  • This was so left field, it's so right. Look at all the content of the video and topics..all VERY talked about in the current stream RIGHT now on youtube. Amazingly perfect. oh and @ 0:21 the zodiac is from the cover of the AMAZING book "the round art" by A.T. Mann.

  • notice that rocket ship hitting the tower o.O

truth is still outta style, but Mark will never be

  • I want that scary puppet!

  • I'm a HUGE fan of PE, the Beasties and NWA and yet THIS is the one song I can recite word perfectly every time... why is that?

Because the rap is so damn perfect, that's why!

Oh, MC 9-0-0, where the hell are you? Rap needs a voice like yours!

  • isnt this from the eighties

  • Straight up old skool funk, in my opinion. I love it, I replace his name with mine and get all pumped up!

  • Bassline from Weather Report's "cucumber slumber"

  • looks more like annete bening

  • cant say this mc does much for me really, after this song i mean, like he starts off taking a LONG 2 minutes or whatever saying how amazing he is and that he knows all and beholds the truth ye ye ye. and then one thing he mentions thats worthy of his 'big up' was the whole you create your own reality, which im sure we all know anyway(those of us with more than half a brain cell) but yeh sorry fans but there are sooooo many better hiphop artists than this chum. the instro is alright though

  • @oli0880 He's not really an MC, he just has a few songs that integrate some hip hop elements. This is one of them.

  • @pyenapple i checked out some of his other stuff and i know what you mean. guess i was fooled by the title of his name, MC 900 but obviously not. and after listening to freestyle fellowship and mfdoom i was expecting some raw and deep shit to go down! but this material is much different.

  • @oli0880 MF Doom is amazing. Did you like his old crew KMD? "Mr. Hood" is one of the best albums of 1991, and that's saying A LOT. But yeah, I'd say it's best to think of MC 900 as a jazz player who happens to love all music and incorporates just a trunkful of different styles into his stuff. Did you check out the entire "Welcome To My Dream" album? There's some incredible sick instrumentation on that album, it's really visual if you're sitting and listening to it at night. :)

  • @oli0880 that's just your opinion asshole

  • @oli0880 I think he hits the nail straight on the head. I hardly know anyone who will see the sense exposed here. Also, at the beginning he is using "God" and himself as interchangeably metaphoric I think. Which is very clever. However, if you could recommend those other hip hop artists that would be awesome. Honestly. Also, do you listen to other styles of music?

  • @oli0880 I think you see generally what he's saying but you don't know how it relates to your life on a second to second cognitive basis. Everybody claims to understand, but most people don't. Even people who care and are free from their apathy don't get it. It really is simple but it is so simple, that when someone is confronted with understanding it they complicate the situation with "complex schemes". Fact is, its impossible to describe this unless your mind is open and yearning.

  • @LAdelle24 yeh, i completely agree.. theres that fine line between being intellectual and being a pretentious, over thinking (soon to be paranoid) fool. but you'll know for sure when which side you are on when you lose all preconceptions and prejudices, and all forms false skepticism. but we are always learning so theres never really a point where you can stop and say that your mind is pulp and pure with knowledge, self awarness plays a key role in that i think. and yeh openess and yearning too.

  • @oli0880 You totally miss the point. Rappers of the day were so full of shit and they still are. This is a hilarious satire on the state of rap & hip-hop. A lot of the genre is how good a bigshot, rapper, lover, lover beater, fighter, killer, cop killer... they are. It's all BS. Truth is out of style. Yes the music is "alright". Understand the lyrics.

  • @oli0880 He actually was an MC, complete with DJ - DJzero - and his"bigup" was not that we create our own reality, his point was that truth is out of style - creating our own reality was what he is fighting against in this song - so obviously you are among the perpetrators he is talking about...

  • @hustler3of4culture3 yeh.. i can see that, it literally says in the title 'truth is out of style'. nothing is obvious, you dont even know me, and im sure he wasnt fighting the fact that we all create our own reality, no, but against only those who make a mess of theirs.

  • @oli0880

sorry about calling you a perpetrator.

i think he is actually fighting the fact that we create our own reality, he is saying there is one objective reality and that there are many who would have us believe that reality is in the eye of the beholder, hence the "aint no half steppin" sample at the end.

