I found while playing Crysis 1 that i would occasionally find a rock or a tree with a really bad texture, or some ridiculous glitch like a couple of square feet of a riverbank being devoid of water, and these things would break my immersion. Also, there were a few areas (like when you first board the carrier and walk through the corridors with all the people in them) where my frame rate would drop slightly, but was just enough to be annoying. In Warhead, i have yet to notice any of these issues.
The grenade launcher may come off as superfluous, but using it with EMP rounds gives it purpose as it is extremely useful against aliens. Even with maximum strength + EMP grenades, the grenade launcher + EMP rounds is more useful, not only in quantity, but also in ability.
thx for the spoilers. You could simply just say that Crysis Warhead takes place during the same time as Crysis. You don't have to spoil the end in Crysis to review this game.
@mastershake2393 i know what you mean. ive only seen it done on a ps3 though with linux installed . its like my dreamcast with dreamsnes its way faster than a snes but the decoding with games makes it slow down slower than a super nintendo. with a decent emulator though i think anything is possible. I think if they had a supreme emulator they could take full advantage of the gpu
actually there is performance diferences, it was one of the first things i noticed but i sitll have a pretty good computer but i cant max any of the crysis's entirely

well, one: you can't play a PC game on a xbox 360. and two: if you actually could play a PC game on a 360, you would only be able to play it on medium because the 360 uses a really complicated decoding process that lets it use weak graphics cards while letting the games look great, without lagging.

@kris10ish except consoles aren't "next gen". the only thing next gen about the current console line-up is the Kinect, because you can hack it onto the PC and do some pretty awesome stuff w/ it. i agree, it's not that hard to run crysis warhead ON A PC; moreover, i said that the consoles, if anything, would run it on med., so you saying that you can run it on your laptop is out of context.

Let's not forget the stupidity of playing a shooter with a gamepad with autoaim. 360 gamers are robbing themselves of a true Crysis experience.

Yes. I got a PS3. But I've tryed to play stealth/action games, like Splinter Cell Double Agent, but it really doesn't fit my way to play... I prefer more action than just sit and wait.
Awesome review, best one I´ve ever seen. It´s very detailed and touches many aspects of the game. Best thing is that it was neither done by a fanboy nor by a Crysis hater. So you really get a good overview about good and less good parts of the game.
At the end it perhaps get´s bit to positive (many bugs in MP, even worse performance) but however.
Yes they have, but the consoles still cannot run the big and detailed enviromets, so Crysis and Crysis Warhead will never come to consoles, which is sad.
But this means that if Crysis 2 will come to consoles, there will be much smaller and cramp enviroments, which will affect the PC-version in a bad way.
So I hope Crysis 2 never comes to Consoles. I think it does, but I hope it doesn't.
I have to disagree, the campaign in warhead is pretty average in comparison to the original. Similar to your reviews of the half life expansions, there weren't any iconic moments in Warhead in contrast the original :(
when i played the game i got the impression it was rushed..you dont even get to see nomad or phrophet or any of the other main characters and the game doesnt even end the same..in the origial crysis..phsycho is with nomad before he kills the final alien on a boat,theres no such thing in warhead,and also,warhead doesnt end with you on a vtol with nomad like in the original crysis...crytek messed up their game's story....again..if you want a good story..play halflife

Ha, I just beat Crysis a few days ago, and I felt like I was playing along side Jason Statham (Psycho), he's so badass, and I can't wait to play as him in Warhead. However, I have taken a liking to being called Nomad every four and a half-seconds, but I'm sure I'd warm up to Psycho.

BS! Crysis didint have the most advanced AI ever seen in a FPS, Jurassic Park Trespasser had the most advanced. Becuase the animals interact with everything. The dinosaurs can jump they can claw they can bite they can step on you they can do anything a dinosaur could do, eat, drink, move in heards, hunt in packs, fight eachover. There is a huuuge problem with this game... performance issues are a big deal with this game. My specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX Edition. Ran Crysis on Ultra High, 1024x746 throughout the whole game whereas Crysis Warhead, I 'Optimized system settings' and turned up as Mainstream. Seriously, Crytek did NOT 'tweak' the CryEngine2 for the better. The only thing that looked better in this game were the explosions... 'Nuff said.

