welcome all the newer Karen fans. Those of us who are a bit older got to witness Her emergence onto the pop music scene, and realize immediately that The Lord had sent down an Angel of the highest order to walk among us and sing as we had never heard anyone sing before or will ever hear anyone sing ever again.Truly the most perfect female voice that will ever be.At 53,I cry like a child when I hear Her sing(the genius)Paul Williams' brilliant creation. She went home to sing for the Lord

  • Excellent song with a great singer!

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • I'm a Carpenters fan but have never heard this one, I'ts a great shame that it was not released earlier, I'ts a fantastic track with such clarity, we lost Karen was it in 1983? at a very young age however her legacy lives on in the music that she left behind, The Carpenters music is as fresh now as it was 30 or more years ago, The sound was unique and has not been produced by any other act/s since, I never tire of listening to their style of music, credit to the creator of this video, Thank U

  • glad he released it cracking version of the song just as good as kermit the frog

  • Thanks for your supremely thorough comments in the description! And thanks for the vid.

  • FINALLY!!!!

I had found a better singer for this song than Kermit!!!!

    NICE SONG!!!

  • love their songs...i ever used one for children's concert:)

  • double rainbow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A real gem. The Voice Of An Angel !

  • What a beautiful version of this song. Thank you Richard for releasing this song for the fans who still miss the your sister's warm voice.

  • I hope you found the rainbow connection, Karen :(

  • This gave me chill bumps and put tears to my eyes. <3

  • Ive been a fan for 30+ years and I had no idea this song was recorded. Wow. I'm amazed.

  • whoa..never knew Karen Carpenter did a rendition of this before...it's beautiful. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • Thank you for putting this on here. "Rainbow Connection" is my all time favorite song, it's just simply beautiful. But, I had no idea that there was a recording done with Karen Carpenter, the voice of an angel. Her sound is one that can never, and will never, be heard again. I love this. I have said at my funeral (I know, that's sorta a dark subject) that I wanted this song played, now I know that I want Karen singing it.

  • in addition, You're Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore (which also did not make the album) was released by Rudy and the Romantics in the 1960s, and they also recorded Hurting Each Other .... Made in America is one of my favorite albums!

  • I always felt that, during the planning process for Made in America, Richard wanted to return to what worked for Carpenters in previous years. Those Good Old Dreams is reminiscent of Top of the World; Because We Are in Love is a wedding song on par with We've Only Just Begun; Somebody's Been Lyin' is a Bacharach tune (as was Close to You); Beechwood 4-5789 is a Marvelettes oldie (as was Please Mr. Postman) - this song, while not on the album, is certainly remindful of Sing

  • Just beautiful... brought tears to my eyes. Thanks very much for posting.

  • Sigh...this is just sublime.

  • Sigh...................

  • Sigh...................

  • There's nothing she couldn't sing ... every tune magical! Yes, her voice is timeless ... I'll never tire of her. You went home too early, Karen, but live with us forever in your songs!

  • OH MY GOD, ITS SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • God took Karen to heaven so He could learn how to sing.

  • her death was so tragic and needless. The moron "doctor" who treated her anorexia is the reason she died. Stupidity and lack of understanding anorexia was the same as a loaded gun. Her voice was a gift to the world and it was stolen from us. It makes me sad.

  • great video, to a song that couldn't sound better if sung by angels, O wiat, it was sung by an angel. thank you for including in the description, although no one will ever know the whole story, there are so many who know so little, and so thank you for sharing the lessons... very diplomatic and discreetly put 'an album she decided to shelve at the urging of A&M' I think. A drummer sings & gives angels wings, blessings!

  • Inolvidable Karen we love you for ever !

  • There are no words to describe her voice...

If God is a woman She has Caren Carpenters voice...

  • karen carpenter has a beautiful voice but i like kermit the the frogs version better lol

  • I happened upon this from another link.

    Beautiful and touching.

    Thank you.

  • I was in love with Karen when i was growing up. I had no idea how sick she was. It broke my heart when she passed. I'm 54 now and am still in love with her.

  • @Wilie56 Me too

  • a sweet song sung by the sweetest voice of all.

  • This is a good performance. I rather like the olde worlde touches too - a bit jazzy which is something Karen does well. A work lead you say? I hope that nobody put too much more work into the vocal sound (listening Richard?) because that natural timbre of Karen's voice was what made her what she was.

