She has really perfect looking handstands on the bars. I think in the olympics previous to this, I remember something about how she won 3 out of the 4 EF golds, but not the AA because the girl who did got a 10 on floor and went before her, so even though she did better, there wasn't a score higher than a 10. So since she had a teeny hop on vault and the other girl didn't, she lost the AA. Seemed so unfair. If only she had done her floor routine before the other girl!
I am not really sure of the criteria that has to be met to score a perfect 10. (I know it has to be perfect, duh, but i dont know why this was considered perfect.) I saw a few deductions in there, and it was almost like they were overlooked. Dont get me wrong, she is an amazing gymnast, and would wipe the floor with all of todays best gymnasts put together. But, why were her deductions overlooked and noone elses were?
This was not her greatest routine, if you compare it with the one she gave at the 88 Olympics it's easier, in the Olympics she makes to releases making the second a Tckackev.
also has no style or elegance, ternmina work very badly and creeia far, no one knew how to have a single note in the gym, and ended its work perfectly, and always worried about their jobs, not by advertising, as Daniel, nadia if was humble.

is a copy! is a copy of the exercise of Nadia Comaneci, the entry and exit, and everything else you copy to the exercise of the nadia.vean from anyone and will see that if you copy.
This is the most incredibly stupid comment I've seen in a while. Nadia's bars were much closer than this; Daniela does a different mount and a Deltchev, whereas Nadia did completely different skills. Even if she did do the same dismount, TONS of gymnasts have used that dismount. You obviously don't know anything about gymnastics.
IMHO if they can justify giving Laschenova a 10.00 in the AA, for a routine with missed handstands sloppy releases and a huge cowboyed double tuck ,then this certainly deserves one too. I will admit I preferred Fan Di here but I have no problem with the tie either.
News flash, this was in the eighty's, tens where given away incredibly easily. This was an amazing routine, she is one of the greatest gymnasts in history so don't downgrade her.
I agree that she is one of the greatest gymnasts in history. NEWS FLASH, just because it was the 80's does not mean it was worthy of a 10. I'm not sure what your gymnastics credentials are, but I have 29 years of experience as a gymnast, coach, and judge.
No offense but if you are a judge you are not a very good one because you don't seem to know that the code of points has changed since the eighty's. In the eight's leg separation on things like tucked elements was not a deduction. Leg separation on most elements was not a deduction. Like I said this was the eighty's tens were given away very easily at both worlds and the Olympics, they let things slide a little, they did not need to let this slide however because it was not a mistake.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Uh, okay. Work on your grammer, and then you can work on your total lack of knowledge. Yes, I am aware that the code of points changes every four years. I am very aware of how things were done in 80's gymnastics. Like I said before, this routine was not worthy of a 10. Most 10's that were handed out in the "eighties" were awarded because of who the gymnast was, and because of their past accomplishments. Silivas release had no height, and her dismount was sub-par at best.
First of all my grammar was not good because I ran out of space to write what I needed to say. I have no lack of knowledge thank you, it is you that does. For, once again you are forgetting the 80's code of points, height on the dismount/release moves was not a deduction then. Her dismount was awesome, she did it that same way in the Olympics, got a ten on every one of her routines, and took home a well deserved gold medal on bars. In the COP back then her dismount was perfect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Her dismount was not perfect. I too ran out of space. I edited my sentences instead of mispelling words, and I still seemed to get my point across. This was not the best routine in this event.
No it was not the best routine, it was tied for the best routine. Her dismount was perfectly fine according to that code of points, if you separated your legs in tucked elements for crossed your legs in strait elements it was not seen as anything wrong.
yes i agree her dismount was sloppy in the air and on the stalter full twist on the low bar she didnt end the full in vertical, but back then the soviets and romanians always got "the benifet of the doubt" but Silivas was a wonderful gymnast, and i dont want to take anything away from her she was still top of the class in this field of gymnasts,,
Dana's bars didn't have the airtime on releases like some of the others-but her basics are superior to most. She hits her handstands, swings smoothly, flows from one element to the next-and her Stalder/Endo combo is gorgeous-love it. She of course nailed her dismount which was the main thing-don't move your feet.
I don't think it's a deduction if you need to adjust your grip to set up the next element-she did the same thing at Seoul with the same routine and scored a 10.00 every time.