In the cutscene shortly after you rescue the downed American pilot, you happen across an unarmed NK soldier. The American pilot was ready to execute him, but Psycho stops him and just knocks the NK out instead.
ohh the new crysis did change my mind i hate crysis for its dumb weapon combat and death boring levels but here are both gone better and i increased the suit defense (i think one shot is stupid) well at least the new crysis the ai feels the shots when shoted and not react liek ut bots! areas and story are epic and FINALLY they used bigger areas and wide jungles like they said they will in the beta screens! also new guns balance the gameplay, you are never undefended against a tank!
Dude, the environments aren't "much much larger" than Crysis' environments, they're smaller. The first level is somewhat open but there isn't a single level in the game that compares to Assault, Relic, Recovery or Onslaught
It's true that there's nothing to compare with Assault, but most of Crysis' levels were nowhere near as open as Assault. Warhead's environments are consistently more open - especially when fighting aliens.
It's less apparent because Warhead is half as long as Crysis.
hm... Crysis 2. i don't think crytek is working on that at the moment. they're developing a new game which will be exclusive to consoles. not a crysis game, but something's definitely in development... but not for PC. Crytek's really pissed cuz of piracy. It's sad :( I don't think we'll even see a Crysis 2 in future. As Cevat yerli said the Possibility of Crysis 2 depends on Warhead's sale. will it sell well enough ? i hope it does. it deserves that.
From what I've played of it so far, it doesn't really explain what's going on, just throws you into the conflict without setting the stage. The story doesn't really matter in these games, but still.
It does not tell Nomads story, but having played the first Crysis I didn't bother to think about that. But it sets the stage a little. In the first level you are informed about the alien encounters so far and Raptor teams status is talked about as well.
I really like it that they put O'Neil's story in it too. That was a good thing.
Yeah I haven't got that far. When I get a chance I'll start playing it again, really enjoying it so far. It just seemed to me that the beginning at least would be confusing for someone who hasn't played the first game. Like "huh? Why's it snowing?" or something. Parts like that and the aliens first appearing would seem really random.
RIP man. I just realized how much I want to start PC gaming. The only thing is the hardware requirements.

Ha, I just beat Crysis a few days ago, and I felt like I was playing along side Jason Statham (Psycho), he's so badass, and I can't wait to play as him in Warhead. However, I have taken a liking to being called Nomad every four and a half-seconds, but I'm sure I'd warm up to Psycho.

Your reviews are great. It's nice to see a lot of positive things in games and not have to watch a review bogged down with negative things. Your reviews of games I have owned and played are very similar to my own thoughts which makes me think that you actually play these games and get to know them before you say things about them. BS! Crysis didint have the most advanced AI ever seen in a FPS, Jurassic Park Trespasser had the most advanced. Becuase the animals interact with everything. The dinosaurs can jump they can claw they can bite they can step on you they can do anything a dinosaur could do, eat, drink, move in heards, hunt in packs, fight eachover. The guy who made this video doesnt know his facts.

There is a huuuge problem with this game... performance issues are a big deal with this game. My specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog XXX Edition. Ran Crysis on Ultra High, 1024x746 throughout the whole game whereas Crysis Warhead, I 'Optimized system settings' and turned up as Mainstream. Seriously, Crytek did NOT 'tweak' the CryEngine2 for the better. The only thing that looked better in this game were the explosions... 'Nuff said.

Apparently your graphics card is better then mine...I have a Core 2 duo with 2.5Ghz, 3GB Ram anda ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600. weird that i cant run crysis on high.

from 2:12 to 2:16 u say psycho saves the life of a NK soilder whos about to get exicuted umm where did u get that from? i played crysis warhead over like 3 times and i havent herd or saw anything of what u sad!

In the cutscene shortly after you rescue the downed American pilot, you happen across an unarmed NK soldier. The American pilot was ready to execute him, but Psycho stops him and just knocks the NK out instead.

ohh the new crysis did change my mind i hate crysis for its dumb weapon combat and death boring levels but here are both gone better and i increased the suit defense (i think one shot is stupid) well at least the new crysis the ai feels the shots when shoted and not react liek ut bots! areas and story are epic and FINALLY they used bigger areas and wide jungles like they said they will in the beta screens! also new guns balance the gameplay, you are never undefended against a tank!

Dude, the environments aren't "much much larger" than Crysis' environments, they're smaller. The first level is somewhat open but there isn't a single level in the game that compares to Assault, Relic, Recovery or Onslaught

It's true that there's nothing to compare with Assault, but most of Crysis' levels were nowhere near as open as Assault. Warhead's environments are consistently more open - especially when fighting aliens.
It's less apparent because Warhead is half as long as Crysis.

hm... Crysis 2. i don't think crytek is working on that at the moment. they're developing a new game which will be exclusive to consoles. not a crysis game, but something's definitely in development... but not for PC. Crytek's really pissed cuz of piracy. It's sad :( I don't think we'll even see a Crysis 2 in future. As Cevat yerli said the Possibility of Crysis 2 depends on Warhead's sale. will it sell well enough ? i hope it does. it deserves that.

That's right. Crysis Warhead is a standalone expansion pack. You don't need Crysis to play Warhead.

No Warhead is Crysis from Psycho's point of view. You can play warhead first, it wouldn't matter.

From what I've played of it so far, it doesn't really explain what's going on, just throws you into the conflict without setting the stage. The story doesn't really matter in these games, but still.

It does not tell Nomads story, but having played the first Crysis I didn't bother to think about that. But it sets the stage a little. In the first level you are informed about the alien encounters so far and Raptor teams status is talked about as well.
I really like it that they put O'Neil's story in it too. That was a good thing.

Yeah I haven't got that far. When I get a chance I'll start playing it again, really enjoying it so far. It just seemed to me that the beginning at least would be confusing for someone who hasn't played the first game. Like "huh? Why's it snowing?" or something. Parts like that and the aliens first appearing would seem really random.