  • I have always admired Karen (and will always do!). She is one of my all-time favorites. They (The Carpenters) made music the present music scene can only dream of. Especially their projects with Burt Baccharach produced some rare but extremely beautiful songs!

  • I did not know this song yet. Thank you for letting us listen to this wonderful song!

    Karen is the best!

  • @NedNickerson2010

What was the footage from The Huntington Gardens from?

  • @cienh2o That was taken from Karen and Richard's video for their song, "Only Yesterday," which can also be seen here on YouTube.

  • Dreamy....Beautiful! Rainbows hold so much magic...I want to find myself a rainbow.

    Karen Carpenter - you're beautiful!

  • Gentle & beautiful! Let's keep Karen's memory alive!

  • beautiful voice

  • God loves good music. He has Jimmy, Janis, Elvis, John, Buddy, Stevie Ray & Karen. All taken from us before their time.

  • This song is quirky and yet very appealing.

  • I hope she found her rainbow.

  • wonderfull song!i love dz song.

  • i prefer the version of kermit the frog, that one is the original.

  • This is my favorite, nobody sings it like Karen Carpenter.

  • This song always breaks my heart.

  • i was in the third grade when i sang this song in my chourus class.even then it touched my heart.

  • She was my favorite singer when I was growing up. I could hardly wait for a new Carpenter album to come out. I thought she was beautiful. This song just reminds me of how much I miss her. The first concert I went to was a Carpenter one. Sigh.

  • Our theme song in fifth grade. LOL.

  • thanks for posting this. didn't knw karen this existed till now. yes, amazing vocals as always!

  • bravo wonderful artist

  • reminds my younger years when im still lad thanks for the memories karen wish i can be a kid o once more 70 s is the best part of my life thanks karen

  • may God bring you into the soul of his heart Karen and brother. Kassi Ydris.

  • This does have strings, brass, backing vocals and banjo on though! ?

  • @ThonColinFilms Those were added when Richard completed the recording - 20 years later.

  • @NedNickerson2010

Rainbow Connection was very much my daughters childhood theme song, of course her version included Kermit the Frog.

I played this for her yesterday, not only has she enjoyed this offering from the incredible duo of Karen & Richard Carpenter, but she has tied up my computer going thru every Carpenter offering available on youtube in past 24hrs.

Thank you so much for posting this so we can all enjoy.

  • @IrishLinB your daughter has great taste!

  • @No1KCfan6

The real Rainbow Connection is my daughter was born on 2/3/83 (day b4 the world lost K.Carpenter) after telling everyone for months name choice for a girl was Alexis, after she was born, out of the blue, her Daddy decided she looked & sounded more like a Karen, so we gave her that handle for life. Guess stranger things have happened, but I do know in 1983, the name Karen resurfaced as a top contender for newborn girls.

  • love her...always did...always will

  • You are so missed ....

RIP - you Karen have served us well - thank you and I believe we will see you on the other side of the rainbow connection

  • I always love how every artist that sings the Rainbow Connection makes it their own. This particular version is one of my favorites simply because of how straight forward and beautiful it is, alot like the original sung by Jim Hens- sorry, I mean Kermit the frog. Karen was an amazing, and extremely talented individual who didn't just sing a song, she also felt the lyrics, made them a part of her. There are very few artists like that today who can do that.

  • Her voice was a conformation of something larger than just a musical idea. It gave you the idea of a higher force.

  • Karen, we're so thankful to God for creating a masterpiece like you. You lived your life so short, but your life, though not so perfect, has inspired millions of people all over the world. And every time we'd see a rainbow above the sky, we'll remember how colorful life has been while you were still here...and even until now :)

    I love you Karen :)

  • ☂九州、大分もよく降った雨、まだ虹は見れそうもないナ!~カーペンターズ~一番好きな"レインボウ・コネクション"☂

  • Wow, that's really beautiful.

  • I've just discovered this beautiful song on the new Rolando Villazon album La Strada and came to Youtube to see if anyone else had recorded it....what a surprise to discover Karen had.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! Until today I had NO idea the late great Ms Carpenter had recorded a version of this classic tune. She is one of my all time fave female singers. Such a unique talent...truly the voice of an angel. Her millions of fans still miss her very much. This version is VERY charming. THANK YOU for posting it..and especially for giving us that fascinating background info about the song. CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • wow...

a beautiful rendition of one of my all-time favourite songs. and a great video too!

finding this really cheered me up today. thanks!

