In all problems during and after WW1, Russian influence was more direct for a short time, but French one was more cunning. Both countries politics about this territory collapsed. The Armenians have been the victims of promises, no one were able to hold. Besides themselves, Armenians have France and Russia to blame for all pain they had in the history. Interesting, I myself (as you may have guessed by my name) am Armenian. I have heard the accounts of both sides of the 'affair'. I know that Turkey has, by all accounts a poor human rights record and Armenia, as with a number of other countries have serious issues with the recognition of events.
I know Armenians who hate Turks, and vice versa, I also know those who don't wish either side harm, but seek some form of verbal reconciliation. In my personal view, I would like to see a safer relationship in the region, including the other bordering countries, but I fear this will not happen in my lifetime, or for longer times to come, due to the religious nature that underlies the connection, and as you have put it, western imperialism - which has disrupted relationships in the area.
I can recommend further reading to you on this subject - I'll have to dig out a few books first though! I would welcome any further comments you have, and be interested in source materials you have to help continue the debate.

In all problems during and after WW1, Russian influence was more direct for a short time, but French one was more cunning. Both countries politics about this territory collapsed. The Armenians have been the victims of promises, no one were able to hold. Besides themselves, Armenians have France and Russia to blame for all pain they had in the history. Interesting, I myself (as you may have guessed by my name) am Armenian. I have heard the accounts of both sides of the 'affair'. I know that Turkey has, by all accounts a poor human rights record and Armenia, as with a number of other countries have serious issues with the recognition of events.

I know Armenians who hate Turks, and vice versa, I also know those who don't wish either side harm, but seek some form of verbal reconciliation. In my personal view, I would like to see a safer relationship in the region, including the other bordering countries, but I fear this will not happen in my lifetime, or for longer times to come, due to the religious nature that underlies the connection, and as you have put it, western imperialism - which has disrupted relationships in the area.
