  • your vids are always amazing as usual !!

    i've one request !!

can you describe the tackle needed to use popper ??

    (the line, braid, ...)

    cheers

  • Thanks, off fishing again this weekend, and might be off around the islands chasing GT's, will see what I can do for you,

    Cheers Greg

  • haha ur popper is not even moving rite and u got a big ass loop and knot in ur line FAIL!

  • why show how to catch when u cant catch shit

  • Do you need a weight for poppers

  • The weight of the popper is all you need for your cast, quality rod and reels help,

    Cheers Greg

  • Respond to this video... you shouldn't jerk the pop-r that hard. I try to make the pop-r to look lazy but scared on the water surface that's how catch most of my trophy fish

  • Alright thanks:)

  • How much do they usually cost?

  • In Australia, poppers can vary from $10 to $60, but budget around $20 for most, Just make sure quality hooks and split rings are on the lures, Big GT's and heavy Braid soon fine any weak link.

    Cheers Greg

  • Where do buy poppers?

  • Where do you buy poppers?

  • Check out your local tackle shops, they should have a good range of poppers and suitable for a good variety of fish, Or Check out the internet, Plenty of online shops, and even EBay will have plenty of poppers and lures

    Cheers Greg

  • how much yds do you prefer in the reels???

  • As much line as possible, but most big spinning reels should be find, using mainly 50 or 80lb Braid,

    Cheers Greg

  • Good luck, and it gets pretty addictive, Keen to do some more Giant trevally fishing soon, Just had a back operation,

    cheers Greg

  • We average about 15 - 20 Kilos (30 - 40 Lbs) for our Giant Trevally with a few unstoppables, Up to 100 pounds, Our best would be a couple around 35 Kilo's, Big fish on one of our Mothershipping Charters,

    Cheers Greg

  • Find it good so far, but haven't given it as good a work out as I'd like. Will get into some more serious GT Fishing shortly, but so far so good. Good value for around the $400 I mark, I think they are now, and worth upgrading the drag, plus come with a great warranty and two free services,

    Cheers Greg

  • am just tryn this popping with lures,i use live bait for these gt,but yeah ,no boat we go from land.i was just woundering if you shop online for your gear???

  • Livebait will work, but if catching on livebait, Poppers should too, they imitate baitfish in Distress and Giant Trevally can't help themselves. Worth trying if you know Giant Trevally are in the area. Also try early morning or Dusk, seem to be more active feeding. Try Ebay, Mo Tackle in Australia or Bass Pro and Cabela in america. Although always worth supporting your local tackle shop with local advice as well,

    Cheers Greg

  • do you guys fish for gt from land or only from boat???

  • We use boats mainly, allows you to work more areas, and get to the good spots, Make sure you get your poppers in close to the rocks in the white water, and work from there. Although working beaches and headlands will work with Queenfish as well, and some great sport, maybe use smaller poppers though and spinners, Plastics like the 7" jerk shad jigged in slowly would work for Flathead and other species,

    Cheers Greg

  • how about a penn reel 8000...would that handle some big ones???

  • They will catch fish, but the new ones are made in China, and aren't as good as the old ones, Depends how serious you are and how many giant trevally you're catching, but does pay to get quality reels and look after them. Best of luck,

    cheers Greg

  • how about a penn reel 8000...would that handle some big ones???

  • what sort of knots do u use for poppers?

  • I use a double onto a 1.5m Leader of 100 - 150 lb Mono, using a Uni knot onto the popper.

    Cheers Greg

  • @Reefari thanks bud!!

  • @quadzilla26b fg knot is the only way

  • Thanks, haven't heard of that one

    Cheerrs Greg

  • I do all the same you do (for one diff. I'm surfing) and 7 of 10 times the hook catches the line. What do I do wrong?

  • Maybe try faster shorter strokes or could be your Popper, some poppers are less stable than others, Shorter poppers seem to tangle up more than the longer ones, and are better in calmer weather and chops?

    Cheers Greg

  • @Reefari Thanks a LOT! Very useful info! I didn't think about. It really must be the lure. Some tangle more often.

What brands you use for striper, bluefish, tuna, kingfish?

  • In Australia, a couple of good poppers we use that might be available overseas would be the Halco Roosta poppers, or River2Sea has a good range of Dumbell Poppers, Stickbaits such as the Doggies and Rover230. All come with top quality hooks, Look for a popper with more weight in the tale, get less tangles during casting,

    Cheers Greg

  • Well worth getting into Popper fishing, gets quite addictive, especially if you get into some Giant Trevally, with Spectacular surface strikes, real adrenalin pumping stuff. Make sure you have a look at some of our other Giant trevally videos,

    Cheers Greg

  • 1st video i've seen that's clear and actually shows a new fisherman like myself how to use a popper lure so I can learn other ways of fishing besides using worms....great video!

  • The one in the video is a Captiva 20cm Popper, fitted with Owner hooks. Good poppers, but the paint doesn't last more than a couple of GT's unfortunately.

    Cheers Greg

  • Brand of that popper??

  • nice