I don't see it. And if they did it was very minor and I doubt the judges would have caught it at that angle. And anyway It's easy to catch minor form breaks on replays-and the judges didn't have that luxury back then.
I agree with you PhillyGal. They can say she didn't deserve a 10.00 until the cows come in. She got it-and she got the gold along with Fan Di. Fan's routine had more spectacular releases but if one wishes to nitpick you can see some minor mistakes within here routine as well-and she still got the 10.00. I don't have a problem with either.
Her feet did not come apart at :20. I watched it several times from the stalder full to glide kip. I think you're reaching. Her routine under that code was worth a 10.00 and routines with visible errors far worse than any you might see with Silivas were receiving 10.00s-even routines with hops on the landings. She made no mistakes-that's why she got the 10.00. It's not a deduction either to adjust your grip if you need to for the next element.
I heard that they did erect a number of sculptures of famous gymnasts including Silivas in Deva this year, trying to encourage their gymnasts to continue the tradition. BTW, Romanian head coach Forminte told the Chinese media that the reason Romanian gymnastics fell backward is because the girls are getting too "Westernized" and they need to be "coddled." The abuse allegations against former coaches did more lasting damage to Rom gym program than anything else.
,lodging and some education in Onesti and Deva but they can get that if they live with their parents anyway. Traveling is the only good thing, but they don't even get good medical care. It seems like they don't get anything back unless they get sponsors or do tours like in the U.S. and in Europe.
Nowadays they do get money for their medals. I know Sandra Izbasa received a new car. I could be wrong, but I think they receive 30000euros for gold.
In the days of Daniela Silivas it was different. Then the revolution of 1989 cam about, and for a while they even closed the center at Deva. So she had to retire.
I've heard that recently they've made some sculptures of famous gymnasts, but not for Daniela. What a pity! She is one of the greatest gymnasts ever.
Poor girl, I bet she wanted then to help her. Back then, did the gov. help you only if you won the all-around in an Olympics? Do they help the gymnasts now if they bring a medal home from an Olympics and world competitions after they retire?
I think the Romanian Gov, doesn't really help them at all.
They more use them, she actually lives in the US now.
I can't see how not winning all around gold would affect much, since she's one of the most prolific medalist's in Gymnastics history, 10 world medals, 10 European, and 6 Olympic, most of them Gold..
The Romanian Government was overthrown, the country was broke and the country was found to be in utter chaos and disrepair. They had food shortages and the condition of children's homes shocked the world. Friends of mine worked in the new children's homes. They said that Burchurest was 20 years behind the UK and the rest of the country 60yrs. A gymnast wasn't that important then. Shushunova never got her rewards from the Soviet government either, in the era of Glasnost and Perestroika.
I believe aside from the detailed account, that is exactly what I said.
I was born in 92 after the revolution, and only lived in Craiova through 96, most of my time was spent in the care of the Orthodox Church so I didn't know much of what was going on at the time, and I haven't been back.
Daniela Silivas is a legend of the Romanian gymnastics. I remember those times, I was a kid and she was our model. She was loved and appreciated at that time, what a petty we don't hear anything about her today!
Yes they are. I remember by the late 1990's to early 2000's true handstands seemed to almost disappear-but finally started making a comeback when they were truly or rewarded-or deducted if they did not hit that 12 'O Clock spot.
Well it's been nearly 20 years-the Nadia dismount was still the rage at that time. And I don't think it's as easy as it looks-it seems you need to generate height and distance moving forward-that's harder than dismounting swinging backward imo.
After releasing the bar it's the same flight element so I don't know if perhaps this is actually a Gnauk-I think I read somewhere that Maxi Gnauck was the first to perform the Comaneci-or front/half from a free hip. Steffi Kraeker did a a toe-on to a full twist which would be pretty cool even today. I wonder if a double twisting Comaneci is possible? Or a front half to from a toe-on to a double back? :)
audie83, Not only is she a phenomenal, stellar example of what this sport is about, I've had the privilege of working with her professionally and she's an admirable human being as well...just amazingly humble and low key considering her accomplishments.

They also pay for 4th place - 14000 euros, 5th - 10500 and 6th - 7000.
There are other prizes, from private donors. For her gold medal, Sandra Izbasa received a new car.
