I don't really care if it's japenese, your not going to be doing that much reading anyway.if an rpg's in japenese, you won't understand anything so it will fail. but release this in english anyway. >: (
It's not really like Wangan Maximum Tune. The driving physics are different from the arcade. This game plays more like Tokyo Extreme Racer. Two big differences:
It is entirely possible to blow your engine from overheating
The only way to beat your opponent is not to beat him to the finish, but to gain a certain amount of lead over him. It's not unlike the rival mode (I can't remember the actual mode name) in WMT where the objective was to overtake your rival
@AgentBLT I never played Tokyo Extreme Racer, but as I can see from YouTube videos the games look similar. They're both made by Genki, so very compatible.
The graphics in this PS3 game don't look too good to me compared to Maximum Tune.
I played lots of racing games: NFS, Midnight Club, Gran Turismo.
Is this game similar?
Also I have Initial D, is this game better or worse?
I've just started seeing Wangan Midnight today, but I guess I'm more of an Initial D guy anyway since I've been watching that for over a year now. My parents used to have a dark red 280Z which sadly died slowly in front of the house after many years of neglect. Maybe it's a sign...
Hey I need help on (black bird) series 3 new machine how do I keep my car from overheating on the 2nd race, and if you beat the game can you do a walk-through and upload them?
I would say a decent, but not top ranking. There isn't a whole lot to this game, but it's probably one of the better anime/manga inspired games out there. I have friends who don't like Initial D Arcades game physics. As a result, they tend to gravitate to this and Wangan Maximum Tune much more.
As a standard arcade racer, it fits the bill. It gravitates towards realism more than Maximum Tune. Out of all the ports for this game, this is probably the definitive one to get.
@AgentBLT Thanks, br. I'm not a big racing game player but I like one that's fun to play. I don't know, perhaps they call them arcade racers. How would you compare Wangan Midnight to , say, Midnight Club L.A.? I like Rockstar games so I got it but I haven't played it much.
I have not played Midnight Club, but I've played NFS Underground and Carbon. Compared to those two, Underground has more arcade like physics than this game IMO.
I imported my copy as you see here. So you judge for yourself by watching the video. There's enough english to allow for easy navigation, you just won't be able to understand what is happening in the story, that's all.
About $40 US, though that was two years ago. I don't know if the prices decreased from then. This was off ebay mind you. Other import sites might differ.
I'm thinking of shipping the game to Poland in Europe, but I wanted to ask a few questions first. Will I be able to play the game on my PS3? Is the game very challenging? Is it fun to play? Can you play it online from europe? Does it have any DLC that's only avaliable in Japan or something? Thank you in advance for all the answers :)
1. Yes, it will play. The PS3 is completely region free. My only concern is whether your TV (TV, not system) can handle NTSC encoding rather than the European standard of PAL. That is something I am unable to answer.
2. It takes practice, but this answer is subjective so it's hard for me to answer.
3. You can play online regardless of what type of account you have for PSN.
4. There's no DLC for this game that I know of. If there is DLC, you'll need a Japanese PSN account.
@AgentBLT Thanks for confirming this. I'm gonna make an order on this in the next week or so. Are you still playing it frequently? I know there were some spotty things about PSN and JAP imports. Not sure if this'll work over it.
@AgentBLT Playing any game online is fine, I play Gundam Senki 0081 online with my US PSN, and I use my JPN PSN to buy DLC and stuff. Unless it is a subscription MMO or something you should be fine.
I have tried using a JPN PSN account to download those extra cars for Extreme Stage, so I do know that works at the least. I'm curious if I can download GT5's DLC cars from an Asian PSN to a North American one since I've got an Asian DLC certificate.
@AgentBLT Well the question is do you have a Asian GT5 version? If not then it most likley, about 99.9% chance, will not work with the NA version of GT5. Although tif you download it with your Asian PSN you can use them on your other PSNs (Thats usually how we do it for Gundam Senki, because you can't copy the online play file).
I think I said this somewhere in the comments, but I'll say it again for you benefit. There is NO english version of this game. This game is already quite approachable for non-english speakers considering the majority of the text is in English. The only thing that is not are the scenarios, voice acting and the mission descriptions. If you play them enough times you can kind of guess what they expect from you though.
let me get out my troll food (I just can't help but feed them)
I wasn't talking about the game at all I was talking about the S30 Fairlady Z in real life and how that influenced the reaction in a manga. As for the engine it was a good engine in the 70s and stayed competitive into the 80s. Solid bottom end good reliability decent aftermarket support. The S30 was well built handled beautifully, balanced and light. The Z32 a nicer body? I would disagree but thats just me...
Continued...To address you're question about swapping the L28 into a Z32 (yes I know it was said with sarcasm and meant to be ridiculous but I will treat is serious any way). I can see no advantage to the swap. The L28 was built for a car that was about 2355# the z32 is around 3500#. The list goes on but I'm bored with this you would be better off sticking with the VG30 and fixing the cooling problems or swapping a SBC they fit with some effort.
You can blow your engine if you over rev it, especially if you hit the last gear. That is why this game is particularly difficult at times because you can't just pedal to the metal the entire time.
Yes. In that sense, that is correct. That's pretty much a given considering it's an anime game...except Maximum Tune 2 and 1 since those were slightly different storywise as I've heard.
Then again, Initial D Arcade does have some story elements from the Manga, but the game constantly makes references to you as a racer unlike Maximum Tune where they generally talk amongst themselves as characters.
How is blur anyways? I never bothered to try "Daddy's Mario Kart" (as they advertise it) anyways. Never appealed to me. Heck, if I wanted to play shift, I might as well play Forza or Gran Tursimo anyways. This game is just kind of nice to play once in a while
ok kids arguing over whether it is a 240 or 280Z is stupid it is neither, it's a Fairlady Z (S30). In Japan they came with an L20A (2.0L SOHC I6). The L28 was export markets only (if I am not mistaken US market only the UK only ever got the L24 and L26) thats why it is such a big deal that the car has one when he finds it in the junk yard. Another thing the 280Z had a different front bumper than the Fairlady, 240 and 260. Yes they are all built on the S30 chasy but they are not identical
As far as I know, it doesn't, but this game has more English already than compared to most Japanese games I've played such as Initial D Extreme Stage.
@hofmannsapprentice Im pretty sure its a 280z if it has any kind of relations to the wangan midnight series at all. cause there is no way ur gonna bore up a 240z stock engine to 3 or more liters.. and S30 is just the body type of the car. so sure its an s30 fairlady z but its still a 280z
@ProjectNeroStorm exactly what ive been trying to say 240z or 280z its the same body different engine it has the l28 so its a 280z. or actually since its bored maybee it should b called 310z
Uh, well the fact that this game has online battles should get you giddy enough. I haven't tried them yet considering my cars need to be tuned up way more than I currently have.
