I'd say if someone had never heard the earlier stuff this video is absolutely a perfect place to begin. Hooks my heart everytime. It may not be the best but the song is perfect.
Classic song. Classic, timeless performance, the Boss at his best. Brings out the best in his voice and the meaning of the lyrics. It's good to have it back!
This song is SO MUCH BETTER SLOW. It truly gets the meaning across. I see how youthful exuberance wants to make everything fast, but Thunder Road is so much more dramatic and suspenseful slow. I enjoy every dramatic moment!
@drohegda.......i was pretty much forced into going to this concert that night, i had never really heard much of his stuff b4 this point, my bro had a spare ticket and had no 1 free to go so i got roped in, that night i had a musical overhaul of the way i thought and listened to music for the rest of my life.....35 years on i dont leave the house with out his music with me......
@jayshere1973 i thank you so much jayshere1973 , it beauftiful to hear your feelings on what was a night in musical history ,and you were present.their. Drohegda
Quiet similar to jashere I had never heard of him either, I was only there because my lady [now my wife] had to work late, but a friend of mine was over from Dublin to review the concert for the Irish Times and he had two press tickets so nothing to lose I thought.
The lights went black just as we sat as if they had waited for us and then this very faint harmonacy started to play and a very dim light lit up a berry in the middle of the stage and the rest you know... what a show
My father is from New Jersey and he was a huge Springsteen fan. So I'm a big fan, too. Thunder Road is our song. I've always loved this record, it's like a little movie: "The screen door slams, and Mary's dress sways ... " My father used to cry, dance with me, and then say, "When you get married and you drive off in a Cadillac, I'm going to run after you."
The Boss gives everything in every song and every performance....You can feel the honesty and passion in his voice.....He leaves it all out there on the stage....
thank you, bruce. for having the courage to let the music inside you come out...so we can be reminded that we are not as alone as we might have thought.
@brumph123 All of todays music will. The "noise" of our generation that some people claim is music which is really stuff they threw together in 5 minutes out of law and paying media corporations to speak well of them. This, however, is forever.
@ghostoftomjoad1 I've listened to this song how many thousands of times over the last 36 years (omg!), but I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as if it were the first time I heard it.
what an absolute ledgend i would of loved to c this done live i was at the hyde park london calling show and i would of been over the moon if he did this but he did play no surrender and first time i have ever seen glory days live
Is it just me, or is it astounding to think that these lyrics were written by the boss over 25 years ago... i'm 27 now... and they are so profound to me, yet they're almost as old as i am.... the epitomi of a timeless classic. My dad raised me on Bruce, so thankfully, given timeless classics, when my Pa passes, i'll constantly be reminded of my dads great work by this awesome song. Thank you Dad, and thank you Bruce. LONG LIVE THE BOSS!!!
Along with 'Tangled Up In Blue' by Bob Dylan,'For Whom The Bell Tolls' by Metallica and 'Rosalita(Come Out Tonight)' by Springsteen this is the greatest song of all time
Best song ever written, no doubt. Roy really does his job and this video proves that you don't need nothing more than a Boss and a piano to get the best version of the best song ever.
Hello, I sent this across the miles and the ocean to the love of my life one night, it just sums up everything about her, except the part where he sings "you ain't a beauty, but hey, you're allright", she was the most beautiful, most precious thing in the world to me. I had the vision of the picket fence, the kids, her on the porch, bursting with love for each other. We split up one year ago, without what seemed a real explanation on her part. I'll always love her
I've been listening to the Tortoise and Bonnie Prince Billy version heaps. It's pretty awesome. This version reminds me of how Tom Waits writes ballads. It's obvious that they've influenced each other. Great song.
He's 26 to be exactly, but it's still amazing that somebody this young could write all these masterpieces. I'm only 16 but Bruce is my all time idol, been to 8 concerts and everytime I hear a song like this I get goosebumps. Especially from the 1978 concerts, because these are the best in my opinion, they're so raw and full with emotion and energy. If I could have one wish in my whole life it is to travel back in time to 1978.
I really was born too late. My friends rabnt and rave about how awesome the charts are and-yeah, there are ocassionally some good songs. I'm not saying there aren't, I have a bunch on my iPod. But...this. This is real music. This is about hopes and dreams, about a broken past and a better future. It's tender and sweet, wistful, beautiful. Thanks, Bruce. :) <3
@MillieInAction Touche' - Except, I was not born too late. My first live show was the summer of 1973. Jersey Shore, Fat City in Seaside Heights to be exact. I (among many others) knew he would be what he became. I think we knew before he did--but, I know he knew he was better than the rest. The fans did the rest for him.
