  • like spider legs, very frustrating condition.. :-c

  • I've had this condition since my teen years, I'm now in my 40's, I also yanked the thick hairs on top of my head, eyelashes and eyebrows.... several years ago when Lilash came out on the market I tried it and it worked beautifully, then I got a condition called Blepharitis and could not do Lilash anymore due to the irritating effect it had; I am right now on antibiotics topical and oral, also Latisse this one is to replace the lashes, it has not worked like Lilash does, lashes grow like spider

  • First step to try fight trich is by accepting that you have it! It took me three and a half years. And I doing sooooo much better. I really hope that you can also accept it and just stay positive, tht is the MOST important thing to do :))

  • I have trichotillomania with autism and it just makes thing a lot worse for me. I just don't get why when my parents tell me to stop, it doesn't help at all. -_-

  • @StarBoy62 I use a tangle therapy. It keeps my hands busy and hightens my brain function.

  • I do it. But I like to find thick hairs (I have thin hairs) and rip them apart like split ends :-0

  • @jodirene I feel ya on the military thing, unfortunately it flared back up during my mos qual; I even got a couseling statement for it... Pretty embarrassing to be put on blast likethat by the platoon xP. Just give it time, as the hair grows back it thickens again

  • Mandy you are beautiful inside and out and so brave for doing this. You are right, your identity os not all about hair that is only apart it! Much love!

  • I'm 14 years old and I have this/: I pull in the back of my head on top I always wear a puff for my bangs to cover it in the back because I am so embarrassed to wear my hair down): it's not big it's not small , but it's the size of a quarter and I've tried alot of different hair styles): can someone please please tell me some techniques I could use): I really want my hair back so I can feel pretty again):

  • so brave, incredible, i can´t say this in public. i have the same but in eyes and hands, and is too difficult to control.

  • thats a good thing i usd to pull my eyebrows put dont any more

  • i been do ing this for five years stll doing it my lashes keep comeing back thoug

  • She can go two to three days without pulling?! Bloody legend, she is!

  • why do these programs only show women...when men have the disorder too

  • Dang. I can't watch these videos without pulling...

  • I've had this issue since I was 13, I am now 25 and I still pull my hair out, She is so very brave to show her head. I have dealt with it because my fiance has accepted me. In the end..."it's just hair"

  • its a self soothing disorder its your way of coping with stress!!!! jjust like biting fingernails!!!

  • i have had it since 7 years old this is really hard to deal with

  • I'm 12. My friends have turned on me because I have bald spots and they dont want 2 be around me. I cut myself. Im teased at school, I hate my life. My parents want to put me in a mental hospital. I'm not crazy, I promise. I'm in a gifted class, and I can't take it... Can someone please help me...?

  • @mebear45

Those aren't real friends, real friends would support you and not abandon you, you're MUCH better off without them.

The next time you go to the doctor for whatever reason make sure to bring it up your trich., don't hesitate either, remember they are there to help you or ask to talk to your school's psychologist, drop by whenever. They too are there to help you with WHATEVER you have. Just remember the sooner you tell them about your problem the better you'll feel.

  • @mebear45

By not telling them you're just becoming more and more miserable. When you do tell them about it you'll feel like you've got a weight lifted off your shoulders. The school psychologist or doctor will explain to your parents what this trich is, hopefully it will then open their eyes when they hear it come out of the mouth of a professional and support you to get through this.

PLEASE don't be embarrassed, there are TONS of people that have this problem including myself and I'm...

  • @mebear45

A 21 year old male. I've had it ever since I was like 12, I only found out what it was just a year ago.

  • @XxHooksxX you are lucky. my mom has it, and didnt know till i told her...only because i have it. and i didnt figure it out till i was 30, and i have a masters in psych.

what is worse, i went to a dermatologist...who just told me....stop....which just sent me back to trying to hide the condtion

  • A lot of good research pointing towards N-acetylcysteine as a treatment for trichotillomania, it's a relatively cheap amino acid available in most health food stores.

