  • this drink helped me quit smoking=)

  • I have been drinking yerba mate for years, i love it!

Saludos

  • Nice video :)

Im drinking Yerba Mate almost since 9 months, its awsome.

Greetings from a Polish guy in Austria :)

  • Nice video! Its good to see the Mate experience going around in the world! Greetings and congrats from Buenos Aires!

  • dude thats awesome to see you listening to manu chao!

  • Good mate tutorial!!

Cheers from Buenos Aires, Argentina (Mate Land)! [^_^]

  • I'm from Michigan and can relate to drinking Mate solo. At work when I was preparing it for myself in a very non-traditional way with a big filter basket at the top of a big coffee cup, essentially making it like green tea, some cool Lebanese guys came up to me and were like 'hey you drink mate! If you want a straw we can get you one.' I drink it now in a closer to traditional method, but I use a cup instead of a gourd and still solo =(. Nice choice of wardrobe, I'm a daily listener.

  • Genial!!! :D

    mate for the world :D

  • Thank you! Good and valuable video. Cheers from Poland!

BTW Mate is getting more and more popular in Poland. Most young people know what it is, you can find it in many small cafes and art clubs.

  • manu chao on the background, u are definitely OK in my book man.

  • TU MADRE ES TU PADRE

  • Thanks for sharing. I wish more would drink Mate' in my south-eastern location of the U.S. as well. I have lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil and my parents are European Portuguese which is where I get my exposure to Mate'.

    Dig the shirt!

  • Mato Grosso do Sul, dale!

  • Man! Mate and Democracy Now? If you are ever down here in California, we must get together and have some philosophical conversation over a good round of mate. By the way, excellent explanation of how to prepare a mate!

  • Very good! primer video que explica bien como empezar el mate, introduciendo el agua SIN la bombilla, en el "hueco". Puedo utilizar tu video en mi blog?

  • `Canarias´ wasn´t buy for Uruguayans?

  • We have to say that mate isn´t a drug!

  • @enzoac IT IS A DRUG. In the same way that coffee and cigarettes are drugs.

  • @rpm2004 no no

  • @ZYD29 I'm not saying drugs are bad, or mate is bad. I drink it all the time But the feeling you get when you drink it is because of chemicals it contains that alter you brain chemistry temporarily to achieved a desired effect. The definition of a drug.

  • @enzoac You're right, mate isn't a drug. It has no products or ingredients that alter the nervous system or elsewhere in the body. It's so natural as the juice of a fresh orange.

  • @BeatleMan14 Caffiene, theobromine...there's 2 already. I'm not saying that's a bad thing (I like it) but it's true

  • @rpm2004 Oh that kind of drug yeah, but it's not an ilegal drug as many people may think. It's like the chocolate, the coffe, the te, etc. But it doesn't stone you or something similar haha. That's what I wanted to mean :). As an Argentinian i like it too.

  • totally like this. my father is from argentina and ever since i was like 7 i drank it. then the years passed since i've drank it but now im starting to drink it more frequently.

  • Nice thermos... you should see mine :p it looks like its been through both world wars :)

  • MATE MATE MATE MATE :D

  • Canarias from Brasil sucks! :p

  • mmm mate!!!

  • Dude I love Maté so much. But I kinda just put all the hot water in at once and drink it till it's gone then refill. It's so good tho

  • nice vid. but the music is not from argentina or uruguay (mate countries).

  • is that hair because of drinkin' mate?

  • This was awesome. I enjoyed the lesson =)

  • cheers from Mexico.. here is the same thing i drink mate alone haha

  • You are so fabulous! Proud to be related to you. Will let you know how our Mate experience goes. Peter was very happy!

  • Jajaja same problem mate... in a big city like monterrey i thing they're a few mexicans people who drinked... of course they're uruguayos and argentinos here who chares that tradition.. but is dificult to chare with someone a conversation with a good mate

  • Allie, I'm from southern Brazil and you were spot on, bro...

  • Hahaha you're the best! :D

  • Thanks finaly I was able to drink maté without a mouth full of grit :-)

  • Thanks finaly I was able to drink maté without a mouth full of grit :-)

  • For the cold one, tereré, try Yerba Mate Kurupi, it's paraguayan. We realy like it here in Mato Grosso do Sul.

  • @pancho133 WRONG, its a mistake. MATE is originary of THE PARAGUAY, of the GUARANIES indians and of the missions. Do you know the MENSU?? Originary of the antique PARAQUARIA, Argentina not existed 400 years ago, PARAGUAY is the FATHER of the Argentina and of the pioners argentinians. ILEX PARAGUAYENSIS=MATE. Sorry man, I demand more respect for the truth. Paraguay, braves guarani peoples land...

  • :) Hello from Portugal!I like to drink mate too. Here in tuga we have mate in herb shops but I want original from Argentina and today I bought my genuine mate kit from the eBay and half pound of yerba. Cant wait to taste it.

