bought one of these a few days ago. was getting worried if it wouldn't work with PAL, as one of the sellers said NTSC japan only, its probably too late to go back now, but can any one confirm these work with PAL n64s?
The quality of the N64 controller has kept me from ever really enjoying the console itself. Stomached my way through a few games like Banjo Kazooie, but hardly ever play the system simply because every one of my controllers has issues with the joystick. =(
@Sajun88 same with me and most games even require you to play with the stupid joystick you can't even play with de D-Pad! seriously worst joystick in the world..
@Dimitri0809 Interestingly, Nintendo wanted to make sure they had a back up plan in case 3D gaming failed and therefore kept the D-pad and the left handle of the N64 controller. 3D gaming worked (NOT the virtual boy :P) and Nintendo did not look back
why are those hori pads so expensive? i want one cuz they look super comfortable to play with compared to the regular controller but they're all $60-70 on ebay. :|
@d2ddios Well at the time Nintendo was taking a giant risk with the analog stick and 3D gaming. They wanted to keep the analog stick to fall back on in a comfortable position in case their ideas failed. Only upon Nintendo's success does the standard controller seem foolish.
even using my controllers for mario party a fair amount and tons of other games, I never created a 'limp' joystick with any my controllers, my first one is only starting to go slightly limp but its still working to its purpose. I got my n64 around launch time.. so I don't understand how people wreck their controllers.
I have been interested in getting a hori pad because people rave about how good the stick is, but if its overly sensitive and not usable for games like perfect dark then fk it.
@scikoolaid If you're like me and played mario party with a bunch of friends for months at a time, then they got destroyed from tug of war and games like that. we also played tons of bomberman which abused rotating the joystick, and the easiest way to do it was to not use our thumbs, but the palm of our hands.
I had one of these. It's very small, even for my small hands... And thumbstick is VERY sensitive, aiming is very hard (as mentioned in this review). If you plan to use it for Goldeneye of Perfect Dark, think again.
Hi I was wondering does the hori pad n64 controller work with all the n64 USB adapters? I live in USA I wana make sure before I buy one of the hori n64 controller
@atonewithnature Great question and sorry I did not answer it in my review. In short, the Hori Mini Pad does NOT work with all adapters-you need specific ones. I know that the Bliss-box will work and the Raphnet technologies (search them in google) do work. Hope this helps!
@adruen19 I am unsure of that for certain yet, but they are very similar to the gamecube control sticks and they have not worn out for me after seven years so I would be hopeful they would not!

Would of been better if Nintendo had just made the gamecube controller the standard controller for the N64 and continue it on to the next gen.

The Joystick on the Hori pad is from the prototype Gamecube controller.

@lithium017 They could've made it a V2, like what Microsoft did with the original Xbox.