  • I think its terrible when someone says THERE IS NO CURE, THERE IS NO HELP!!!!!!!!! Give a support to to this ppl. There's always a way. Dont give up EVER!!!

  • @feelcool94

Since the video was made (some time prior to early 2008 I guess) there has been good research pointing towards N-acetylcysteine as a treatment for trichotillomania, it's a relatively cheap amino acid available in most health food stores.

  • I pull my nose hair out, it's awesome, specially when you get 5 or 6 in one pull lol.

  • @ArmandoXIII

Thats not cool man... i hear for cases that ppl get big infections by doing that and stay without their nose cartilage

  • @ArmandoXIII Nosehair? I would sneeze my nose of! O_O

  • I am 51 and I was about 8 or 9 when I realized I was doing this all the time. I remember a kid that sat by me in school realizing that there were a lot of long blond hairs all over the floor by our desks. I told him that I had cleaned my brush out. The hairs that I most like to pull are the ones that have texture to them. I love the real wavy ones. Just to let you younger ones know...if you keep doing this for years in the same spot...it will eventually stop growing back for you.

  • I have had Trich since I was 8 or 9 (40 now). When I was 19 I decided to get my head and neck tattooed so I would always have to be bald. I have an amazing "tribal" style dragon on my right side of my head and down my neck.

I try to shave every other day that way if I do get the urge I would have to work at it (tweezers) and that requires having to stop what Im doing instead of being able to pull at will.

Fairly extreme way to slow donw my pulling but fairly effective......for me that is.

  • I wanna pull Ju Ju Chang's Vaginal hair and eat it

  • please listen all trichitillomania sufferers!!! I have found a way to control my urges, I have been pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows for 10 years, now like most of you, I guess, it is down to stress! I have found that a course of acupuncture really helped, I went to a chines medicine shop I have regular acupuncture , maybe once a week for 6 weeks, and a course of de-stressing tablets that I took everyday for the entire course that she recommended, I can honestly say it changed my life!!!!

  • I can't believe she showed everyone her head. I had trich since i was 9 and i have never never been able to show or tell my doctor about trich. May God give her strength to stop pulling.

  • She is so brave to explain to the world how difficult trich is. It is a constant struggle.

  • I feel badly for her....

  • I have trichotillomania. I'm on meds. for it.... Like she said, if I could stop, I would.....

  • @kipl8 i almost feel normal now

  • mandy is actually soooo pretty! i hope she stays strong!

  • What is do is keep my hair tightly braided with fake hair so i dont get the urge, and even when I do I cant pull out as nearly as much ( I may pull out the fake hair insted of my real hair, i really just grab a strand and pull). Eventily when I cant do anything the urge slows, but when the braids get old and the are hairs sticking out the urge returns so I get it freshly done. Im going to keep this up for five years so my brain gets the message and hopefully that worthless gene is turned off.

  • @chadolution it isn't about being bald! I am a trich sufferer but I'm not as bad, I pull out my eyelashes and right now watching this I wanna pull them out and I raise my hand up to do it and there is nothing there to pull :( it breaks me everytime I do it and I cant stop, do you think I like walking around with bald eyes? Do you think this is the look we picked for ourselves? If we could stop right away we would but we can't! I cant even go to the dustbins without false eyelashes on! I may hav

  • I think you lot are amazing !!!!! i have the same thing but its so hard to stop but im starting to stop i think.

  • I stopped pulling my eyelashes and hair about 1 year ago, and I can thank my girlfriend for that!

For me it helped to have something to use your time on. After some months i just... forgot to pull, weird as it sounds but it's true. I have all my eyelashes and no bald spots behind my ears (it was there my hair pulling was).

And I'm just so happy, and I hope all you others with trich will find a cure for yourselfs! Everything has a cure, you sometimes just have to find it yourself.

  • Mandy is my hero! I wish I were as brave as her!

  • If you want to be bald, just shave your head. Or use an electric shaver.

  • @Chadolution We don't do it because we want to be bald!!!! The baldness is a side affect from the pulling that we can't resist.

