  • That was terrifying as heck.

  • To be honest, this add kind of gave me the creeps

  • People buy PC because they're reliable, affordable, and versatile in their applications.

People buy Apple because all their stupid friends are buying it.

  • @iruparatso no, people buy apple because they work, they don't require reboots and restarts and virus removal and you can literally do anything with a mac. once you use one, you wonder why on earth you never did before. they're about 20 years ahead of PCs in their design and user interface, and they just glide into your life without being a hindrance like a PC. how often do you replace a PC? Answer: enough to spend more than one Mac. I'm a UI designer. I know what I'm talking about.

  • Apple has the best ads ever.

  • did anyone see this with the snowflake icon?

  • @Exarion, Steve jobs actually hated this commercial and didn't want to run it.

  • that scared the bejeezus out of me.

  • People without The Holy Ghost connection to Father through Salvation in Christ marching to their destiny?

  • @CyberAngel77: No.

  • lol, this is the thing that got steve jobs fired from apple.

  • I remember this commercial when it originally aired in 1985 and thought that it was much too creepy for Apple! I loved the "1984" ad from the previous year! Oh, and btw, Steve Jobs does not have an autobiography! The new book is a biography!

  • Wow, that is rather creepy and disturbing... Surreal and abstract.

  • I love the concept, but the execution could have been better; then again, it was 1985.

  • I don't get why this is such a horrible commercial, it actually seems to have a pretty strong message to me.

I mean, it's insulting to corporate lifestyle not really corporate workers....

  • Reminds me of all the GOP candidates except Ron Paul!

    Step in line you Neocons!

  • Defenitley not they're better moment in ads

  • Came here after reading the book XD

  • Thumbs up if you came here after reading Steve Jobs' autobiography.

  • @Vicegerent *biography

  • this was indeed done to get corporate managers switch to macintosh from IBM.

  • 結構好きかも。IBMに悪いけどw

  • this is really creepy and twisted. wtf were they thinking?

  • @manofsuds7 read the book and you will find out how Jobs and Scully felt about the ad.

  • creepy commercial

  • I've seen the 1984 ad many times, but didn't know about this one. So dark I LOL'ed!

  • @007zen Probably it was made because by the mid-1980s, IBMs and IBM clones were running away with the business and office markets for computers. Apple had a home computing following and a lot of school computer types in their corner, but in business were losing the fight badly to IBM and IBM compatible machines by then.

  • The 1985 commercial was better. Amazing for when it came out. This is just tacky

  • I hated both commercials. Creepy downers with simplistic messages.

  • :0

  • Reminds me of the style of Leni Riefenstahl-movies... creepy

  • What a commercial! Yes, I'm in the minority, but I love the rebellious, anti-establishment vibe of this ad. It's a classic Apple theme, if a bit heavy-handed. It's also slightly trippy, too, and no doubt there was a need to try and top the legendary "1984" Super Bowl ad.

  • Office workers are lemmings. Totally agree with Apple. }:8]

  • 怖い

  • this is the worst commercial ever.

but it makes we want to look into a mac :-)

  • Comment removed

  • well this definately is a creepy and great commercial, but since everyone wants an iPhone are the iPhone users now the lemmings we see in the commercial?

  • wow. Apple realy knows how to make a creep fest. This probolly made the people watching piss in their chair.

  • I'm serious, this is the most beautiful advertising I have ever seen

  • This as is showing the obama supporters!

  • @DrXIII it high-ho from snow white this is just a creepy version

  • I need to know the name and artist of this song.

  • @DrXIII Thats fucked up why do you NEED to know hahaha messed up man,

  • I like how its the oppisite now apple users are lemmings

  • @mishaka768 It's a super-creepy version of "Hi Ho" from Snow White

  • This is sad, as this is now Apple.

The guy who doesn't walk off the edge, is a Mac-to-PC converter.

  • What is that song in the clip? Can I find it?

  • "YEAH IM SO DIFFERENT AND INDIE SINCE I USE A MAC AND NOT A CORPORATE MACHINIST WHORE PC" - Every Mac user ever.

    So trendy.

  • Ken Segall is right. The new Motorola Xoom ad is more like this one than the "1984" ad Apple ran a year before. Both insult existing users.

I'll be very interested to see if Motorola has truly created anything new and different the way Apple has.

  • @moeskido The Motarola Xoom was a very interesting ad to see! It shown how Apple has become as powerful as IBM at the time of the "1984" ad. Did anyone notice how the guy was reading George Orwell's "1984" on his Xoom tablet? I like how the white earphones, traditionally associated with the iPod were being worn, as well as the simple whiteness which Apple advertising tends to keep to.

  • @MrRiceJelly The Xoom ad was full of obvious, clue-hammer references to Apple. Interesting only in the level to which they stooped to imitate.

And is Apple really as powerful as IBM was? Do you work with mainframe computers in large corporate installations?

  • @moeskido It's not about power as in their products, it's about the power of their advertising and the size of their customer base. It's also to do with the context of the time. IBM were the largest company in the world for computing at the time - which is why Apple attempted to show how having an apple product can make you an individual! Now, we're in an Apple-driven world! And I must admit to owning some Apple products myself, but Apple appears to have worked its way into today's culture.

  • That was horrible

  • They're all walking to the apple store.

  • How ironic that most apple users today are lemmings.

  • Yes, because all non-Apple users are mindless drones following what their providers tell them, and the Apple users are unique and different...

