@iruparatso no, people buy apple because they work, they don't require reboots and restarts and virus removal and you can literally do anything with a mac. once you use one, you wonder why on earth you never did before. they're about 20 years ahead of PCs in their design and user interface, and they just glide into your life without being a hindrance like a PC. how often do you replace a PC? Answer: enough to spend more than one Mac. I'm a UI designer. I know what I'm talking about.
I remember this commercial when it originally aired in 1985 and thought that it was much too creepy for Apple! I loved the "1984" ad from the previous year! Oh, and btw, Steve Jobs does not have an autobiography! The new book is a biography!
@007zen Probably it was made because by the mid-1980s, IBMs and IBM clones were running away with the business and office markets for computers. Apple had a home computing following and a lot of school computer types in their corner, but in business were losing the fight badly to IBM and IBM compatible machines by then.
Jobs was a hypocrite and liar. He didnt care about the people in China etc., he was a selfish man and i wouldnt wonder if he was a pedophile. He sold his soul to he devil and his first apple for 666,66 Dollar and this should tell us everything and what the logo really means! But now he is dead, waiting for his righteous judgement. Why are people praising him like he is a "god"?? How foolish. He was a part of the NWO.
What a commercial! Yes, I'm in the minority, but I love the rebellious, anti-establishment vibe of this ad. It's a classic Apple theme, if a bit heavy-handed. It's also slightly trippy, too, and no doubt there was a need to try and top the legendary "1984" Super Bowl ad.
well this definately is a creepy and great commercial, but since everyone wants an iPhone are the iPhone users now the lemmings we see in the commercial?
@moeskido The Motarola Xoom was a very interesting ad to see! It shown how Apple has become as powerful as IBM at the time of the "1984" ad. Did anyone notice how the guy was reading George Orwell's "1984" on his Xoom tablet? I like how the white earphones, traditionally associated with the iPod were being worn, as well as the simple whiteness which Apple advertising tends to keep to.
@moeskido It's not about power as in their products, it's about the power of their advertising and the size of their customer base. It's also to do with the context of the time. IBM were the largest company in the world for computing at the time - which is why Apple attempted to show how having an apple product can make you an individual! Now, we're in an Apple-driven world! And I must admit to owning some Apple products myself, but Apple appears to have worked its way into today's culture.
@macgyver2210 Remember that this was produced at a time when IBM was the main computer company!! Although now that Apple is sucessful as it is now, they seem to have changed their values!
Now, having an Apple product makes you part of today's culture, whereas back in the 1980's, Apple used to stand for offering a difference to society. It's a shame that Apple's values changed!
Great commercial. The point of it is not that Apple was falling to their deaths by IBM. They're saying that people were just blindly following everyone else, and buying IBM computers. Then one person takes off his blindfold, and sees what Apple had, and how it is better but not as popular.

Reminds me of all those who believe in global warming, ready to walk off the cliff for Obama's new "Green" economy. Take off your blindfold and see it is a Communist ruse, green on the outside and RED to the core.
Wow. It's amazing how somehow saying "communist" somehow didn't change the scientific evidence. You should try it again. Only, this time, say that poverty and starvation are a communist plot too. Maybe you can make that go away with uneducated rhetoric as well.
Talk about the pot and the kettle. Everyone knows how restrictive Apple is about licensing 'their' property... even to the end users. You don't buy an Apple, you lease it.
Apple users are far more like a following herd of lemmings clambering to buy whatever Steve puts out next than Linux or even M$ users.
users pretends simplicity and easy of use and Apple gives those things. Plain and simple. But if you want to write that mac users iPod users iPhone users and now iPad users are all lobotomyzed.....the world is moving far ahead from this kind of stereotypes.

When this aired during the 1985 Super Bowl, it was so misinterpreted that it actually angered some corporate leaders. They claimed it made it seem as though their businesses led to death. lol, it's just a freaking commercial.
It is sort of stupid though, nothing like the Oliver Stone ad from a year earlier.
@thomashome05 Actually it was 1985 so they were falling to their deaths because of IBM. Of course while Apple was being condescending to potential consumers and trying out a billion bad ideas that lead to having to be bailed out by Microsoft a decade and a half later, Bill Gates and his crew were making Windows, and eventually Windows 3.0 which took over the world and the reason why Microsoft remains on top. Had apple stayed the course, the world would be very different.
That was terrifying as heck.

Ken Segall is right. The new Motorola Xoom ad is more like this one than the "1984" ad Apple ran a year before. Both insult existing users.
