  • No one done it as good as Carl R.I.P carl

  • Far too fast. The studio version was perfect...

  • Great find! I'm sure that most will disagree with me, but this is one of the few recordings I've seen and heard with the "passion" that I think Linda had when he wrote and recorded mBube. I'm not sure what he'd have thought of the style, but I'm sure he would have loved the heart!

  • All three are now deceased, but what memories !

  • he had a great voice, also dont forget the real genius that is the guitar player, he was brilliant before clapton hendrix et al and never mentioned when great players are mentioned

  • @homolgus : Trouble was, image and appearance were everything in those days (cf Ian Stewart with the Rolling Stones). Many's the superb muso who had to be satisfied with playing on the sessions for some skinny long-haired little git who grabbed all the glory.

  • I love this song but at the start he sounds like Vic Reeves doing the cabaret singer on shooting stars.

  • next time ahm in springburn, im gonnae blast this fae mah motor.

  • Two song's that make Karl Denver (for me anyway) one of the bestsingers, this is one & "Voices of the Highlands" is the other. What a great voice to loose

  • his best song

  • @stewarthw It´s not his, the song is originally from solomon linda, and it´s called "mbube", it was recorded in the 30´s. Altough I agree with you, this is a beautiful performance, and it touches us deeply. great voice.

  • i am now a fan

  • You've got to wonder why people listen to Rap!

  • That bass player is in the groove!

  • Nelson Mandela's next door neighbour, Israel "Izzo" Lumumbai, wrote this in 1950

  • Wiki The Lion Sleeps Tonight... the song is by Solomon Linda, and his group, the Evening Birds recorded back in 1939.

  • @BrokenneckYgor Yes but in his autobiography ( "Living next door to a hero") Izzo Lumumbai admitted that he heard someone from the next street singing it first, in 1948, although he was the first to actually write it down.

  • Great!

  • he was from royston in glasgow, my grandmothers cousin!

  • I've known Kevin Neill who is the guitar player on the right and a nicer man you couldn't wish to meet. First time I've seen him perform and he's still at it!!!

  • I wonder if Vic Reeves based his club singer routine on Shooting Star on this...its uncanny

  • OMG, Thanks so much. My Daddy & I loved this! :-)

We'd go out & we always listened to old country, but dad had a tape deck in his car & this was 1 oh his & mine faves :-)

  • Amazing vocalising, first time have looked closely at this group.

  • that is some kick-ass guitar playing!

  • love this song by carl, used to work with him in the clubs of Manchester have very fond memories of a great guy. had some top nights with him.

  • sounds much better fast

  • Nice find! I have (and still play) this, the original and best version, although the record is much slower. Will speed it up next time I play it!

  • This single was in amongst our records at home when I was a kid in the 1970s. It seemed a v old record to me even then. Listening to it I couldn't believe it was ever in the charts, but here it is. It's kind of grown on me over the years.

  • Karl Denver sang as if he was communicating with spirits - awesome!

  • Absoloutely great!

    Is this the original?

  • Awesome,if that doesn't raise a smile...check your pulse you might have died.