  • Well same here. I'm the only one in my area who enjoys drinking yerba mate. That sucks... but mate helps me ;)

  • I agree with you Allie, thanx for the video. Yerba Mate is so great!

  • You may try at GOYERBAMATE web site they deliver yerba mate from USA to everywhere and the shipping costs are not expensive.

  • Tchê será que sai um mate?

  • sou brasileiro e nos sabemos a melhor maneira pra tomar esta bebida dos Deuses!! tou a brincar how often do you guys change your herb, we change it depending on how often were drinkin but at least 2x's a week!!

  • i love mate , u can add sugar so it doesnt taste as bitter

  • Very cool...but I don't like mate :P...you look more argentinian than me...and a little advice to all: don't drink it too hot and with too much frecuency coz that's can cause trachea cancer (not joke)

  • Drinking it for a few years now. Yerba mate rocks!

I introduced it to a couple of friends too. They liked it very much, but none of them actively drinks it. At the moment I have two brands at home: Rosamonte Especial and Kraus Organica. Both are pretty good. I also tried two variations of Aguantadora, which were also pretty good.

I always import it from a large webshop in Germany and let it ship to The Netherlands.

  • lol nigga said its like ganja hell yeah its it especially when u gather around not jus to drink mate but also to smoke ganja lol try it ppl !

  • you remember me dico bear from happy tree friends

  • Thanks for the explanations !

I'm french and love mate, though I only knew it as an infusion.

  • Canarias is harvested in Brazil and processed in Uruguay. It's not Argentinan whatsoever. You should never wet the pit and if you do ... just try to keep the shape of it. I hope you all get what i'm trying to say. I am horrible at explaining things lol

By the way, AllieCaulfield ... you're cute! lol

I like the fact that you drink mate and you're not south american!

I'm Uruguayan ... what part of Uruguay did you live in?

    -Natalia.

  • THE BEST YERBA IS A ARGENTINIAN: TARAGUI AND CBSÈ.

    buy.

    NICE VID.

  • @BedededeII and Nobleza Gaucha too! ;)

  • I LOVE YOUR ENGLISH, I LOVE CANADA.

    greetings from ARGENTINA!

  • :D where are you from? I mean, which city? ... Im spanish and I love mate, but Im living in Edmonton Canada...and nobody here Knows about mate... neither Manu Chao :(

where can I get mate in this boring city?.... any idea?.....

sorry, my english is pretty bad....

  • Vancouver.

  • I live in Edmonton too. I love mate. The best place to buy is at El Safadi Brothers, 11316 134ave. Or at one of the Italian Centre Shop ether at 10878-95 Street or at 5028 104A Street.

There is also a store just south of the whitemud on 66 st. by an Esso.

P.S. do not give up on this city. There is always live music somewhere, the metro cinema always plays interesting movies. The best place to rent any movies is the Vediodrome at 8001 102 ST. Just 2 blocks south of the 7-11 on whyte ave.

  • @BValensi Manu Chao is coming to seattle, take a trip and go see him hahaha OCT 12

  • @BValensi ebay.com

  • @BValensi David`s Tea has Mate I believe they are in Edmonton

  • @BValensi well you can go to a place named "adonis " it's lebanease store THEY HAVE PLENTY and i know that because right now im drinking matte with my mom and my sis

  • @BValensi Argentina started to export it a lot.

You might find it somewhere in canda.

  • I like your video, but I have one correction, Yerba Canarias is Uruguayan not from Brasil as you mention. The Name of Canarias come from the place where the manufacturer is located which is the Depatment of Canelones. It is called this way for all the natives from the Canari Island that lived in the area. Cool to see other people sharing our culture.

  • Actually, AFAIK, Canarias yerba mate is harvested in Brazil and processed in Uruguay, good yerba.

  • I went to Argentina and everytime somebody invited with "mate" I was plaaying Mario Bros with my smartphone

  • the pit is not without yerba mate but the least amount of Yerba Mate. if you pour to fill the cup it will be too strong and it will not stay consistent.

  • Where can I buy a cup, I have one. But it's made from clay, I'd like to buy one made out of wood.

I don't wanna wait 'til I go back to Chile,

An internet site would be nice :P

Where you can also buy a bombilla.

I found one site, but they only have Bombilla and yerba. But there's a place downtown where you can buy Yerba.

  • I prefer the cold version, called tereré, it's just normal yerba mate (i brew it with a tea ball), poured over a glass filled with ice cubes. Can be mixed with lemonade and honey.

  • Today is my first time drinking mate, yeeeiii! I've never tasted it before and I'm sure I did it right but it's definetly an aquired taste. The first couple of sips are really hard to swallow for me. Seriously. But I'm still getting used to it. I did notice an increase of energy wich is a plus for me in addition to all the health benefits I reseached about this drink makes me not want to give up on it one bit. In fact, I'm drinking it right now so CHEERS! Btw no 1 drinks it around here either.

