I dont see any problem with giving a 14 year old a gun. You can see many familys especially out in the country revolving around guns and passing down the family shotgun or ect. But i feel in order to first the kid must be taught respect and gun saftey/control until they feel he can have complete access to firearms

One never knows what goes on behind closed doors, even the closed door to ones' heart. As to why his dad would by him a real gun, who knows. Maybe that's something they had talked about. Maybe they had outings where his dad taught him to shoot and felt that he was responsible enough only to use it to protect himself/family/home if he wasn;t there to do it. Really, who knows what prompted him to do such a thing. You don't hurt the people you love, maybe he was getting back at someone & panicked.

14 is not to young to have a gun. I was in the Boy Scoots and we learned how to use guns at an earlier age. All the people saying that 14 year olds do not have impose control are talking out out their asses. I remember when I was 14 and no matter what I would never think about killing my family. The father should be charged, if he's not dead. I don't think the teen should be charged as an adult. Yes, he may know right from wrong, but teens lack impulse control. They act solely on emotion. So when the father gave him that gun, it was basically teaching him that it's okay to react without thinking. This teen may have known that it was wrong to have the gun in the first place, but since an adult handed it to him this was telling him that wrong is okay.

What this kid did was wrong, and he should be prosecuted to the fullest, At the age of 14 he should have the common scene of what a gun dose to people. This is a disgrace and he should be given life imprisonment for his actions. I can understand if he shot 1 person on accident, but what he did is murder.

I personally was raised with respect for guns and knew how to handle, hunt with it, shoot and clean it by the time I was 10. In this report you do not mention where this happened. In some places it is common for younger people to own firearms.

In this instance I would say the child was not properly trained in the use of firearms to possess the respect needed for the responsibility. I would also think that the parents likely did not know the child well or they would have know better.