  • aGHGH yeaaah sss ooh yeah DOUBLE RAINBOW lol couldn't help myself but seriously love this song thanks Kermit!

  • Why did she dislike this song? This was the song on koi ga shitai drama that really got me into listening Karen Carpenters songs. I can never get tired of listening to it.

  • What a beautiful voice...

  • This is my favorite song with my favorite female singer singing it.

    It's indeed magic.

Thank you so much for the upload!

  • There must be a reason why Karen didn't like this song.

  • She's been gone a long time. Still miss her

  • I grew up on the Muppets and love the original version done by Kermit. In the YouTube search for the song I heard Willie Nelson's version. But, this version is going to have to knock Kermit off the top of my ratings. Sorry Kermit, but this version is absolutely beautiful.

  • One of the best singers of all time!

  • she has a golden voice

  • voice of an angel <3 <3

  • 私の一番好きなカーペンターズの曲、レインボー・コネクション!~~恋がしたい!恋がしたい!恋がしたい!~岡江久美子様

    I still love you Karen!!!!!!!!!!

With that beautiful voice I know you have found your rainbow!!!!!!!

  • I miss you, Karen.

  • i think she is the only singer that doesn't have to whistle or engage into head tones and falsettos and show so much skin(considering the era that she shone) just to be great!!!!

  • Oh my...the most fantastic tonal voice ever!...I miss her so very much.

  • Thanks so much for sharing this story. I was unaware of it. This song is hauntingly beautiful and is now going to be one of my fav Carpenters songs (there are MANY lol)

  • oh i gad 5 (; & that interstellar 1 though was good 4 dreams hell from other side of rainbow.

  • I love this song exactly as it is, including the Angels. It makes me think of those who have passed and have finally found what they have been searching for all of their lives. When I first listened to this the other day, it made me think of my beloved Mister Bear who was my companion dog who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on November 25, 2010. Thank you Karen for this song.

  • O my 28 yeras ago she passed on,

  • she made it her song

  • Karen Carpenter is a LEGEND. Nobody else can copy her, even Kermit the frog is no comparision to Karen Carpenter. We all love and miss you. May you rest in peace.

  • sobs...sobss.....

  • There are ALot of folks doing their best to sing and those very very few who have the God given talent to sing....Karen Carpenter was one of the very few who had that beautiful voice that could give you goosebumps. She died way too early in her life. I love this song especially...no one can touch her version. God bless Karen!

  • We love you Kermie....R.I.P

  • This song is so beautiful, and this is by far the best version. Karen Carpenter was so talented and beautiful, but she sadly couldn't see that for herself.

  • Her voice is so beautiful! Too bad she couldn't beat her anorexia, otherwise she'd probably still be with us :(

  • I LOVE THIS SONG - She has the most beautiful voice I believe I've ever heard... ever!

  • I prefer Kermit's version.

  • @34hedgehog

you'll hate the version of i first and gimme gimme

  • There will never be talent like Karen Carpenter ever again. Karen Carpenter should not be dead. I miss Karen Carpenter

  • it's downright bizarre that something this perfect could be a scratch vocal. karen carpenter is truly mind boggling.

  • Ecco come cantano gli angeli!!!

    R.I.P.

  • Karen is one soul I look forward to seeing in heaven.

  • @Aliendear And thats just where you will find her, God said when I asked Him to tell her we all love and miss her: SHE KNOWS.

  • angelic voice...

  • Her song is from THE MUPPET MOVIE

  • @DannyLovesOregon I remember that movie. I was really sick from a bladder infection and my brothers took me to see it thinking it would make me feel better but I don't remember half the movie. I ended up in the hospitla later. If I am not mistaken in was in either 1978 or 1979. What memories. Ironically John Denver did some shows with the muppets and he's died now.

  • I didn't know too much about People during that time, only God knows to every answer

  • double rainboiw across the across

  • RIP Karen

  • Im so obsessed with this song. Her voice is so beautiful <3

  • @StrawberryRaindrops She was born perfect.

  • Thanks to Richard for releasing it...AND more important, for all of his wonderful arrangements...the most spectacular, (though just one to mention) the Carpenter's Christmas Album--my favorite all time Christmas Album.