  • Thank you for sharing this! I'm from Argentina and my friend from U.S.A. wanted to know how to drink it and it was difficult for me to explain him, so this video was really helpfull, thank you again! :D

  • Thanks! I just got introduced to yerba mate camping last weekend and I am already addicted!! :-) Ordered my gourd and been trying to figure out how to make the mate correctly... Fantastic instruction video... thanks for your help!

  • I love Ganja

  • too bad u don't have anybody over there willing to share mate with u...Manu Chao & Mate r such a good mix!! Their loss...;)

  • Yea. Great video! Too bad some people are so shallow that when they see something green and a lot of it their first thought is: DRUGS!!!

I nearly got fired from work when a co worker spotted me drinking yerba he ran stright to the boss and told him everything:) You don't know how hard was it to explain myself...

Yerba mate is great though! Don't care about the suspicious looks and drink it!

  • LA CONFUNDEN CON DROGA???!!!! Y pensar que aqui es muy común.

  • @ShivSilverhawk It's not illegal, but it is a drug.

  • you're argentino inside you...GRANDE RAYITO

  • Yerba canarias = mate uruguayo!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love yerba mate too. Good vid. Thanks!

  • i drink it hot ! all the time i should tri it at room temp

  • Botija Canarias is Uruguayan not Brazilian

Thanks for your interest in our culture

    Aguante Uruguay jaja bso

  • Aguante Uruguay

You should teast it because it is healthy and delicius

PD"Canarias la yerba de mi pais"

  • Where can I get one of those Thermos in USA specifically In Boston or probably online.

thank's dude your new Chilean friend

  • Drink that mate white boy!

  • King Nubert. Lord of all nubertons

  • Cheers. That was a very informational video.

  • Bien preparado te felicito por difundir nuestras costumbre argentinas Un saludo!!!

    Very good!!!!

Después me decis.

  • I feel very happy that people from northamerica thinks of teh south, I mean, till now I thought they see us as some kind of monkey-people living in the jungle, but you, drinking Mate, is... It makes me soo happy to see poeple intrested in our culture :'-)

    srry for my english ;)

  • Great vid! I just got back from BA and a little boat trip to Uruguay and was fascinated with mate. So I bought one. I made it last night after getting back and really didn't know what I was doing. This vid should put me in the right direction.

  • Iam from Uruguay...And been drinking Mate since i was 5.

  • you were listening to Manu Chao and drinking mate that's awesome =D

  • Yo compartiria yerba mate contigo. :) Thanks for the video; it was very helpful!

  • Maestro!

    10 puntos!!!

  • I first drank this in a very special region of Brazil. It was served cold (terere) in a cowhorn and I drank it after horseback riding with some cowboys (Pantaneiras). I've tried to make this at home with the cowhorn I bought, which doesn't really allow me to "create the mountain". Is it supposed to be quite gritty?

  • I've had terere in a cowhorn and it's still possible to create the mountain. I have never really had a problem with a gritty taste, but it could be due to a number of factors: the type yerba, some have twigs, the amount of yerba controls how bitter the taste, and a broken bombilla - not properly filtering the mate. For me the first drink always tastes a little gritty but that should go away. Also if you prepare incorrectly.

and in the south of south america everybody drinks mate at the street...

  • That drink is originally from Argentina

  • You wrong dude, is originally from Uruguay.

  • gosh, i thought u were drinking cold water...my bad...haha...mate+hot water we call Chimarrão here..

  • Drinking tereré (how we call mate+cold water here) and listening Manu Chao! Awesome!

If you go to central-west of Brazil or to Paraguay, look for Yerba Mate KURUPÍ...the best one!

    Hugs from Brazil...

  • i love putting a good amount of honey in my mate, otherwise it's unbearably strong lol

  • I'm sure you have.... but did you ever add mate de coca to that yerba? now thats a booster!

  • I should give it a try

  • I've been drinking mate for a little over a month now and absolutely love it. I'm looking for a larger mate and the one you're using looks like a nice size. Do you know of any site that sell nice mates that size?

  • I was introduced to Mate by a Uraguyan friend.

Now, I am on my second kilo. Its great stuff. I haven't had coffee since I started drinking mate, now if I can just quit drinking Dr. Pepper...

  • Hi fellow,

this drink too is prepared and very popular in Rio Grande do Sul (a state in southern Brazil) and neighboring countries such as Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and southern Chile.

    Is called of chimarrao.

  • I'm Argentinian and grew up watching people preparing mate. It seems that every person has their own technique. Yours seems so sophisticated! :)

I personally never saw anybody being so meticulous about it.

    Good video though.

  • I love Mate .. I'm proud to be half paraguayan and Argentinian in my blood. Thanks of the vid.!!
