  • good :)

  • It always bothers me when pieces are transposed but wow.... this is amazing!

  • This is the most glorious ting I have ever heard!! Well Done Gomalan Brass!! Your are by far, my favorite brass quintet!!

  • MUSIC ORGASM!!!!!!

  • 1 person was bad taste for music

  • che corno utilizzi nilo?

  • You guys have chops of steel.

  • Absolutely amazing! Reminds me of SCV 2000...haha

  • Beautiful!

  • Congratulations on a wonderful job....

    This is really fantastic.

At a point, the frist trumpeter is facing backwards.

Does that serves to change the sound?

If so, it's smart for you to do so....hehehe

(Would you do that in live concert?)

I live in Taiwan. I hope one day Gomalan Brass Quintet can come.

Many of my friends likes your works very much.

  • Marco Pierobon - 1st trumpet; is using a C trumpet, and the 2nd trumpet player is using a Bb trumpet. You can tell this by how far the lead pipes extend.

  • they just blanket you with the deep chords

  • what a wonderfully warm and golden sound

  • The first trumpet is a C trumpet, he clearly uses E Concert on valves 1 and 2. I play both BBb and CC tubas, so I can discern the difference. The tuba in this video is also a BBb tuba. Normally I see CC tubas in brass quintets, but I guess in Europe CC and BBb tubas are acceptable in orchestras.

  • @CorvetteCoonass I take that back, it is a CC tuba. Didn't notice the compensating valve on the right side of the horn.

  • @CorvetteCoonass Sorry, it's an F tuba! First trumpet is using a Yamaha C!

  • @gomalanbrass Darn, I was way off. I've only played BBb and CC tubas so I only assumed it had to be one of those.

  • It's played so intense, so outstanding, of course... Thanks very much!

    Best regards from Germany.

  • Why can't it be written in the original key that it was intended for?!?!??!?!

this is good, but nooooo, it sounds wrong, in a lower register, and many voices that are in the piece are missing, leaving out the entirety of the piece....

  • @1george08 I guess they do it so that it fits the sonority of a brass quintet. Thats the only reason that I could think of.

  • @1george08 I think this is in Bb Minor, whereas the original was in Eb Minor. This sounds like the Canadian Brass arrangement.

  • I've always loved the huge variety of emotions a trumpet can make. I play it myself and while I'm in a band I feel powerful and epic but in a small group like this, it makes such an austere and lonely sound. I love it and keep up the great work guys :D

  • Too Fast.... Waaaaay too fast....

  • The gentlemen who arranged this piece did a lovely job. I wish he arranged more "spiritual-like" pieces. I'm rather lazy and don't like transcribing/arranging pieces for brass quintet. I injured my elbow three years ago and put the horn away. I picked it back up after listening to this four months, ago. It sounds silly, probably. Hopefully you have done a good thing inspiring me to play, again. ; ) I had no idea what I gave up.

  • PLEASE COME TO FLORIDA! i would do anything to see you guys live

  • Is the sheet music for this arrangement available for purchase? if so could you provide the source Thanks

  • unless they arent using a Bb trumpet, im pretty sure they arent really playing, cause the 1st trumpets fingerings are all off, lol, im playing the same arrangement

  • @griffinw13 hehehe,

maybe audio and video files are a little bit off, but we was recording our Moviebrass album! Let's check it on iTunes!

    Ciao

  • They are using C trumpets...thats why you think its off.

  • @griffinw13 They are playing C trumpets.

  • @griffinw13 Let me rephrase that, the first trumpet player is playing a C trumpet.

  • @BigDawg5803 They are both playing C trumpets. ; ) I'm sure. In the key of F-minor, no less.

  • @griffinw13 do you concur?

  • @griffinw13 Those are definitely C trumpets. He starts off on an F(held) E F G . E F G . F G Ab . F G Ab . G Ab Bb . G Db. On Bb trumpet: G(held) F# G A . F# G A . G A Bb . G A Bb . A Bb C . A Eb .