  • @Chadolution I'm a girly girl, living in Los Angeles where image is everything - I DEFINITELY don't do it because I want to be bald, it's just a habit. People who suffer with Trich definitely don't do it to be bald.

  • i can say this ever since i accepted another religion, i wont say! i can prevent pulling my hair out! yay it took me along time to over come this! You have to have the desire to stop and to change the habit...yup!

  • I have been pulling out my eyelashes (13 years), some parts of my beard (10 years) and recently started pulling out eyebrows. I have stopped fighting this for a couple years now, and just enjoy the feeling of the "pluck". It's like a synaptic orgasm. I do try to stop pulling out my eyebrows as that is very noticable (as a guy). People don't notice that I don't have any eyelashes, and also I can shave my face, but definitely don't want bald eyebrows.

  • I have this condition. I pull out my eyelashes and I would hide them in a cup or a container. There are certain places on my head where I like to pull one piece of hair and see the root. Sometimes I will touch my eyelash and it would hurt. I would keep pulling until I pull the hurtful lash. My eye would stop hurting after I have taken out the hurtful lash.

Sometimes I don't even know that I am doing it. I have a small thin spot on my head I can't go bald I am too pretty. ;_; it makes me sad.

  • Hey, i have this and am soon going to get a weave so that the remaining hair i have now will get a chance to grow, has anyone else done this and gotten good results???

  • Comment removed

  • 2 weeks without pulling out a hair, pretty relieving.

  • The fact that the model could not model anymore because of her Trich, points to psychological factors. Genes can be turned on or off by our interaction with the environment. Perhaps, she has very low self-esteem and the hair pulling was a compensatory mechanism aimed at reducing her chances of being rejected as a model, etc. She can instead practice "avoidance" by having no hair.

  • rein41, congrats to ur mom for her success, but please becareful on using the words WILL POWER with this condition. I have overcome a drinking problem, an eating disorder, and watching my mother die, but I still can't stop pulling, been over 20 years now. In the documentary "Bad Hair Life" they have seen people overcome HEROINE addictions, but still can't stop pulling. For some people the condition is more severe, while for others it's more mild.

  • i went through high school with this, 4 years with barely any hair on my eyebrows and eyelashes...im a very smart guy, straight A student, athletic, but i just couldn't stop...there was nothing i could do about it...life was horrible...but i grew out of it thank god...now that im not oing it anymore, im still struggling with the after effects of walking around with everyone looking at you as a freak (including family)...and not being able to even explain yourself...its hard man...but itl be ok

  • im suffered this. and all im goin to do is try to do something else. playing games, drawing, writing...

and it even make me want to pull it even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im not sure if i have this disease or not. i do pull my hair out. only in the back. and there is a bald spot, but its not that noticable. im just really scared im gonna be teased, because i just recently found out that this girl called me baldy. and i didnt know that people from my own school know. and now im being left out. i really want to stop, its so hard though. im scared it wont grow back, can someone please comment and tell me any advice?

  • @Kichea77 Don't worry, your hair will grow back. I think I have the same problem as you. I don't know if I have this disease, but I do pull out my hair but it's not noticeable. Only a little in the top. I'm kind of interested in why you pull out your hair. Has it just become a habit?

  • @JaredLoverEver well, last year i was playing with my hair, and its really weird, but some hairs where thicker. i dont know why but i started to pull my hair out just to see the hair, and then I would just feel it. i dont to tht anymore. i just pull, i've been trying to stop. its kinda working. did yours just become a habit?

  • @Kichea77 That's how I started.

  • @Kichea77 Oh okay. Thanks for your answer :) well I found out that when you pull out hair sometimes you get the root, and when that happens I get some sort of satisfaction... so I could just sit hours and hours trying to get the root when pulling out my hair.. I'm just trying to force myself to stop when I realize what I'm doing.

  • @JaredLoverEver thats just what happened to me! then, one day i saw the root. and i liked it. its might sound weird but sometimes i feel it, because its wet. i've been improving on trying to stop. and i only do it a couple times a day.

