thats not an intellectual speaking from vali nasr, when he says millions of muslims took the ottoman sultan "symbolicly" as kalif.how can he prove that? so its only his interpretation and not a scientific research.i can not also say the pope is just a symbol for all christians.he is not competent.he is a symbol for nationalism, when he says the prophets family till yet was always arabs.thats an air! because muslims know that prophets generation today is not only arabs.i think he is an arabist.

@guisepppe he is persian actually.,,,. but yes most muslims regarded the ottoman sultan as a calph for all muslims...about prophet mohamed generation existense ..am not sure that tey exist today,,,,notice that the prophets only son died in the life time of prophet mohamed