I may not have the correct key... but those are the notes. ; )

    Let's Check:

    Original Bb

He is on F (down a 4th) ... He uses the leading tone E-natural which is fine. It checks out. ; p

  • @griffinw13 Just to clear it up, the trumpets are using C trumpets. You can see it in shots like at 4:30 very clearly. So, yes, they are really playing and they are really that amazing.

  • @griffinw13 plantains.

  • @griffinw13 hes on a c

  • @griffinw13 they are playing C and Bb trumpets, compare where the tuning slides end

  • @griffinw13 looks like C trumpets...

  • @griffinw13 it looks like they're using C trumpets

  • @griffinw13 uhhh C Trumpet duh the C and the Bb Trumpet fingerings are off

  • @CodeProtoss01 Or you know, there is the fact that the body of the trumpet is considerably shorter than a standard Bb.

  • @anthonybgiglio you have yet another good point there.

  • siete bravissimi

  • God... that chord at 3:10!

It gives me chills! The dissonance is just so beautifully renditioned!

    I am seriously awed.

  • They sound terrific, Anyone know of a place where I can find the sheet music for trumpet?

  • @HEmmerich89

Hi, I play a Bb trumpet. I don't know about the sheet music but I think the song is based on the Bb scale and I start on a Bb and kinda take it from there. I've heard it in other key signatures and it sounds about the same but starting higher or lower but I know that's how I play it :D

  • They are all just amazing musicians. I love the first trumpet players' tone and vibrato. And the canadian brass arrangment they are playing is amazing. Perfect balance. Best brass recording of this song.

  • INCREDIBLE! ahahahahahahahaa bravo!~!

  • MAGNIFICENT!

  • Simply stunning!!!

  • I need this arrangement. how can I get it?

  • great performance!!! 5 stars!

  • sounds good but i think u guys were too fast on the tempo i just think this piece should end up being about 9:30 to 11:00 mins long

  • I'm thinking it's faster because their brass players, thus using their own breath to play, unless the all could circular breathe, I doubt anyone playing this but strings could take it at the original tempo. There are recordings of choirs doing this as well, and it's around the same tempo.

  • sorry, as a proficient trumpet player i can tell you i could almost outlest a single bow of a violin, and for example my grade 8 pieces which were much harder than this and high and more draining, lasted for around 8 minutes each not including the study, its probally more about artistic licence than their inability to long times, u just breath in the right places, i mean there i times where they have time forbig breaths, its just their own interpretation.

  • That;s all interpretation.....

  • It's just every video I see from you guys I get that same feeling: B-E-A-U-tiful!

  • dude sick

  • This is a slightly modified version of the Canadian Brass arrangement, available on the Canadian Brass Website.

  • We wouldn't by chance be able to purchase this fabulous arrangement of Adagio anywhere, would we? :)

  • i have a very similar verion if u reply to me somehow with your email address, i have played it in concerts in big theatres and it sounds as beautiful as this, its VERY similar

  • the tenor is in there it is on trombone !!

  • Superb rendition.

  • does anyone know where i could get the trumpet part for this?

  • You should ask Marco Pierobon

  • Precioso!!!

  • I agree with the comment about how well they're handling the dissonance. All the harmony: every weird bass note, tritone, major 7th interval, risky augmentation/diminution sounds just perfect and beautiful. Anyone can learn to simply play the notes on a page of music. It takes so much more to make the notes into a performance like this. I am not worthy!

  • I migliori per passione professionalità e umiltà

  • i loved it, but some of the chords are really lacking a rich tenor sounds. this would be a mind blowing band if it became a sextet with a euphonium added.

  • spectacular playing . . . thanks for sharing.

  • iv been playing trumpet for two years so far and this is a great goal to reach for it sounds so good im going to try to convince the school conductor to let us play this! magic piece of music with the brass band thank you so much for posting

  • beautiful and magic !!!

  • When the trombone has melody he should play out more

  • no not really it is great were it is at... typical trumpet responce tho lol

  • I actually play euphonium

  • still not a trombone bud

  • ma siete angeli?

