Try a Brachypelma albopilosum, Eupalaestrus campestratus, Eupalaestrus weijenberghi, Brachypelma emilia, Brachypelma smithi or Avicularia avicularia. Firelegs are too nervous to handle safely. I have an adult female fireleg and she doesn't tolerate handling.

Its not a tarantula that I would handle, they are quite a defensive species

I though 12 inches is rare.

I have a sub adult male and a sub adult female the female is the most aggressive T I've seen. When you open the enclosure she craws to you and tries to bite you.

they also are more bulkier, and more colorful as well, but many people crave females, because of their longevity. Compare B.smithi...males live around 6-7, whereas females live 25-30+, so that's why they're more expensive