  • @hustler3of4culture3 fair enough, youve took quite a lot of meaning from these almost guidline/catchphrase like lyrics! and this is a tricky topic, probably the trickiest of all, as its very hard to know where genuine truth lies.. i think the best way to get 'there', is to follow beauty, as in your 'heart, by that i mean all forms of expressing love and care, or any kind of thinking that takes you far from the ego. and of course with a good slice of logic and imagination, youll get to the truth.

  • @oli0880 I'm a HUGE fan of MC 900, yet I can fully understand how he's not for everyone. If you listen to a lot of his other stuff, especially from "Welcome to My Dream" on, his lyrics read almost like he spent a lot of time reading from abnormal psychology textbooks. Everything from pyromania, schizophrenia, psychosis (fairly common subject), antisocial personality disorder, among other disorders. His lyrics aren't intended to be taken seriously in any way and I love that.

  • @jasonmit Neither was DADA, but I still see double images in the work of one of its founders, Salvador Dali.

  • @davekeays Surrealism, not Dada. Dalí was a Surrealist.

  • Video failed the second the creepy puppet came on.

  • Fox News = We Report, You Decide has been replaced by TRUTH IS OUT OF STYLE

  • @boy2909 Like CNN is any better.

  • @ReverendSyn CNN is marginally better, but still Corporatist f*ckwits. Fox is a wholly owned arm of the corporatist right wing movement (not the true Republican Party of the past; Eisenhower *IS* rolling in his grave, there's no doubt about that.) MSNBC is likewise corporatist; they only have Olbermann on because he brings in the ratings, they don't give a crap about his politics, it's all about money. Honestly, the only real news is PBS NewsHour.

  • Yeah Weather Report, gelijk kijken of ik dat ding ergens kan downloaden, moet die computer maar gelijk aansluiten op stel joekels van Speakers

  • Love this guy!

  • @allgoraro Dig your Spacemen 3 pic.

  • Bad rapper my hind leg. This isn't "rap" for a start, nor in fact is Mark Griffin a hip-hop artist. He was, and is a jazz musician. And what did he give us? One of the greatest albums of the late 80s consisting of gospel, hip-hop, acid house, jazz and just plain of fashioned out-there weirdness. They don't make albums like this any more.

All rap gave us is a bad headache.

  • @DaveBowman303 I'll agree with your praise of Mark's music...but there's plenty of good rap and hip-hop out there. Start with Basehead "2000 BC" or KMD "Peachfuzz"...A Tribe Called Quest "Can I Kick It?" or De La Soul "Ring Ring Ring (ha Ha Hey)"... :)

  • @DaveBowman303 They DO make albums like this. That's the good thing. Hard to find, yes. But its there. Check out porcupine tree. Amazing band; Steven Wilson is a lyrical and musical genius. If you are fully open, check out Opeth. Mikael Akerfeldt. Amazing lyrics, and amazing musicianship.

  • wasnt this basslin also in a rage against the machine song?

  • "one step ahead of the spider" is the best album!!! truly

  • my fave mc900 song. relativism fashionista.

  • was that Glenn Beck???

  • was that Glenn Beck???

  • SLO'K made this video. Good job!

  • Amazing. Gotta love the internet and youtube.

    THIS brings back memoriessss.

Now I have to go find the group "Consolidated".

  • @DoobbysTaxiola I saw Consolidated play at LaLuna in Portland in 1993. "Tool And Die"! Ha.

  • WOW its hard to beleive 89 was 20 yrs ago.LOL where does the time go.LOL

  • @angeldustxiii WOW, THANK YOU THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, I JUST LOVE THIS VIDEO AND BY THE WAY 89 IS A GOOD YEAR THAT'S HOW OLD I AM. THANKS FOR SHARING AND PYNEAPPLE, YOU'RE A WONDERFUL FRUIT, CAN'T GET ANY FRUITIER!!

  • The guy is a really bad rapper but the wocka-wocka funk is kinda good.

  • @williamherbert You're a really bad rapper...but your mom's wocka-wocka funk is kinda good.

  • Seriously? That's what you come back with? A "your mom" joke? Boo.

  • Yep. You're just mad because it's true.

  • You're just mad cuz your mom got no legs but she's still runnin your life.

  • @williamherbert yes he should rap

more about bitches, hoes, his money, ass

dropping, his car, rims and drugs. Then

    he would be good?

  • @williamherbert he is not a "bad rapper" his style is different, hes not trying to be like eminem or something, theres another album of his called "One step ahead of the spider: there is a good song called "If I only had a brain" he raps a relaly well in this song

  • @lemay1973 Cool man, I appreciate the constructive comment. I'll give both of those songs a listen. Thanks brother.