    ...oh wait...

  • @macgyver2210 Remember that this was produced at a time when IBM was the main computer company!! Although now that Apple is sucessful as it is now, they seem to have changed their values!

Now, having an Apple product makes you part of today's culture, whereas back in the 1980's, Apple used to stand for offering a difference to society. It's a shame that Apple's values changed!

  • MD-DOS was horrible in the 80's.

  • Well that was depressing.

  • this is what dr william pierce is talking about, LEMMINGS!

  • "On January 23rd, Apple Computers will announce the Macintosh Office."

Um, didn't YOU just announce it?

  • Comment removed

  • Great commercial. The point of it is not that Apple was falling to their deaths by IBM. They're saying that people were just blindly following everyone else, and buying IBM computers. Then one person takes off his blindfold, and sees what Apple had, and how it is better but not as popular.

  • This is freakin scary!!

  • apple can kiss my shiny metal ass

  • oh the delicious irony

  • It's like watching Disney with your eyes clothes and while high while your VCR eats whatever tape you put in it.

  • Hey lets get an Ipod which is 100 dollars more then other MP3 players with the same space and features!

  • @DaveOfTheDead94 Prove it.

  • @SlightyDisturbedNBK

    Sony Walkman vs Ipod Nano.

  • How depressing.

  • i think they're portraying them as lemmings for going to work WITHOUT the office suite

  • Unbelievably ironic, isn't it.

  • @houou100 how is it ironic?

  • @bobbytomorow If you have to ask, you must be an apple dickrider.

  • I guess I'm a lemming...

  • Wow, exactly what is happening at the Foxconn factory where employees making apple products are committing suicide because the conditions are so bad.

    gizmodo.com/5542527/undercover-report-from-foxconns-hell-factory

  • irony at its best!

  • Apple lemmings.. so true :P

  • I actually thought this was a perfect video description of the modern apple fan ass.

  • Seems like mac is herding the new lemmings...How times change!

  • Wow. It's amazing how somehow saying "communist" somehow didn't change the scientific evidence. You should try it again. Only, this time, say that poverty and starvation are a communist plot too. Maybe you can make that go away with uneducated rhetoric as well.

  • @Alvin691 You are a fucking retard.

  • that is going to haunt my nightmares

and yet I have the strange urge to watch it again O.e

  • I like it really much!

  • Talk about the pot and the kettle. Everyone knows how restrictive Apple is about licensing 'their' property... even to the end users. You don't buy an Apple, you lease it.

Apple users are far more like a following herd of lemmings clambering to buy whatever Steve puts out next than Linux or even M$ users.

  • users pretends simplicity and easy of use and Apple gives those things. Plain and simple. But if you want to write that mac users iPod users iPhone users and now iPad users are all lobotomyzed.....the world is moving far ahead from this kind of stereotypes.

  • Their first ad was good because it implied people breaking free. This ad just says you are a lemming for not using Apple, and that's why it fails.

  • that was mad creepy

  • those are the Intel people walking and falling....

  • thye should make more creepy commercials like that

  • wow that was a very creepy "high ho" song 0.0

  • While it lacks the impact of '1984', this is still a decent, well-executed commercial.

  • it takes some time because YouTube sucks!

  • Its because of that horses dick inside your mother

  • because youtube has a moron detector software, and automatically blocks comments created by morons

  • The moron detection software must be faulty seeing as how yours managed to get through :P

    xP

  • lol u rock man

    one love

  • apple in the 80 had the fucking craziest commercial ever its like a crack head directed it

  • This is dark.

  • Apple motivating people through fear since 1985. Buy an Apple or you'll get viruses. Buy an Apple of you'll fail in business. Buy an Apple or your a nerd.

Buy into our hate commercials and buy an Apple.

  • Microsoft is such a good company. They are perfect there rookies campaign shows a little girl uploading a picture of her fish. Microsoft is open with all there products so they must be a better company. Now think again about Microsoft?

  • What has Apples fear adds have to do with M$. Microsoft's unethical behavior isn't a green light for Apple creating adds based on fear mongering.

  • When this aired during the 1985 Super Bowl, it was so misinterpreted that it actually angered some corporate leaders. They claimed it made it seem as though their businesses led to death. lol, it's just a freaking commercial.

It is sort of stupid though, nothing like the Oliver Stone ad from a year earlier.

  • one of the most powerful commercials of all time

  • theres something really disturbing about that commercial

  • this commercial is scary as hell...

  • revolutionary

  • Devolutionary. Welcome to modern world of fear politics.

  • i dont think that commercial is bad y does everyone hate it so much

  • Well let me point things out for ya.

    1. It's dark

    2. There are people falling down there deaths

    3. How is this supposed to promote Mac?

  • Well let me point things out for ya.

    1. It's cool!

    2. There are people falling down there deaths because of Microsoft.

    3. And if you don't want to be a Microshitter you should buy one!

  • @thomashome05 Actually it was 1985 so they were falling to their deaths because of IBM. Of course while Apple was being condescending to potential consumers and trying out a billion bad ideas that lead to having to be bailed out by Microsoft a decade and a half later, Bill Gates and his crew were making Windows, and eventually Windows 3.0 which took over the world and the reason why Microsoft remains on top. Had apple stayed the course, the world would be very different.

  • the othher apple commercial that everyone loves is dark also. and a quesion is hardly a point