  • @Kichea77 exactly!! I've not heard of anyone experiencing this exact thing before, so knowing I'm not the only one with this issue was very relieving to me.

I'm also trying my hardest to stop, and I only do it a couple times a day too. So be proud of yourself! :)

  • @JaredLoverEver omg you too!! It something about the damn root. It is the root of a hair pulling issue!!!! I like seeing it too. I dont know why. Its like once you pull the hair there this little white dot it's fascinating for some strange reason. not just with lashes but hair on my head. I would take one strand and pull at the base of my scalp and it would just uproot itself. It's crazy!! I dont want to be bald.

  • my 4 year old has tricho nd i dnt kno wat else to do but shave her head this is so depreesing for me she has had sience she was 1 nd a half

  • i want to stop hair pulling but i took some medications it only works for a while then i start doing it again

  • I have had trich since i was 12 and I am now 24, I actually stopped for awhile when I was in training for the military, but it didnt last. I was completely bald in junior high and most of high school, now I can keep my hair up and mostly covered it, but you can tell its thin, I just want to wear my hair down again!!!

  • Listen everyone my mom had it and guess what she used will power she doesn't have a wig she doesn't pull on her hair and shes 52 she went idk 40 years without it and i have it and i just found out i have trich but my family has a strong will except for my sister (shes a lush) lol WILL POWER XD

  • I'm pretty sure I have Trich (glad to know what its called now, I thought it was OCD) b/c I pull eyelashes and my eyebrows out, been doing it since I was eleven. I've pulled out all my eyelashes several times before. Trying to stop though, I always get jealous when I see someone with thick eyelashes, lol.

  • I haven't been able to keep a moustache for years now, I end up picking at it, and eventually have to shave it, I pull my eywbrows now. Fucking ridiculous disease!!

  • i'm a male with trich, made 2 videos, feel free to watch...

  • i have had this for 8 years so far since i was ten. i wear a wig, and i cant even go a day without pulling. it sucks, if i dont wear a wig i wear a hat or something. its hard to live with, and i wish i could stop.

  • I had this really bad for 3 years i cured it! All i did was use a stress ball and krpty gands ocupide try it,it works! :)

  • btw 2 keep my hands bzy asa tip i usually either pik my nails or do oragami.

  • i hav thisbut im almost dun. my lashes and brows r growing in. i hav sum motivators 2. i can wear makeup if i quit (im 11 so i dont wear makeup yet.) the dr sez if i dont stop they mite not gro bak and i wont haf 2 c a specialist that i HATE

  • I have a mild case of trichotillamania :/ i was younger , pulling out my eyelashes and had to listen to people point it out .. I hated myself, and honestly i still do.. Bad things always happen to me .. But this time, theres no cure

  • I have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and also Trich, but in a very small grade. (I tend to pull out the hair only of the back side of my head). Both disorders started at age 11, I have 24 now and still with these problems. I read that some ppl says that Trich has nothing to do with OC, but i think they are wrong, both are impulsive control disorders. I'd like to know if some of you that have Trich, do also have OC..

  • i have been pulling my hair out since i was 12, im nearly 30! in wish i could stop. i have tried CBT which did not work. So i shaved all my hair off so its not long enough for me to pull it, im hoping this will break the habit

  • I had this in the 4th grade, but i managed to stop. Maybe i was only able to stop because i was in the early stages? i dont know. I only managed to stop when my teacher came up to me one day(two weeks after i started pulling out my hair) and asked me, "did you burn your eyelashes?" or something along those lines. I was so overcome with shame that i gradually slowed down the hair puling the next week. then i stopped altogether

  • i feel bad for them i know how they feel

  • this vid totally made me cry. I feel her pain.

