It's magic in myth humans can have babies with shape shifting foxes or the goddess of love can be formed from Kronos' penis. I don't have any problem with the fact that Meyers vampires can reproduce with humans I have problems with them for lots of other reasons though.

now that i think about it. you're very right. sparkling is rather pointless. or not; they can sparkle if they want. that will be like an add on. just give them something that reminds us that they are dangerous and have reasons to be feared. i prefer fangs too.

I just found two points. First, the folklore in which dhampirs are found predominantly says that vampires are invisible to humans. It's possible that they work like incubi, but I'd have to research that further.

Also, in Vampire the Masquerade, vampires can engage in sexual activities, but to temporarily give themselves a kick start, so to speak, costs what they gain from drinking blood. Since drinking gets the same high for most clans, they don't usually bother.

A film I reccomend is "Grave of the Vampire" which has a pretty decent 'dhampir' sub-plot.

I agree, changing some things about a mythic beast like a vampire is okay as long as they are somewhat accurate to their mythology or if you want to get rid of something in the myth like me with an idea about a werewolf superhero say that some of the myth is not true

personally i think that when stephenie says vampires are never changing it means edward kept his sperm from when he was human.

would you have liked stephenie's version of a vampire better if they weren't referred to as vampires but as something else (a made up creature)?

I think that it would have been easier to accept them as a whole new race of creature and that it would have been more creative. ^^