  • @williamherbert

he's just patient enough to wait for yall to catch up

  • @drpuki ha! okay, fair enough my man. :)

  • NWO

  • this actually got a decent amount of airplay by mtv back in the day.. found out the origin of the '900-ft jesus' name: just google oral roberts

  • Bush 41!

  • because da truth hurts ...lol

  • opening sample is from bill laswell's material

  • Actually no, it is cucumber slumber by weather report from the album mysterious traveler.

  • I stand corrected.

  • You're goin straight to Hell! Chased by a 900' Jesus.

  • Don't worry, be happy and have a nice day.

  • It may always have been but lying is getting more inventive...great music

  • truth has always been out of style

  • @vaf88 ha ha beautiful

  • where is mc 900? in an airplane?land and come back man we miss you. your funk is strong.

  • Last I checked, he's a DJ out in Dallas for some posh club now.

  • @snapdancer2 I heard a rumor a little while back that he's possibly working on a new album.

  • @snapdancer2 Check out the wikipedia page on him. He was playing/DJing at some bar in Dallas from sometime in 2007 up until the end of 2009 according to their calendar. Sure wish he'd give us some more albums! Genius.

  • @ShortyDammit Your wish might be granted. Keep fingers crossed. ;)

  • Great song! This is the secret to sucess in politics!

  • Way cool SLOK and Nettwerk!

  • Said it b4, but thank god for M.C. 9-0-0!

  • The real trip is that this video depicts the World Trade Center and a fast flying plane. Truth IS out of style. Google AE911Truth

  • really really great!

  • cant get enough of mr mc 900! Love love love it.

  • Anyone know who the hottie is?

  • Albert Einstein

  • a ginger. just a guess

  • LOL!

  • wow. could that video feel any more like the '90's?

  • I think it's more late-'80s. It feels a bit like "Liquid Television", the oddities & animation show that MTV used to air during its heyday. I miss MTV being challenging, and I think I'm not alone in that.

  • ah, yes. the '80's, that's it.

and i too think MTV sucks now. it used to be interesting... i think all it needs is another reality show. *eyeroll*

  • You're totally right, though; the late-'80s and early-'90s had a very interesting feel to it. This does feel like it could've been made in 1991. I was just thinking how lumping decades into arbitrary categories seems so false...not everything from 1980-1989 sounds necessarily similar. Anyway, yeah. MTV lost the plot hugely. Hahaha.

  • yeah, but lumping decades makes it easier for me to remember the year each song was made. :)

and i haven't watched MTV in probably ten years. i didn't watch it much before but now it's just not even tv. feels like webisodes, now. at least to me it does....

  • 3:28 9/11 prediction?

  • I think one stands behind the other

  • i know I'm not a blind.

    symbolically i mean.

  • Will somebody please post a copy of REAL BLACK ANGEL?????

  • Loved this album in college. I got to see him perform in a club in Atlanta, he tried to escape a straitjacket while his DJ cut up a version of Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle." Thank God for MC 9 0 0 (he sure can talk your ear off though).

  • Soo Thats Why Time Warner Signed so many Jackass Rappers too rap About Bullshit, Too Keep us dumb. Unlike Old True Hip Hop They Spoke of The truth.. Sad Huh?

ps. Time Warner is Owned by the Bankers. The ones who own all the world banks an chose too keep us dumb..

Peace Luv n LiGht too all in surch of Truth!

  • Thanks God for M C 9 0 0!!!!!

  • The first time I ever saw this was in college while on mushrooms. I had never heard of MC900 Ft. Jesus prior. My friends and I didn't think it was real. We were laughing our asses off. The next day, I bought the album.

  • the first time i heard this i was on mushrooms going through my parents cd collection, when they suggested that i listen to mc 900ft jesus. oh how they laughed at me and my mate for being amazed at them whilst totally high

  • truth is out of style

  • Check out the Space ship flying through the World Trade Center. MC900 Foot Jesus was a prophet.....And it's the Gospel Truth + + +

  • zzzombie69, I really hope you realize that what you saw was the Dallas skyline

  • I thought Truth was out of Style!

  • "(bass line sampled from Weather Report's Cucumber Slumber)"

Yes, but he has added an extra octave below by running it through a processor. Of course, it's hard to go wrong with anything from the Weather Report album Mysterious Traveler.

  • just enjoy the song and stop trying to analyse you moronic cocksucking tryhards

  • Pay...Pay...P-P-PAY ATTENTION!

