Well, it's because a man is getting pleasure from it, and a man getting pleasure is the biggest crime of all. I mean hell, a happy, unstressed, relaxed man is the worst thing in society. That makes sense, it's a 'service industry' so you're not going to have, say, restaraunts or hotels that would get to rate their customers. They just kick them out if they're being jackasses or involve the authorities if they're not paying up or some other illegal activity. Same with prostitution. It's regulated and legal in the Netherlands but there is a huge problem over there with human trafficking of sex slaves from developing nations. The prostitution industry makes a lot more money with these girls because they don't have to pay them as much and don't have to worry about consequences of what might happen to them.

The roots of why most prostitutes get into prostitution is pretty simple: poverty and lack of education (which is why they are almost uniformly poor). Cut down poverty and improve the quality of education in poor areas and I guarantee many would cease being prostitutes (if they can escape from the pimps).
If that is what you think than you misunderstand my position. Obviously cutting down the need for prostitution is ideal. I don't understand the logic of limiting the option to do so if that is what one desires. I know that this is not the majority of the situation, but some women enter in to prostitution not necessarily out of need but for upward mobility. They decide the gain in income is worth it. Well, I understand what you're saying in the context of a free and democratic society where poverty and illiteracy are at a minimum and men and women have become more or less fully equal socially and economically. But we don't live in such a society (at least yet). In the currently-existing society most people who are into it do so out of financial need. The problems with illegal drugs is not that they kill people, it's that the only people who provide illegal drugs are criminals and they can not be regulated.

Harman (or as she's sometimes known, Harperson) is absolutely mad, wants to legislate equality all over the social sphere. She recently said that the Labour Party couldn't again have a male leader and male deputy because men weren't fit for it, she's an absolute embarrassment. She and Jacqui Smith attempted to make prostitution illegal, when we should be legalizing and regulating. Prostitution is degrading, this site is digusting, the government should help women get out it, but this is garbage

Same with prostitution. It's regulated and legal in the Netherlands but there is a huge problem over there with human trafficking of sex slaves from developing nations. The prostitution industry makes a lot more money with these girls because they don't have to pay them as much and don't have to worry about consequences of what might happen to them.

I don't know about some drugs but I think a situation where some people feel the need to sell their own bodies (notice it's mostly females) says something about gender relations and the economic state of society. How would you feel if your mother or daughter or sister became one?

Now your logic is wandering onto the same train of thought that right-wing libertarians use to argue against regulation of industry or against a single-payer healthcare system.
The roots of why most prostitutes get into prostitution is pretty simple: poverty and lack of education (which is why they are almost uniformly poor). Cut down poverty and improve the quality of education in poor areas and I guarantee many would cease being prostitutes (if they can escape from the pimps).

If that is what you think than you misunderstand my position. Obviously cutting down the need for prostitution is ideal. I don't understand the logic of limiting the option to do so if that is what one desires. I know that this is not the majority of the situation, but some women enter in to prostitution not necessarily out of need but for upward mobility. They decide the gain in income is worth it. Who are you and I to say that engage in a victimless activity if she so choses?

Well, I understand what you're saying in the context of a free and democratic society where poverty and illiteracy are at a minimum and men and women have become more or less fully equal socially and economically. But we don't live in such a society (at least yet). In the currently-existing society most people who are into it do so out of financial need. That's why I don't like calling it "victimless" in the context of current society.
In an ideal society I would fully agree.

The problems with illegal drugs is not that they kill people, it's that the only people who provide illegal drugs are criminals and they can not be regulated.
Providers of legal drugs (such as tobacco, alchohol and medicine) on the other hand can be.

If legal drug providers sold regulated drugs it wouldn't stop the crack/meth epidemic one bit. Then companies would just push these drugs even harder since they can make a profit from them.

Can't you read? There's a difference between the dsrug problem and the drug trade problem. Drug-related deaths occur because they are criminalized, not because they are poison.
I'm not saying that drugs are safe. But people die every day because of alchohol, do you want that criminalized? How about cars?

The word 'punter' has a more general meaning than that. It can refer to customers of pubs, betting houses, brothels etc., to customers of services not suitable for children I suppose. It's not an insulting term and bookies and pub owners use it all the time on TV.
