  • Funny to see you people still discussing Karate vs MMA when we have a Karate champion in the UFC LHW division and plenty others in MMA.

  • it's hard to say who is a real fighter till you see.... I agree that traditional martial arts are really traditional and really arts, more healthful ...but just a few men can approach such understanding and effectiveness. I am saying that MMA as a form of training gives you a better training in comparison to karate. Do u watch fights in cage?

  • Most of you have never practice justu, grapling, boxing... am I right? This guy is nothing against well-trained MMA fighter!!! Karate is good for health but not enough to become a real warrior! >:(

  • Er...... you know that traditional martial arts were actually tested and used in wars, right? Not like MMA, which is nothing but a steroid-charged spectator sport..... You think MMA fighters are 'real warriors'. Ok....

  • no, traditional arts are not tested in wars :)....a long time ago karate was karate-jutsu...which is the deadful form of karate. After war it becomes more peaceful and spread out like karate-do, which tries to do less hard and more understanding among the trainees.

  • Ummm.. you basically just admitted it then. According to you, a long time ago, karate was more deadly.... the reason being they used it and other traditional martial arts in wars. MMA fighters are athletes who are trained to last long and take pain, but they're not warriors. In a fight to the death situation, they'd have a much harder time than a traditional martial artist, because their attacks aren't centered around fighting to kill, but rather for points.

  • I agree but nowadays I dont know a single person to have trainings like a real warrior. the same for MMA fighters. But a slight comparison will show you that the current karate trainees in total are less effective than thier MMA opponents. The master above has some technical mistakes in his performance above and that is according to the greatest shotokan master sensei Kato (still living). I can not saying anything about his efficacy. I believe that this master is powerful and severe fighter.

  • That's partially true. But not entirely. My sensei, for example, used his Karate and Aikijutsu in war and killed people with his martial arts. He trained about 50 years ago. However, to say that nowadays people are not trained like that is true in MOST cases, but not all. Ever since martial arts became a public thing for anybody, as opposed to a way of life, it has become watered down, but there are still some people who practice it in its truest form, most of whom won't be found in the US

  • As for MMA in terms of effectiveness, MMA is very good for building a strong body and definitely some fighting skills. However, a real warrior is a lot more than a fighter. It's not just in your body, but it's also in your heart. MMA fighters are arrogant showboats who have no composure or finesse. They have no control over their emotions, and it's evident in the way they fight. I'm not saying they're weak or can't fight or cowardly. They can fight and do serious damage for sure.

  • But a person with a true warrior's spirit is humble and does not seek to show off his prowess or seek recognition, nor does he cause pain to others needlessly, as is the case in MMA where people bloody each other up for others' entertainment.

  • I completely agree with your last 3 posts....however my comments were not about the spirit but concern the form of the kata and basic principles like holding up the heel while moving from one direction to another. I think that a real master should have a middle position between to blocks or between a hit and a block. Of course this position should not be underlined but must exist! I can send you (when I have time) some materials to see what I mean... Congrads for your good answers! Thanks!

  • @ganuk Well sure, but all in all, one can still achieve that level of mastery with traditional martial arts, they just need to have a real teacher. And they need to train hard like they used to back then. Nowadays, since people are busy, they 'don't have time' to train like that. But some people who really care about the art make time. Anyway, I appreciate your posts, and I'd love to see what you have to show me. Just send me a message.

  • soy cinturon verde de karate y es el mejor heian shodan k he visto

  • Very good indeed.

  • Excelente!!!!!!!

    Karate es el mejor

  • the guy is excellent, not perfect... Karate is art.... I agree :) Peace! :)

  • @ganuk hey man its not easy to get to 10th dan... dont fuck with this guy.. u'll just make yourself look like an idiot cos your sensei 'told you so'

  • @ganuk dude, he IS the maximum authority in the skif , if he makes the kata that way, the kata must be performed his way

    got it ?

  • :) no, i am not kidding ... I am not telling that he doesnt finish at the same place...at this point he is ok. I agree that this man can punch and kick...too many years practice...but dont bet on somebody 100% ;)... I am speaking about the heel when he goes back; i am speaking about the middle technic between the block and the hit. I am pretty sure that the last one is known by the master but he is exposing the sole form of the kata. But cannot understant the first "mistake" :).

  • well I'm pretty sure karate is less scientific and more of an art, that's why it's called martial 'art' not martial 'science'.

And as any artist, in any form of art, it may be pleasing for some (myself included) and there are also people who don't; anyway, bottom line: the guy is not only good but excellent, although as you point out not perfect, and that's because he's human

    Peace!

  • thanks you ,i will ,it is very fun actually =)

  • damn it ,could it get more complex ?? thanks anyway =)

  • @punkdude1994 hahaha

  • hey listen i am new to karate still very white belt lol ,still noob ,go ahead laugh, anyway i kinda suck at katas ,i have a question ,each arm must move with its leg right ??right with right ,left with left, no switching like attacking with right arm and taking a step with left leg ??

  • Hirokazu Kanazawa 10º Dan

  • I dont like how it is presented... the heel is not firm on the ground and preparation of the blocks is weak :)

  • Are you kidding?!?! His form is perfect!

Look at the cross in the floor he ends the kata EXACTLY where it began!

weak? I'd really like to see you thorw a punch at him and see how that goes!

  • wow i got red belt

  • what about 12 dan then "-__-

  • how is it possible that he's 10th dan?? i've always heard that you get it only after your death....

  • My Understanding is the same as yours. I thought the highest alive in shotokan at this time was 8th degree but I am not an expert.

  • 1st Dan More than 1 year after

2nd Dan More than 2 years after 1st Dan 18

3rd Dan More than 3 years after 2nd Dan 21

4th Dan More than 4 years after 3rd Dan 25

5th Dan More than 5 years after 4th Dan 30

6th Dan More than 6 years after 5th Dan 35

7th Dan More than 7 years after 6th Dan 40

8th Dan More than 8 years after 7th Dan 50

9th Dan More than 9 years after 8th Dan 60

10th Dan More than 10 years after 9th Dan 70

  • dude.....how can you get something after your death -_-" think!

  • I was training karate shotokan for two years and I was always said that you get 10th dan after your death. also you can get some extra belts for spreding karate worldwide

  • Not the stupidest thing, just how it works. Look it up online, you'll find a bit of stuff on the tradition.

  • Its kinda like sainthood. That's how the system works.

  • this is the 2nd kata in my club the 3rd is saifa and 4th is bassai daibut we do saifa and bassai twice. saifa is difficult as it is a very tidy kata

  • Thank god for this. I always get mixed up at the end of this kata. Now i'm not!

  • Me too, thanks to orbelus for the upload.

  • funakoshi changed the name from pinan (okinawa) to heian (japan) and changed the order of the first two, so, heian shodan IS pinan nidan. you will have slight variations from style to style..i was also told nakayama sensei changed them from the way funakoshi did them..but i don't know for sure.

  • Honto.

  • For me, Heian Shodan is still the most difficult Heian kata. Your basics have to be real good like Kanazawa here, or else your kata will suck.

  • scary... i wouldnt want to fight him

  • Intersting that the moves in Kanazawas Heian Shodan most closely resemble the Wado Ryu Pinan (Heian) Nidan.