  • Outstanding! I love me some MC 900 Ft Jesus!!

  • The Crypt-Keeper's nerdy brother!!!

  • wow someone should have played this during the 2008 presidential campaign!

  • I don't get it... I am a hip hop head and appreciate music with a message but I am having a hard time trying to decipher exactly what it is..

  • Hmmm...I'll take a wild stab at it and say MC 900 is trying to say that truth is out of style.

  • Sure, there were other rappers out there when he did this. But there were none other like him at the time. An Innovator. Granted, maybe not something you'd be humming, or quoting while fucked-up with your Homies... unless, of course, your Homies were articulate. ALWAYS show respect for the true Pioneers in anything.

  • Check out "While The City Sleeps".

  • I know a mother-fuckin' Bigfoot when I see one!

  • Is that you, tabb89k5???

  • No.

  • I know, it was a joke. That person made the same bigfoot comment as you, several months ago (see below). :)

  • Its sad how many people are so ignorant with what hip hop really is I am glad 90o never really went big cause he prolly woulda got dogged out by even bigger losers than what he is now. Lamers on youtube see ya!! keep sendin posts lettin true music lovers know how lame ya be ok. good video man could ya possibly find rat race, I think its called or job or somethin like that.lata blah

  • I think you're probably referring to "Adventures In Failure" off "Welcome to My Dream". Sadly, there was no video for it. I may try my hand at editing together a video, though.

  • He sounds like a rappin' Jello Biafra, at least in this number. Great album - I need to find another copy of it.

  • Keyboard riff is the same as KMFDM's 'Godlike'.

  • Nice hair.

  • "I know a muthafuckin bigfoot when I see one."

  • it's fucking with peoples heads. the way he's "beating around the bush" at first...typical attention grasping hypnosis inducing style there. then the weird story follows, kind of fantastic and almost a bit soothing, and the chorus, man..... whether we like it or not, to the subconscious mind, there's no such thing as irony or sarcasm. sad but true. so even if this is just for the lolz for most of you, beware. the video is also loaded with symbols and flickering images. something going on here...

  • Quick, call Alex Jones.

  • that's very funny, in a braindead sort of way.

nevermind alex jones. anyone who gets that much attention is likely to be one of those fevered egos tainting our collective unconscious. i wish people could just think for themselves, and question not only authority but also entertainment! AND conspiracy theories! a lot of them are no doubt LOADED with mind control programming.

  • Titrate up a bit, please.

It's symbolism. Weather it's mind control or not depends on the susceptibility of the subject(s) in question. I'm sure the intention in this case was to shift a few more units of MC 900 Ft. Jesus. You'll have to track down the artist(s) in question and debrief them.

  • Witty mother f^cker

  • mc 900ft genius more like!

  • MMMM.. TASTY' STEADY SUPER COOL GROOVE!!!

    f*CK YEAH!

(bass line sampled from Weather Report's "Cucumber Slumber")

  • Dont oryy, be happy, and have a nice dayyy!

  • MC 9-0-0 (Is this Howdy Doody?) is a really nice guy for passing on this 'EXCELLENT ADVICE'. However it seems he was almost gonna lose his cool at 2:34-38.

And looking back, evangelist Oral Roberts did end up being good for sumthin' if nuthin' more than the name!

  • this is histaricle~!

  • Chuckie's geeky brother?

  • I could not go to work because bigfoot stole my car LOL ROFL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i got this song at home nice vid.

  • Oh man, used to spin this in Detroit at ClubLand... that "Hell with the Lid Off" album was killer.

Still have this 12" along with "Killer Inside Me", "I'm going straight to Heaven"...

Fun days. Have an awesome slip mat that came w/the album - great artwork!

  • brilliance.. i have this on vinyl.. i cant believe this is almost 20 years old.. my god im a geezer.

  • DUDE!! Another long time 900 fan that has never seen this vid. I LOVE the Eddie Murphy sample from DILERIOUS after the line: Bigfoot stole my car......" I know a mother fuckin' Bigfoot when I see one" hehehehe...... classic

    Nice finds PYENAPPLE!!!!

  • Thank god for MC 9-0-0!

  • Mark is alive and well Dj'ing jazz at local clubs in Texas.

  • where in texas??

  • My how this seems appropriate during an election year! I'd say "Kudos" but I hate people who say that...