  • i had it in 5th and 6th grade and i stopped ate the beginning of 7th and now this month i kinda started again i know right now its not too late to stop btw im in 9th grade , i just hope i would be able to stop ... i am scared of having what happened to me in the past , happening again !! ><

  • @AnimalLover881 Hun, i'm in ninth grade too. I also have Trich. I only pull my eyelashes. All you have to do is keep your hands busy. Play with a necklace, draw, tap your hands, or even bite your nails. People say it's bad too, but biting my nails helped me stop pulling out my lashes. Just stay strong and I will pray for you. <3

  • @tessagirl4408 thank you ! it turn out its from anxiety so i'm taking pills for anxiety and its started to help me =D i don't do it as much now

  • Pleasurable pain!!! yes, that's why I do it!!! But no ashamed or regreted (i do it in public and don't care, and i'm not near bold either cuz i have a lot of hair), so i'll just keep going for a while :D

  • Mandy you are always my prom queen. I have that disorder also. I've been doing it for almost 2 years now. It's very sad becuz I can't seem to stop. I've tried and tried. And trust me, it's very hard to stop. I've been trying to sit on my hands or do watever to keep my hands away. But it's super hard...hard.

  • I am lucky to have a mom who understands, she did the same thing when she was my age, but what scares me is that she grew out of it but I didn't.

  • I am literally crying right now because of this video. Why? I'm 14 and I've been pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows for 6 years. It's so hard, going through each and every day, always thinking about how much I hate myself. I used to think that praying to God would somehow help me stop pulling. Nothing's happened for years, and I stopped believing. In my opinion, if there was a God he wouldn't let me keep living a life of humiliation, tears, and self-hatred. I don't know what to do anymore...

  • @Dolphinwake It started with my eyebrows and now I pull out eyelashes and hair on my head. It's a hell of a condition. I don't have it as bad as the women in this video, but it still sucks. I'm pretty sure there is no God. There's no God that cares anyway.

  • I have the same problem, I can't grow a beard without pulling it..

  • This behavioral disorder is so hard to restrain from. And it very difficult to explain to people, especially parents, because it habit you cant explain. You feel a scene of relief and you forget that your doing it because your concentrated on something eles. So thats why i have an immense amount of respect and admiration for people who come out and post videos and comments. It lets you know your not alone. Thanks girls

  • I'm honestly not ashamed anymore, I have, fortunately, a milder version of this disorder than the average sufferer...I wear a weave when the pulling gets more intense. This helps in order for me to not be able to access the hair. Give it a try ^^

  • I have this and im 13 and my mom thinks its a joke

  • @MsSuperwoman46 Get a weave if it's your scalp hair. I just got mine and it prevents you from pulling hence a "cure"

  • @Sin355 I would but my mom doesnt want me with weave she says my hair is to beautiful

  • @MsSuperwoman46 I got trich when I was around 12 and my mother thought it was a joke too until she seen the bald spots.

  • @MSChelsey1988 She saw them she said that if i didnt stop she was going to whoopmy ass

  • i've had this since i was about 6 or 7, i've gotten better... kind of, i dont like or mean to do it, but i know i cant control it, and i got sick of being picked on by people who dont understand it, so i changed where i pulled my hair from. i pull it from places people wont notice, like my legs, i still struggle trying not to pull my head hair, eyebrows and eye lashes, but i know that if i do pull from there i will upset my family and myself so i rederect the urge to other places.

  • @MissDumpling92 That's how I grew my hair back. That worked for 7 yrs, and now I'm back trying to redirect the pulling from my scalp.

  • I've been dealing with this since I was about 11 years old. I am not a Freshmen in college. I have gotten better but I still do have moments where I can't control it.

  • ive had this since i was like 8 and now im 17.

    no one understands

  • I can't believe their are so many that have the same problen that I can not stop doing. I need help with this and I need to stop. I wan to stop but How! Its so hard. Most of the time I wouldn't even notice.

  • @trainia i know how u feel, ive had it since i was in primary school,i just kept doing it and i didnt even notice.it might not work for you but instead of pulling my hair out,i to bite my nails instead, and did anything to keep my hands busy.its kinda worked even though i still do it abit. i hope it helps xx

  • Im 18 and iv had Trichotillomania disorder since i was 10 i remember pulling out all my

eyebrows while sitting in the princibles office i guess it was the anxioty that started the obsesion.I finally found out what made me stop for good though, smoking marijuana.i know it sounds ridiculous but it works.you forget all about the urge and focus on other things that intrest you other than the hair pulling.im telling you it works

  • thank you

  • wow!!!!! i have that and it its embarrassing. its something i have dealt with since i was 8 and im now 36. i pray that 1 day i will be able to quit!!!

