It's not fake. DS software uses the CPU speed for their timing. If you overclock the CPU, the game - video as well as sounds - plays faster, if you underclock it, it runs slower. It was the same with old computer games (back in MS DOS days), if you played them on a newer PC, the game ran too fast. Nowadays, PC software uses internal and independent clocks. Video games don't need that because they are compiled for only one set of hardware.

Modern computers are built to detect a wide range of clock speeds from many different processors and adapt to them, so they will always run at the same rate. No, I'm saying the DS is sped up at the same time as his hands are normal speeds. I don't know how old are technically inclined you are but not too long ago PC games used to rely on the clock speed of the processor, as this DS does. If the clock speed was too high, the game ran too fast, which was the use of the "Turbo" button on some old PCs you may see.

@hanrinch Good question I don't know. Perhaps it's just a debug, like the FPGA board has a 4 MHz reference signal and is multiplying it 6.25x, 12.5x or 25x. A normal DS runs at 67.028 MHz (the GPU ARM processor runs only at 33.514 MHz, exactly half speed.)
