  • I wonder how influential BOC was to dubstep or maybe this track was influence by the early sounds of Dubstep 2000s was the starting period when it was becoming less 2 step dark garage and more like half steppy.

Because I defiantly hear beat structure of someone like Mala or Distance or any of the early guys.

  • Or is it saying "focus inward"...?

  • Hey, great choice on the video footage!

  • Just realized i am playing this for 5th time in loop.

  • not to bring the mention of dubstep into a boards of canada discussion, but has anyone else noticed the similarity of the beat structure here with what would get HUGE about a decade later?

  • @attheedgeofthewood In my mind at least, dubstep is simply an amalgamation of preceding artists like BOC and Aphex Twin. It is a shame that the true electronic pioneers won't get the same commercial recognition as say Skillrex. It'd be really interesting to know what artists working now will make such a marked influence on the future of music. My money for now at least lies with Flying Lotus and everyone over at Brainfeeder.

  • @attheedgeofthewood There's a Fourtet interview where he mentions how so much of what's considered "new" in the London electronic scene has been done before. I'm not against the recycling of old ideas however. I think artists like Flying Lotus, Shlohmo, Burial, Zomby, Gold Panda etc are all forging new ground while paying their respects to the pioneers of "electronic music."

  • @attheedgeofthewood much less than a decade later in the UK mate, dubstep went huge here in 2005 - international by 2006.

  • oh my god..... this needs a release...... soooo bad.

  • the beats are pure joy

  • the sampled lyric is 'love is in me' btw

  • @Vertsk8er419 how come you're so sure of that? To me it sounds like the "o" in the beginning of the sample is more of and "au" or "ou"... plus kind of a "c" or "k" in the middle, maybe. haha...Oh these interpretations :)

  • @plisb i'm not, i just wanted to stir something up by saying so definitively what i think it says :)

  • @Vertsk8er419

    yep, plain as day

  • i was at this gig... i have to say it was one of my better decisions

  • @stfcgrey Isn't it sad that Katy Talentless-Cunt Perry and every other 'pop' joke gets a billion live shows a year, and talented artists, even the ones that attempt to do shows, can barely secure a venue or tickets? The world is full of stupid people that continue to support stupid people like Katy Perry.

I am incredibly jealous of you.

  • This sounds like something else. Though such hard inflicting drums/snare sounds uncomfortably unlike boc, as does the speed. Though at the same time it does sound incredibly boc.

    i like boc

  • "focus in me"

  • In my humble opinion Ae is excellent and the Ae music escape of my interpretation, is just that Autechre was never achieving to extract a tear.

  • @toalla1 I see what you're getting at but imo ae songs like Bronchusevenmx24 and Vietrmx21, and some gescom stuff, absolutely have brought a tear or two to my eyes. Surely BoC is easier to connect to etc. but whatever man, lets just enjoy the makings of epics from these artists :)

About this specific tune, today is the first time in a looong while I listened to it - again, just WOW.

  • Thanks for saving my life of an eternal hell of electronic boring music, I wish a great life boc...

  • The internet is evil. Wake up!

  • So there's no way I'd be able to get this in better quality? Great upload anyway, thanks!

  • those chords from 7:46 are amazing

  • No wonder they never play live, they probably realize that too many people talk and aren't really giving enough attention. Then again they do apparently hold their own Red Moon parties and I can't imagine it's all silent with people staring dead straight as the brothers play their tunes. But it's probably more personal there. Can't imagine feeling to great seeing a bunch of people drinking and talking over music that is more meant to be taken in and appreciated than talked over =p

  • Sounds like Autechre a bit to me

  • @fenneszfan Sean Booth is the only reason you know about BoC. This track sounds like Ae, but I don't think BoC sounds like Autechre when taken as a whole. Not that it matters. I like both so it's all the same from the standpoint of like / dislike.

  • @bobbygnosis No, sorry, I knew about BoC before Autechre

  • @fenneszfan Sean Booth signed BoC.

  • @bobbygnosis

Ae sleeps on the lap of BOC..

Each of them has its own style, but personally I consider that Ae possesses a futurist and inorganic point of view, in Ae there are neither nature or tranquility, ther's just brighted steel, plastic and any stones...

Boc is a pure and harmonious peace, beautiful peace in wave forms!!!!

  • @toalla1 Apart from the slight negative rendering of Ae I agree with your assessment.

  • i sincerely hope BoC does a set at Coachella or Glasto sometime in the future. There's nobody I'd rather attend live in the world actually.

  • This track is wonderful!

  • Boards of Canada will sound like whatever your mind wants to hear ;) HeArt iS SinGing, hEarT Is sinGIng, heArt is siNgIng, HearT IS SinginG, I hEArd YOU sinGIng, I heard you singing, HEard You SingING! GOD IS SINGING, god is singing GoD iS sInGiNg :)
  • definitely sounds like "condescending condescending condescending" and then "the one and only, the one and only, the one and only, (HI!)"

regardless of what it is, i know my life would be complete for about a week with these unknown tracks released. especially spiro

  • I would sell my first born to see this live.

  • heartissinging heartissinging heartissinging heartissinging heartissinging heartissinging heartissinging myyyyyyyyyheartissinging

  • The robotic voice is like a drug.

  • i have had every BoC recording and this one in particular for a long time. this track is my absolute favorite. im not even sure why. thanks so much for putting it up here so it can be shared with others easily! and i agree, as far i know this is untitled.

  • @thebetterhalf37 Hey, would you be willing to send the mp3 to a fellow Boc fan?

  • I'd have to tell that stupid girl who keeps yelling to shut the fuck up or leave if I were there.

