  • Does ubuntu supports the Intel Quad core Q9550? Does it take advantage of all four cores or is it singlethreading?

  • So, I started the download, and it's a zipped file, so I am going to unzip it with winrar, where do I unzip it to? Does it matter? And how do I find the .iso file in it, just look for it I suppose lol. So after I unzip it, find the .iso, and burn it to a blank cd/dvd? Am I right?

  • Hey! I'm gonna move from this shitty Vista to Ubuntu, will there be an option for formatting the drive in the installer or do I need to do that before?

  • ubuntu will allow you to format the drive when you install, however, just realize that that will erase everything (including ur files) on the drive so make sure you have them somewhere else before you format it (flash drive, backup drive, another place pretty much)

  • i have a problem

when i insert disk and restart computer it doesnt come up it just loads windows xp

  • Try hitting the F12 button right as the computer starts up. This should bring up a menu to choose where to boot from.

  • f12

    and boot to cd

  • what ever ur using go to menu at boot and select whatever ur using as the 1st boot and put the linux on then load it up then will have an icon saying install then install it the it will guide throuch the installing process

  • Okay this is what to do.

    Reboot your pc enter Bios.

If you dont know your key for entering bios just press f1 until f12 at the same time.

It should come up, then select cd as boot first.

  • Thnkx that worked but i can nt able to view the videos on youtube when im using linux.

  • This what to do.

    Go to adobe flashplayer website.

    Go to download.

Select other os and select: .deb for ubuntu 8.04+

Or download the ubuntu restricted extras.

  • just get a thing showing what files it loads

    final line is:

    ---(end trace 4sd4d444f4dft)---

and then i got stuck there

    using microsoft Virtual pc

  • ubuntu is 697 mb, i had 700 mb disk

so lucky :D awesome tutorial mate. you really explain it efficently.

  • damn, im still doing this after 2 days!

  • when you install it does it copy over windows? and when you try it out..what happens?

  • Hello, I have a question? I just installed ubuntu but when I reboot I dont see the menu to bootup ubunto. It just loads xp pro automatically. Is this because I'm installing ubuntu on a partition that is less that 4.5 gb? Any other comment about this would be help.

  • Hey i had a quick question.

Apparantely during my illeterate process of installation, i have tried the wrong method of partitioning. now i am left with 400 GB of disk space that windows will not recognise... Is there any way that i can get back those space to windows without loosing my data and start the ubuntu installation all over again??? Please help

  • um, i am guessing you partitioned 400gb to your ubuntu install...windows will not recognize the file format of you linux partition...however; ubuntu will recognize your windows partition...may i suggeust you use the partition editor on the live disk to adjust the sizes of your partitions

  • Thank you so much for the post!!! you have solved the greatest misery of mine for the year 2008.

  • How much disk capacity do you need?

  • um, id say you would need about 8-10 gigs free (prob about 4 necesary for install) but you will want more space for your stuff

  • 4 necessary for install and that includes swap space

  • when it gives you the option to dual boot or only use ubuntu.

if you choose only use ubuntu it erases your files like you download?

like itunes, world of warcraft, stuff like that?

    plz resond

  • ummm...are you talking about when u install or when you are in the dual boot menu? cuz when you install you need to make sure it dosent overwrite your data, so probably go with the dual boot option...in the boot menu it is just asking what os you want to boot into

  • To determine the type of processor you got:

-Open the command prompt by typing cmd in the run box

    -type in "set" (without quotes)

-at the top it will say PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE and whatever is next to that is what you got

  • i did that, and it came up with x86, but my possessor is a amd athlon 64 x2

  • btw infrarecorder is free non trail - its full version

  • Hey Did you uploaded the Video for shrinking the XP disc to install Ubuntu please give me the links

  • guys, to install on a PC, download a program called UltraISO, download the trial version, and once installed, run it and go to the top tabs and go to Tools>Burn CD/DVD Image, and then clik on the Ubuntu Iso Image then brun it to a CD/DVD at the lowest speed, which should be 4X

  • get infrarecorder... its great and if you go to the ubuntu site documentation it tells you to use it and gives you a link... it works great

  • Good video bud.

  • I downloaded the second option that it gives on the ubuntu website but it seems different

    these are the two options:

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition - Supported to 2011 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition - Supported to 2013

I downloaded the second one but I don't know how to use it; it only gives me letters but I don't know how to get onto my computer I think I should have downloaded the first one....

  • hello? can anyone tell me how the heck I can use ubuntu as my main os, nope, not dual boot.. just the ubuntu... cuz all the instructions I see are about dual booting and stuff

  • hey man, i dont mean to be rude, but its not that hard to figure out. install everything the same way, just when you get to the partitioning, just say use the whole drive instead of creating new partiitons and such- then it will be just ubuntu (will distroy all data on drive! backup!)

  • i know the disc works cuz i have installed it sucsessfully on my brothers computer.

  • i have tried to dual boot on my pc.

i started it up the first time and it asked for my username and password. it said user login in 10. it counts down, the screen goes black and it happens all over again. what do i do?

  • i am booting off the cd

  • WHY SO RICH!!!!

  • really man, i am not rich at all, most of my equipment is 7 years old (both my monitors and my computer), since then i have replaced the insides of my computer to make it more modern, and that was about $300 - i finally replaed the white moniter about a month ago because it was about 10 years old

    thanks in advance

  • does INTEL PENTIUM D DUO CORE IS 64BIT?

  • i am not sure, i would suggeust looking on intel's site, it should tell you, if you cant find out, you can always burn a 64 bit disk and if it dosent boot then go back to the 32/x86 disks... if you do mind a bit of wasted time and a disk

  • i cant make it bootable

  • I installed ubutnu on a laptop that didn't have a installed OS... and now when i try to install Windows XP it doesn't work.. how do i install it on ubuntu..plz help
