I am playing this piece. It is in AMEB Grade 8 16th Edition. The left hand is not supposed to speed up and slow down as much as you did and the accents you put were a bit too strong. I know you wanted to put emotion in it but don't go too far. Good job though! :)
You might want to try playing with a metronome. The left hand should be very legato. A good way to practice this is without pedal. Make it as smooth without pedal and then when you do add it back it will only enhance the piece
Very good! If I can make a few suggestions...listen to the voicing very carefully...your left hand in the beginning is beautiful, but when the right hand enters with the melody, see if you can't make it "soar" more...I don't know how to describe it..but nice timbre and well played :)
I suggest making the dynamics clearer, and of course go at a slower, more focused tempo. You don't want to hurry this nocturne. In particular, for a nocturnal atmosphere, I usually play it with a little more emphasis and don't make it so 'close' together the notes. Especially when the piece gets dreamy, I prefer to play with a softer left hand and let the right hand sing out the melody.
alvinkuo777 - "I suggest..." - Eminor Noct Chop.. The tempo is marked like 88.. The conundrum is taking the tempo and keeping the left hand absolutely legato.. This vid has a good right hand on the trillos et al.. but the left hand is like way wanting still.. perhaps that's what she mentioned about reworking.. Check out "OIGAU Chopin E minor".. I play it there on a Yamaha that's a home practice piano, but you might let me know what you think.. thanks..
you need to feel it more. you do a great job here, but you've got to put your soul into it to make it more than just 'good'. not trying to put you down at all. great job.
I'm not a big fan of your interpretation, but I respect it and you do it well. Good job! One suggestion though: trills from the romantic period were usually started on the bottom note. However, it really is up to whatever the pianist thinks sounds better. Give it a try, you might like it.
I generally think that the left hand part of this nocturne should be played smoothly; still using some rubato but not so much that it takes away from the movement of the music. I find that the left hand is what keeps it moving, and when the left hand doesnt flow well, it sort of makes the whole thing sound choppy
im going to start taking piano lessons and this is the first song i want to learn. how did you learn it and how long did it take you, or is where can you find the sheet music?
if your starting from scratch it will probably take you a year or two until your really ready to learn this piece. Because you should learn the theory behind the music, which will make it easier to understand and play, which will help you breeze through the piece rather than figure out each individual note each time, like i had to do -.-
IMHO, a Chopin nocturne is not something that can be tackled by someone even after a couple of years , leave alone as the first piece!! I have learned piano for 2 years and I just now feel confident at tackling some of the easier Chopin preludes - I am not ready for the nocturnes. Learning the notes is like 10% of the difficulty of Chopin - 90% is capturing the emotion.
oh my, well if you're just starting piano...then i suggest you probably try and tackle something a bit less difficult. after maybe a few years of theory and plenty of practice and passion, then you should get where you want to be. and as for the sheets, i dont know where on the internet you could find it, but you could get it at any second hand book shop for a really good price! anyways, good luck! :)
I'm learning this piece right now, wish I could do trills like you :( Your version sounds a bit different from the one on my The Pianist soundtrack though.
beautiful, but theres ONE thing thats really bugging me.
Your left hand triplets are VERY uneven. In this piece, the triplets are quarter notes divided into 3 EVEN parts. What you're doing is more like 8th-16th-16th-8th-16th-dotted8th. work on your rhythm with that, making sure each of the notes of the triplets are perfectly even, and it will be just fine.
You play so beautifully... this is my absolute favorite song of all time. I used to play when I was a small child, but picked up the clarinet and violin, and haven't touched a piano since. Don't be so critical on yourself...lol this is breathtaking!!! :)
I love this song. Im sucha noob at this stuff though. Im just learning how to read music at 17. Just to get through this song is one of my goals. Good job!
nice job- I'm very impressed! Easy on the pedal & left hand, and I would say take it a little slower. Nice trills...but relax. Your hands look like 2 spiders. Make them look like a river flowing over the keys.
do you have a tri pod? if so then you could set it on top of the piano and have the angle of the camera 90 degres down or if you mounted the camera to the side like you have it just higher up like on a book shelf or somethng.
Listen, I don't play the piano but what I thought was so interesting about this was his left hand. It gives the music a different personality when that side of the piece has a stronger presence rather than mumbling along in the background. Music is expression.
Nicely done dude. I think your left hand is WAY too heavy though.. think about it being night time. Nice work, theres some killer trillage in this piece huh!
I play this piece myself, just recently learned it, and you play it very well, though as it returns to the semi repeated section, you seem to rush the play and not emphasise the thrills, but this is a minor criticism to a well-played nocturne.
I reason why I chose this one was that I have so many slow recordings, and I really like it faster. And I only have one recording with a tempo like mine.
The background Chopin compose this piece is that he is on the way home on a boat , the night is dark and silent he is singing during the journey ... so I think your left hand should play the note smoothly , in line , not just playing arpeggios . I am only an amateur piano player , please don't mind about my comment .
no no, I value your feedback very much. There are many parts that should have been softer, mainly the left hand. But i sort of have the camera to blame here.
god. your technique is so effing good. *hates trills* i'm doing a nocturne too.. of sorts. but of course, i couldnt be as good as you. (psst... dont you think kyle seems orgasmic over chopin... >___>;; xP) i'm kidding of course. i think. but good job anyhow! 5/5
Ya I totally need to tone down during the soft parts....but its so hard. I swear it sounds softer live. but ya....the soft part near the middle was definitely too loud, there is a sudden change to forte, and its like non-existent in my recording, hahaha
I really like all of your peices, they are all very well done and comforting to listen too. I give you a 5/5 I wouldn't give you any less. Keep up the good work!
I always found your FF Piano Collection video very enjoyable to watch and after seeing this video, I notice you've got a very nice classical feeling too! You play this piece very, very nice... Good job and a 5/5 rating of course.
