the person i play against who uses tyranids has one fatal flaw. he only has one dedicated AT unit, and thats the zoanthrope.
i wipe out the zoanthrope and my dreadnoughts just decimate his hormogaunt/termaguant army. this is more user-error since he almost always uses the gaunts to pull units towards his hive-tyrant (which is set up for maximum CC ability) so i find tyranids easy only because he makes it easy.
a half decent tyranid player who uses a good mix of each unit type can decimate anyone
as a sm player i use a lot of template and blast weapons vs nids. i use flamers and heavy bolters in my tacticals and missile launchers in a devi squad to deal with the with the little stuff along with dreadies, jump dudes and land speeder tornados, scouts with snipers will take out a carny (eventually) and bog standard scouts can cover their asses a hb with hell fire helps. Assualt termies will take out big shit if they stun it with a thunder hammer first or 4 direct hits from frags
first thing first heavy bolter and missle launchers\ plasma cannons work agianst swarm list but my way is to unload agianst synapse with heavy weapons (yes ignore the carnifex for warriors) and unload heavy bolters agianst the little guys but try to get gene stealers or hormogaunts first i play dark angels (bad ass space marines) and i have yet to lose to a nid army (ps im starting a nid army soon)
I use this against lots of rending/PW units GS, bloodletters, assualt terms any squad with the above. However this still doesn't replace the fact that when I play Space Marines what do I do? I have an idea with scout bike cluster mines paired with something else I haven't play tested yet.
I play Eldar,I play an all comers list and the only thing I have found to even closely handle GS outflanks, is keeping my squad of HB that would be hunting other list, held back in their WS waiting, to assault. They go first all PW and kill med size GS squads +doom oh yeah. Plus I run a lot of DA, keeping two squads on the outside and up farther than normal both with Seers (doom, fortune) Ex w/SS and add Fort. They get assaulted first, then HB clean up. Much more to it than that but thats one way
and now carnifexes have been nerfed

take a devastater squad for carnifex, take 2 vindicators for infantry. for close combat take terminators, and assault marines.

Harleys will give steelers a good fight though....if the steelers dont wipe the harleys out first time its game over for the steelers.

Tyranids are much more point for point effective against SMs.