  • This piece was very well done.

  • this is crazy because i AM in Miss California teen. and i really want to be a model, but who will want me when there are bald spots. I can't do homework without touching my hair. does anyone know how I could deal with this?

its hard to see my dreams and hard work start to disappear before my eyes and turn into my hair out all around me

  • @ccizzlez Use your mental power to stop it. I used to crack my knuckles a lot but then one day I decided that "I am in control of my body and I decide what I do and what I won't do."

I FORCED my complete domination over my body.

If your dreams and hard work are worth enough you can force such a control over your own body, you might still not understand what I'm talking about, I guess I simply see it as a disgrace to be controlled by my own body, so I strive to always be in control instead.

  • @fog0death

I completely understand. I know i have control. I just have to be really conscious about it. My dreams are worth more than a cursed mental, gene, whatever it is.

Thank you=] It is always good to hear that people can have control, I know i will too.

  • @ccizzlez And if nothing works there's always a plan b.

You can tie your hands together to your back for a few weeks or a month and see what happens. Maybe you can ask a doctor to put a cast on your hands.

  • @fog0death

my cousins have strapped my left arm to my waist. It hurt a little but worked for the time being. Drove me a little crazy

  • @ccizzlez Go to tlc.org. They will help, they helped me and you can get better! Promise.

  • @breezy501

there is a "no pull a thon"

It said it was more for adults. I will check it out more though

  • @ccizzlez Have you ever heard of TLC? I wish everyone knew about that organization. They do research to figure out where this comes from, and now know it is NOT a form of OCD. If I can help anyone, I will.

  • I started pulling in 3rd grade.. I started with my eyebrows one day i was just bored.. Then my eyelashes... I still pull to this day EVERYDAY! My night is not complete without tweezers..Smdh. I went thru elementary & middle school with no brows or lashes i was so ugly and got teased ALOT. I really want some eyelashes! But everytime i try to stop i get bored n pull them out its like a drug. It actually feels good, like a little high. I rub the hair on my lip when i pull it out.. I know WEIRD

  • god this is the most emotionally painful thing..... why does it feel like it completely destroys you? i was bald at 16.

  • you know... i think everyone has a strange habit that they would never talk about to anyone. but that is no reason to name every single habit in the world as a disorder and drug someone up because of it. i have a twitching habit. do i need prosaic? America these days. I find it odd that none of these disorders exist in the other countries. Or they do but they are not labeled and categorized to make people feel like they have a problem. people r built differently and have different bodies.

  • i have a mild version

i pull from my head but i dont neseserally pull the hair out of the root..what i do is weird..i usually roll it into a ball and then pull..usually because it rolled into a ball it only rips the hair..but it does come out of the root sometimes..i started when i was like 11 or 12 (im 16 now) i had some nots and i was having fun breaking them apart and thats how it started..and i cant stop since..but thankfully i dont have bald spots..only short hair..

  • @xSasuNaruAmutox

I too, roll my hair into a ball then pull it out. Sometimes I pull out the white DNA along with the little ball. I've had "my version" of trich since I was probably 4. So I've constantly been at my hair at a young age. It really got bad when I was around about 9 to 12 years old. I'm 15 and still pull it. (some days I do, somedays I don't) I can go without pulling for maybe 6-10 months after I get a new haircut. Also I've never been bald, I've always just had short hair.

