I love this song, and the thing that makes it great is the harmony of the voices, it gives it a feel of a song that is being sung in a by a workforce or something. That is the thing that most artist who record this forget and then they add other stuff that detracts from the impact of the song
@Dewalq that's the whole point of the song: it's sung by gangs with pick-axes and suchlike. The regular rhythm helped the men to keep in time with each other. It's since been adopted by the national rugby team, since Rugby World Cup 1995. ; -)
I am so sorry that no one has released the film "Dingaka" on DVD. I have the soundtrack on vinyl and that version, in the context of the story of the film, will bring tears to your eyes.
at 1 minute 10 seconds i thought this guy had RUG RATS playing on TV in the background when he recorded this track.... but now i realise its part of the music. that's sad... right there it ruins the experience for me totally. and just as u begin to hear the women singing their parts it guts to that bongo/rug rats shit and .... yes ruins it for ME.
I saw the IPI TOMBI Show on Stage in London LIVE in 1975 and it still remains my favourite Musical EVER.This Peter Gabriel effort is a 'modern' take which is good,BUT not as good as the original by Gail Lakier & Bertha Egnos who wrote it.
i love this song...i heard it in INVICTUS....and i search for it without even knowin its name....thanks a billion for posting....south african songs are great.....
ive been trying to re-find this song for years -thanks so much for uploading it-i love this sooo much -i thought i may never hear it again -its the best peter gabriel song ever in my opinion and the best version of shosholza ever also
This was the track that was playing on my car's stereo when Mr. Gabriel's limo parked next to us outside the concert venue the first time I saw him in concert during the Playtime Tour. The rear window rolled down and he listened to hear what we were playing then he rolled away towards the VIP gate.
I believe this is the exact recording used in the South African film "The Gods Must Be Crazy". I've been looking for this recording for years. It feels like the whole world is contained within this music, and as Arthur C. Clarke would say, I find it almost unbearably moving. Thank you.
Yes, even I noticed that. You'd have to talk to Mr.G about that, I just did a direct copy off the vinyl and only use a light click remover before uploading.
@draceena I strongly believe you made a huge mistake by removing the click! the clicks are all the vinyl's beauty and authenticity . despite this it's a beautiful record with strong emotions
Very cool. The music in this song made me remember a dream I had last night. Thanks

manolard 2 months ago
@manolard it was good, wasn't it? Not slick, not sophisticated, just a nice, uncomplicated film
skatlammetjie 2 months ago
@skatlammetjie indeed an outstandig movie.
But today's pepole can sadly not see the beauty in it.
The earth has gone much smaller since then.

So fuckin' straight music.
I use to play it on my headphones, loud.
That clears my mind and make me take focus to the important things in my life.

That is 80's sound and that is Peter Gabriel sound.
2 good reasons for the strong bassline. . :-)
I love this kind of music!