  • Oh my god!! I only saw part of this video once in 89, when I was still a kid! I was never able to get it out of my memory...PEACE AT LAST! Thank you so much, pyenapple.

  • awesome!!! who`s that "shirley mc l." in this vid? what a cuteee !

  • Hey thanks, I appreciate it !! Was the song not a big hit?

  • "Adventures in Failure"? It wasn't even a single. The only singles off "Welcome to My Dream" were "Killer Inside Me," "The City Sleeps" and, in Europe, "Falling Elevators."

  • Hey does anyone have adventures in failure? It's a wicked song, I can't believe nobody has even mentioned it. It's also known as afternoon adventure. Anyone who likes MC, or even if you haven't heard of them, should seriously listen to this song. It's boss. If they have made a video clip with this song, and somebody who knows what song I'm talking about, could you please post it? Thanks LOL.

  • It never had an official video. There's also the "Adventures In Failure Dub" on the "Killer Inside Me" CDsingle. If I get time, I'll try to make a video for it.

  • ...and "Cucumber Slumber" is a track by Weather Report from their 1974 album "Mysterious Traveller", by the way. No Bill Laswell here. :)

  • Love the "Cucumber Slumber" sample, even though it was unauthorized back in its day. Funny vid.

  • great stuff. Would also be keen to see 'born with monkey's asses' from the same album if anyone has it - one messed up but brilliant track.

  • AnutherAstroPlayyyyne

  • does anybody have "spaceman" from the same record? would be nice to see & hear it again.

  • I've got it. I'll see if I can think of a video to use for it...

  • thanx in advance.

  • Ironically, "Truth Is Out Of Style" is more true now than ever. Mark said it first. Cool song.

  • Is that a KMFDM sample, or does kmfdm use a sample in this song? Anybody know?

  • Which KMFDM song are you referring to?

  • i think the sample bass line comes from a track by "material", one of Bill Laswell's projects, from the "hallucination engine" album. sped up a bit on this track.

  • Nice one! I wouldn't've spotted that, good call.

  • LOL good video so what happened to me MC 990ft Jesus ?

  • sorry 900ft...

  • He DJ's in Dallas. I think someone mentioned it in the earlier comments if you want to go back and read for yourself.

  • Great that guys so fricking cool!

  • Look's like Chuckie has retired from a life of murder to the life of a nerd.

  • The aliens brought me back and beamed me down into this bar, but I could not go to work because Bigfoot stole my car.

  • Scary to see the puppet on his way to work around the 3:28 mark. Yikes! :(

  • Thank you SO much! My video copy is in bad shape, and I couldn't find this anywhere.

  • It's on the reissue/remastered version of "Hell With the Lid Off" that came out a few years back. There are bonus tracks, too. It's well worth picking up used on Amazon or wherever. :)

  • wow, yes. a gem.

  • Thank you pyenapple for posting. MC 900 Ft Jesus is one of a kind.

  • My pleasure! I wonder if Mark knows how many people still love his music, to this day?

  • This song reminds me of that game TOEJAM and EARL for Sega Genesis.........I loved that game!

  • This is the only version I've heard, but it brought back some memories. Does anyone else know wwhat the term "Hell With the Lid Off" means?

  • I always assumed it was a sort of "the crazies are escaping!" type of idea: that these madmen characters in Mark Griffin's brain that he's so fond of writing about have found full expression in his dark/scary music and, in that sense, escaped into culture as ideas. I'm just extrapolating.

  • Interesting thought, but not quite. I don't know where the term originated, but it refers to Pittsburgh, PA. When the steel mills were still running, the skies were sort of reddish gray and sometimes the ash in the air was thick enough to choke you, sort of like hell on earth. In Robocop, the factory scenes were filmed in an old mill in Charleroi, PA. There's your bit of worthless knowledge for the day.

  • Wow, the vocals are different from the album version.

  • Yep. They re-did the vocals for the single. There's a remix EP you can find for sale cheap, it has the single version (this version in the video), the 12" mania remix and the 12" mania dub version. Pretty awesome. As a matter of fact, all the MC 900 singles are quite great and worth tracking down.

  • I made the same observation. At first I had to consternate to make sure someone wasn't just trying to be cute. But you know, this video show's how MC 900 was far before his time. The first thing I thought of when I seen this video was, "Tim and Eric's Awesome Show, Good Job".

  • This is my theme song. The fact that there is a video for it now, official or not, means that my life is complete.

  • It's official. Taken from the reissue of "Hell With the Lid Off" a few years back. :)