  • @malego222

    wow really???

so we have the same case of it...

but uv had it longer..must suck more

and yeah..i got a haircut like almost 2 months ago and i started doing it again like 2 weeks ago..=_=..i cant last as long as u...im doing it a bit less but still...damn it sucks

  • @xSasuNaruAmutox

    Yeah, It does suck :(

Mine isn't too bad though. I mean, when I was younger (about 9 like I said) It was REALLY bad O_o Then it just wasn't later on.... The worst part about "trich" is.. you don't even know that your doing it.... (sometimes you do, and you have little arguments in your head....) and to me sometimes its like chicken pox (you gotta scratch) you just have to get the hair out, it feels like it doesn't belong... or something D:

  • @malego222

oh thats the worst..and when i do realize im doing it try stopping..i tell myself to spot but i dont..=_=..its soo annoying..blahh

and i was doing it a few minutes ago too..

also sometimes i get urges and uts soo hard to stop myself

  • i can only go about 3 days without pulling but my disorder is mild. i dont have bald spots anymore but i have short hair all over the place from pulling. i have a mild skin picking disorder too i started noticing. i bite the root too, sounds gross but if i dont do it it makes me have a over welming feeling and makes me pull more if i dont. i consider it a OCD and i hope theres a cure for us one day

  • the moment she asked her to reveal, i flooded tears.

i have trich so i completely understand and i can't explain how relieved i felt when i decided to do some research on the internet and found out it was a disease, that millions of people had. the feeling of relief of not being alone through the suffering.

  • My classmate has this disorder and didn't realize that it was a disease. I thought she had cancer but then came to find out it was a disorder! This disorder is crazy!

  • I started pulling my hair in 3rd grade, i started with my eyelashes, then my arms, then the hair on my head and now, my body hair

  • @ColdCharge same here.i started in 3rd grade with my eyebrows since then up until now i dont have eyebrows and i also pull my leg arm and body hair...but luckily not my head hair

  • I'm 20 now and I've had trich since I was 9. I was bullied a lot as a kid by teachers and classmates and from there it kind of started on its own. My mom would tell me to "knock it off" and that it was just a bad habit. I have a huge bald spot on the back of my head. I also plucked eyelashes and eyebrows as a child, but have ceased doing that for now. I am very ashamed, only my boyfriend understands what I'm going through and supports me, but I feel as though everyone else will reject me for it.

  • i know how they feel..

  • I had trich from the age of 14 all the way till I was 21,then suddenly,I just got this massive willpower to stop it!It absolutly sucked ass,it was ruining my self esteem,it was traumatising me,I couldnt stop, for years,I dont know how I am over it. I often think, yeah Im over it,but its like a scar that will never dissapear,it'l always be a battle, even if I never pull another strand again. Good luck to all you fellow trichy's,be strong! If I could do it,then ye can!xxx

  • i am 12...i have bald spots and im so glad other people have it! so i am not the only 1!!!!all my eyelashes and eyebrows r gone...it really really sux! i also have anxiety disorder wich makes it wayyy worse! :'(

  • @cheerpro771 me too xx

  • I have this disorder to..i thought i was the only one its hard to control it

  • i think i have this. i have been pulling my eyelashes out since i was 11 or 12 and i am 16 now. when i do it i dont even realize i'm doing sometimes, people would tell me i had really long beautiful eyelashes but now i have to hid it with eyeliner. i'm letting them grow in but i keep picking some, i can't go a while without pulling just one, then it's hard to stop. if my mom sees me do it she will yell at me and tell me to stop, she's trying to help but it makes me feel ashamed.

  • ): I have it too.

  • you are very very brave person ,

  • It is terrible but I think the most important is to be ok with yourself.

In fact, I have trich for more than 11 years but I gave up now and I feel better. I just have to "hide" the catastroph with make up.

    be brave people

  • i have trich too. 6 years and counting.

  • I have trich also. 6 years and counting.

  • i think i have trich...but i'm not sure. I pull at my hair constantly but i don't pull it out. I get a satisfying feeling when it snaps or breaks off into my finger (like its so sharp that it digs into my skin of my finger) i think what i enjoy most is feeling the different textures of hair i have..and i have control of it..like i'll do it privately at home only..i won't do it in public.. and i don't have bald spots..well..not yet.

    can someone clarify?

  • @xrawrhehe yeah... I think you do.

