  • Is it scale???

  • @4202EJW I believe it is semi scale as it is a Rail King engine, not a premier.

  • Does it look good with scale cars?? I am decideing what kind of MTH steamer I should get (I am a teen and this would be my first?!).

  • @4202EJW It looks OK with scale cars, but of course not as good as a scale engine does. It is a great loco for it's price. Sounds good, looks good, smokes good and pulls like a mule...lol

  • @puttrainguy it is not scale, however it is pretty close, and it looks nothing like premier, big detail difference

  • @ELMSLines Did I appear to need corrections Everett ? I previously said it was semi scale- railking, not premier. And I'm well versed in the differences. But thanks for stopping by... So glad to hear you enjoyed the video so much.

  • @puttrainguy i was pointing out that it is quite close to scale(extremely close)

  • Sweet train, hey do u know what the default smoke output lvl is, like is it light medium or thick ( i know those aren't the terms they use) -thx

  • Thanks, yeah it is a sweet loco for a Railking... I believe the default setting is MED. on the DCs, there is LOW/MED/HIGH.... I always run them full bore !!!

  • Oh and FYI I just won this engine with 3 light up pass. cars, Z-1000 trans., 31"x51" Realtrax loop, lock-on and K-lineTrestle set in original boxes for $237, did I get a good deal? LOL srry, I'm just excited for my first MTH train set!!!!

  • Yes, you got a pretty good deal... I have the passneger set it came with, they also made it in a freight set. I also picked up the add on pass cars... nice set for a railking set.

  • Is that rugged rails? Can you buy the loco of the set seperatly?

  • It's railking and I don't know if the loco is available separately, you'd have to check the MTH web site.

  • @iinlovejameslafferty Some train stores will let you break up a set. For example: I just wanted the 3 PRR Madison cars, but not the engine. The Manager at Arnie's Trains in Garden Grove California said: "Sure..no problem." I had no idea that train stores would let you do that. Never hurts to ask.

  • @iinlovejameslafferty After a fair amount of digging, I found that this Rail King Rugged Rails 2-8-0 Consolidation engine was also available solo, not part of a set. The product code is 33-1012-1, though it may be tough to find now. I've got my heart set on the "replacement" for this engine, the newer MTH Ten Wheeler. I was in love with this stuff 15 years ago as a little kid and now I'm getting sucked back into it!

  • @icjefferys Awesome! Thanks for the info! And are you talking about the vintage 4-6-0 they have now? It's a nice locomotive!

  • @iinlovejameslafferty I'm talking about the 4-6-0 they offer in starter sets, which seems to be very similar to this 2-8-0. Originally I was thinking I'd try to break up a set to get a 4-6-0, but getting these starter set engines solo doesn't make a whole lot of sense. $200 seems to be a fair price for the engines while the whole sets are only $280. Break up a set yourself by selling what you don't want on Ebay. I'm thinking I'll sell the RealTrax (I'm using Fastrack) and keep the rest!

  • I love that little consolidation! It was my first, and my family jokes about how it smokes better than locos costing 10 times as much. I liked seeing it on your nice layout. Coda looks very supportive too. :)

  • Thanks Doug, thought you'd like it...

  • Glad it worked out for you, it is an awesome smoker.. if you use the DCS, you can set the smoke volume to different levels and also change the chuff rate. I have mine set for 4 chuffs per rev and smoke volume on high , so it's pretty maxed out.

  • You got it to smoke ? what was wrong ?

  • Don't know Buddy... Your whistle and bell sound a bit different too... Mine smokes like a bandit...

  • MTH trains have awesome smoke units! I have had my smoke alarm go off. Its not that bad of a smell though.

  • how big is your layout cuz it seems you a great variety of buildings and mountains in a small space and it looks fabulous!

  • thank you very much. My layout is only 19 x 7, but I do have alot packed in the small space.. more work to be done also...layouts are never really "done"... lol

  • Do you have smoke alarms in the house? May pay to turn them off. :)

  • dont have one in the garage.. I do have to open the door to the outside after just a few minutes running though.
