Moreover, Ezekiel 26 prophecies that Nebachadnezzar of the Babylonian Empire would destroy Tyre. This is yet another reference to a specific time period. Of course, Nebachadnezzar failed to completely destroy Tyre though he laid seige to it for 13 years (586–573 BC). It was not until Alexader the Great, some 2 centuries later that the city was finally conquered (332 BC).

However, it was rebuilt and even in the Gospels we see Jesus walking through Tyre (Matthew 15:21; Mark 7:24).

Since the Bible is rooted in history the prophecies likewise are rooted in history. A prophecy against the United States some 2.5 thousand years later would have meant nothing to Ezekiel's hearers of his day. It is safe to say that when the Bible says Tyre it means Tyre.

This is what Ezekiel prophecies against Tyre in 26:14, "I will make you a bare rock, and you will become a place to spread fishnets. You will NEVER be rebuilt, for I the LORD have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD."

If one goes to Google Earth today one can see that Tyre is very much rebuilt and is a city of over 120,000 people.

This appears to be a failed prophecy. However, I am open to being proven wrong. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks.

@wlemusic Are you sure he actually means Tyre? Could he not be referring to something else like everything else does in the Bible? And maybe, that prophecy hasn't actually happened yet. (Personally i believe that is pointed at us here in the U.S)

Do we follow the new testament "Thou Shall not kill"? Would god have left us to die and those whom are minoritys? How much of the bible is true? Not much... Evolution is right and so far its been proven. You christians, catholics, jewish, havent found a way to counter that.

@xXShadowFearXx Um, Evolution has been proved wrong by it's own science numerous times.. You can't get living from non-living. and randomness evolving into more and more perfect order is ridiculous. I would need more faith to believe in that then in a perfect God.

Because if it was proven then all scientists would embrace it, but they haven't and they won't because it's a bunk theory. And if you think noahs ark is a true story of what really happened you're just as dumb as I thought and know nothing about oral tradition in biblical times. DO SOME RESEARCH and stop pretending wikipedia is your god.

If we all follow your way, will we be happy as you? I'll take a pass. By the way, no, evolution is still a theory. Some of its earlier proponents have already seem through it and moved on. Takes awhile, but it is a dead end. Like life in general, right shadow? My condolences. But there is a way out.

Here is father truth. There is a living book and he put this "IN YOU".

Man fell from Fathers grace, and was cut off from access to the divine, so he doesn't have access to this knowledge, that is Fathers truth making man very wise.

There is a way back to father, but it isn't sold in paperback, no man can teach you or lead you, it is only BY YOU through you to Father. That is the ONLY way.

Everything you need to be in Fathers grace is "IN YOU" no books required.

I totally agree with Dr. Piper here.

You see, the Anglican mission with the Mapuche people in southern CHile (South America) during late19th/early 20th centuries, started like that... some British missionaries talking to illiterate Mapuche people with very little understanding of Spanish, least to say English. Now, 100 years later, they have a Mapudungun-translated New Testtament, and most people know Spanish, and read some to a point... its completely doable !
