I am a musician and I have been listening to rock and roll since i was ten. Useless to say how much I love Elvis - he got me into singing and playing guitar. But what you said is absurd. Think when buddy holly died he was just 20 and changed the music world forever. He might not have been the best guitarist on earth or sang as good as elvis, but YES he wrote his songs and determined a change not only in rockabilly but also in pop and rock history.

And Elvis was one of the boys in the army cept he lived off barracks.. Elvis was also a producer of music have you ever heard him when they are recording...no music training , all natural..Not many artists wrote their own stuff in those days...

This movie GI Blues was made after Elvis got out of the Army. A few scenes were shot in Germany before. Elvis returned to gf Anita Wood & affairs with his leading ladies including Juliet Prowse shown here. She was a little frosty, but Elvis thawed her out. She was also having an affair with Frank Sinatra so Elvis's entourage would yell out Frank was coming when Elvis was in her dressing room. One day it was Frank, but she said Frank didn't catch them, laughing and saying "Thank god!"

It was seeing Elvis perform in Lubbock, and Buddy and Bob Montgomery were Elvis's opening act once that made Buddy go from playing country to rock. They liked the music, but they also saw how the girls were dripping off Elvis, and thought "If this music attracts girls like that, we're getting into it." My mom said they lined for blocks for this film when it came out in her little home town. There was a bit of Elvis starvation around this time I suppose because his duty in Germany took him out of the showbiz loop for many months.

But I don't understand why G.I. Blues continues to rank lower amongst his other films. It's usually down the list in surveys I have seen over the years by Elvis fans. I think it's a good one - worthy of being at or near the top every time.