  • @xrawrhehe I've had it for half my life, and it sounds to me like you do not have trich. Maybe the satisfaction you get is somehow similar to trich, but since you are not pulling out, then I would say you are ok. However, my experience was that it starts out as a very minor habit and then gets worse as you become more dependent on it. I would urge you to be very vigilant with it, if you start pulling out, I would immediately work hard to quit. Good luck.

  • I hate this disease. I have been with the same person for 7 years and he's never seen my hair. He never will. This disorder is HORRIBLE. I feel like less of a woman every time I have to put on a wig to hide my head. It makes me feel shameful. It hurts...

  • my name is steffany and i am 11 i started in 11 im scared i wont do it no more i make a promise to me my family and friends

  • selamın aleyküm ağalar

  • I have found that going to see a psychiatrist and taking the low dose of prozac he prescribed has basically altogether stopped me from hair-pulling. I pulled my hair when I was stressed out, which caused high anxiety levels...leading me to hair pull.

  • I've been pulling ot my hair since I was 11. I pulled out so much of my hair in 8th grade I was called into the principals office cause they thought I had cancer.

  • I suffer with Trich. I pull from my head. My head is balding in some areas just like the ladies shown in this video. I also pull the hair from my head, bite the white root thingy off and spit it out, and sometimes, I chew it...I started when I was 23 yrs old and I was 6months pregnant, just breaking the ends of my hair, then it went to pulling--this will continue thanks to limited words

  • Continued: I use to chew my hair as a child and they said that could have been the first sign of trich. However, I dont know if its really genetic. I have no one in my family with this disorder. Its something I am learning to live with.

  • you guys should not EVER say there is no cure ! i started to pull my eyelashes out when i was 6, i have hatted myself so much since then, in grade 6, i started to pull my eyebrows, but i stopped , i never touched my hair tho, i am starting to stop pulling now, but it is really hard ! i just can't control it , i never tried any drugs to help it .... my mo wont let me ! but now i have about 1 third of them back, and hope i can some day stop for ever !

  • I've never pulled out hair from my scalp, but when I was younger I had phases where I had literally no eyelashes or eyebrows it got so bad. haha, my parents thought I was just weird and tried banning christmas presents until I stopped. I don't really have trichotillomania anymore, but now I obsessivley pick at spots and pores instead... eugh. I want to stop so badly, I feel disgusting and I have to wear long sleeves all the time because I have red marks all over my shoulders and back.

  • when I first started I was 9 and when I did it the first time I cut off my eyeleashes & thought it felt good. Now that im 15 I hate myself for that.I can never go any where with out makup and 1 eye I have to cover up with my bangs. I wish I could stop

  • I started at 4 with skin picking (scabs/hangnails/zits/pores), then eyelashes/eyebrows at 12, then pretty much EVERYWHERE but my head into my 20s. It's totally correlated with stress. I had 20 sessions of hypnotherapy in my 30s and it's almost in remission now (only the eyelashes come out once every 6 months). BUT, now I'm getting gray hairs and I tweeze them out. Guess I'll be doing this in some form or another until I die. Then again, I've accepted it and it no longer embarrasses me.

  • I am 51 and I've been pulling out my hair for 25 years. I also developed a bald spot at age 13. I managed to quit, and now I am able to keep it to a minimum and still have most of my hair. I have the habit of selecting a hair, then eating it. This condition is related to depression and anxiety. When I feel good I stop.

  • I'm 50 years old and have had this all my life. It can't be controlled. Stress makes it so much worse. If you want to help someone you know who has this don't say "Stop pulling your hair out", that makes it worse, Just say "How can we make things less stressful". Or say," No matter what, I love you and you're OK". Having trich makes you you feel so ashamed. Some meds do help a little, but it doesn't make it stop compeltely. We who have this are not freaks. Please try to understand not judge.

  • NO CURE MY ASS!!!!!!!!!

  • Guys ... i pull my hair. Im 11 years old and my mom makes me wear wigs 2 school and bullies threaten 2 pull it off ! And i still haven't told anybody ! Guys plz help.