  • The best brass quintet version of the Adagio I have heard so far... Amazing playing. Bellissimo!!!!!

  • We are not worthy!!!

  • what inspiration!!!

  • Good God keep up the magnificent sounds. I don't hear one intonation issue what so ever. Bravo.

  • Stunning the lead trumpet your tone is close to that of a wooddwind sound, stunning. Very tight guys.

  • i dont agree with that sorry. its a really really rich brass sound, really nice vib, no woodwind instrument could create the really powerfull rich timbre, sorry, i just love this piece and i love brass and the fat brass band sound

  • @vonhelshnic If you dont already, you would love Drum Corps. Look up the Phantom Regiment, They will blow you away. No other sound like it.

  • @vonhelshnic Both brasswind and woodwind instruments have their strong points, and both woodwind and brasswind instruments have their weakpoints.

  • I have chills!

  • the lead players sound is a bit bright other than that it was great

  • wow... amazing.. the last few mins sounded like an organ

  • Amazingly done with brass!!

  • oommggg this is so kick ass!!! i love this brass quintet just for this song now....they played it so beutifally and sounded like strings insted of blaring non string instruments and had so much emotion into there playing adding some phraseing here and there and haveing a beutiful timbre

  • lol i agree with you mostly but im confused about your comment about phrasing. pro musicians are always shaping the phrase

  • Despite what others have said, I think that the balance is perfect. And such a gorgeous sound from the trumpets.

  • well said

  • I think maybe that he was confusing colour with brightness possibly, I've listened to this recording several times and it's very powerfull. When I compare it to the Canadian brass recording I have to say this performance is better, just in terms of phrasing. This is a better arrangement of the piece anyway which could be why I like it better but I think that this group really makes great use of the characteristic sound of thier instruments and of dynamics, the build up from 4:39 is just awesome.

  • agree

  • trumpet is a bit bright and knocks the balance off. i would have liked to hear more horn and tuba. :]

    overall very nice!

  • AMAZING!! I play 1st trumpet in my schools brass wuintet and we r playing this song. I wish we sounded as good as you guys...KEEP IT UP!!

  • absolutely incredible!!

  • This is an AMAZING piece.. guys make it sound great.

im a F Horn player. i liked when we played this song..

  • Masterfully done! Two thumbs up!

  • better then what?

  • me too, trumpetplayer29. me too...

  • ognuno reagisce in modo diverso...

  • wow. that was blunt

  • everyone reacts in different ways.

  • Wow, guys. Barber's genius is all about his handle on dissonance(which in a chamber setting can be a real challenge) and the fact that you guys handle it so well and play with such musicality and emotion speaks volumes. Loved it, bravo!

  • absolutely spectacular!!! plan on performing in Boston sometime soon?

  • better than with strings! i was in cremona two years ago and i love this piece, and i love brass. you guys must have formed recently

  • Yes, of course.

    Formed in july.

    1999!

    Cheers!

  • STupendiiii!!!!!!grandissimiii!!!!

  • hi! I loved that arrangement. can you send me , please , the scores? I LOVED IT!

    mrasquinho (at) gmail (dot) com

    ;)

  • Mr McNeff (the arranger) will be very happy about it...

  • Fantastic!!

  • We played this for Solo $ Ensemble..

    it was prety kool.

    this is a great piece.

and it sounds really good here..

  • Nice sound. Compared to the original, way too fast.

  • my high school band just got this piece and i hope we can play it as well as this

  • you can't lol.

  • I listen to this video over and over and I still get goosebumps. This is a fantastic piece. The trumpets and french horn players are magnificent!

  • Siete i più grandi! In bocca al lupo per la vostra fantastica carriera.

  • i love that french horn players sound...beautiful tone

  • adoro questo pezzo!!

  • I have that arrangment of Adagio for Strings... The only thing about it is that it is a complete 4th down from the actual pitch because the piece starts on a Bb but this one starts on a F. N

Not that it is bad... Just a little different.

  • Bravo Gomalan Brass!

  • bravi!!!

    siete fantastici!!!

  • The most amazing brass quintet today!!