  • OMG! It's just SOOOOOOOO Good! :0

  • such wicked tunes, got a real live sound in the way it progresses. i'd love to know the technolography behind this 10-year old session!

  • Parkensons, harvisting mocassins, It's quite the ambiguous sample! :)

  • Just shows that some bands/groups sounds don't always migrate from studio to

    stage with alacrity.

  • Sure is friccassee in here.

  • Condescending, Condescending

  • @StryCratyBya 1:15 <my favorite section.

Sorry you didn't like the joke.

  • @bobbygnosis No one was talking to you.

  • @StryCratyBya That makes me feel like a bigger douche than before.

  • @bobbygnosis Sorry.

  • @StryCratyBya It's okay. I kind of am a douche.

    (handlebar moustache and what not)

  • frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency frequency

  • theyre saying "i'll be singing, I'll be singing, I'll be singing, I'll be singing, Very soon I'll be singing very soon, I'll be singing."

and then they switch to "the one told me, the one told me, the old told me. the one one told me now, the one told me now, the one told me now." and at least once I hear, "you like it like that, you like it like that, you like it like that."

  • Is there a dog barking in the background?

  • "CLOCK IS TICKING" for sure!

  • work this thingy!!! i think as well

  • Refocusing, Refocusing, Refocusing, Refocusing, focusing, focusing, focusing, understanding.

  • sounds to me like "adversary"

  • understanding heaven. we could call it that

  • I wonder if the morons in the background had any clue what they were privy to ... peasants!

  • great song. they sound just as good live

  • Wow, just randomly found this, I went to this event at the Truman Brewery I managed to blag tickets from a guy at Warp in Sheffield, Gruff from Super Furries, most of Mogwai and the Hatrnoll Brothers were there, much of the night was sketchy though, for obvious reasons.. thanks for posting!

  • Weren't Bjork there as well? Messy!

  • boomshadoom CLAP!

    boomshadoom CLAP!

  • i like 5:01

  • mhhmm!

  • WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS SONG?

  • @JimmyDiggs87 there isnt a name. its untitled

  • kizzle music.

  • Must've listened to this one a hundred times over the years. Seriously epic jams; find the mp3 if possible. Quality is already bad enough without being run through youtube. 'One, two, three... and four!'

  • I desperately need a new album from them, I'm going cold turkey now. It's been four years since the campfire, they MUST be working on something.

  • Can't wait for the new album

  • I heard they they have kids or something now so they cant spend that much of thier time towards music anymore, But please dont stop making music, Make a some more albums please!!!

  • There was a report on BoC that an album was in the making for the second half of this year, they have families but making music is still fulltime for them.

  • theyre finishing a 4th album for Warp as we speak. Dont worry a new album is on its way, theyre just huge perfectionists so thats why theres no release date yet

  • okay sure.

  • that's also why they seem secretive

  • you think the vocoder is saying "i love this thingy" ?

  • :47...

reminds me of salvia for sure.

  • This is, to date, one of my favorite BoC tracks.

  • I have this mp3 in Hi-qual...they're like vein sugar...they need to put out a new album already...love these guys.

  • How can i get hold of this?? :-)

  • gougle 'youtube downloader', its allgood!

  • Sometimes I ride my bike with this track in my head.

  • Boards of Canada are ace!!!

  • this is michael and marcus' remix of 'crank dat soulja boy'

  • WILL THEY EVER PLAY AGAIIIN!!??

  • Word is, they are gonna play soon for Warp20! keep an eye on the website, they're pretty much keeping it hush hush right now (just for a change) i think it is highly possible though!!

  • I wonder if the morons in the background had any clue what they were privvy to ... pathetic

  • I wonder if they knew that Boards would only play a thumb nail full of performances in the next 10 years. Agree though

  • Yeah ... ya really got to wonder about that ... they're popular enough to make some serious coin on an even limited world tour ... their website is a joke and hasnt been updated in years ... I wonder if they got into some bad acid or something

  • Yeah they should have thought about the geeks on youtube complaining in years to come!

  • HOLY SHIT ! This track is subliminally sublime. Sad they haven't released a proper version.

  • I would pay blood to see BoC live. This is absolutely fantastic.

  • Definitely.

  • Yeah, maybe they would arrange something like that: "Give Blood and See BoC!"

  • So would I. I am literally dying for a new album. I would lose a tooth to see them play live!

  • @Feyd01 i would probably too.

  • @Feyd01 I would pay marrow..

  • This is pretty special.

  • can someone please send me a link to some live boards of canada! ive looked everywhere...

  • they don't do live shows. there's no video of that kind on the internet

  • there are bootlegs of varying quality from 3 live shows they did around 10 years ago. try slsk.

  • By slsk he means the filesharing program, Soulseek. You will find what you are looking for there most definately.

  • This.

By the way, it's worth noting that the recording I got on Slsk of this track is 11:23, not 10:49. Hopefully that helps you find it!

  • This song is one of my favourites.

i cant wait for the next album, i just want more and more. my aim in life is to see them live, somehow....

  • I think that's more up to them than you. They never play out.

  • exactly. itll never happen. but i can live in hope

  • why would anyone talk over Boards of Canada?

  • medicine, medicine, medicine, medicine, medicine, broadcasting medicine, medicining

  • haha, damn I trying hard not to hear that now. Always liked the idea that it is something with "singing"

  • @October14th2008 ha that's all i hear now

  • yeah i don't think ANYONE knows the real name of this track. classic BoC though-vocoder vocals, kids laughing, and counting. I have MP3s of all three live sets recorded and this one is by far the best.

  • Its gone down in folklore as 'The Vocoder Track From Warp 10'.

Warp 20 gig/s next year should be rather big and hopefully good.

  • Boards of Canada are visionaries...I love them!!!

  • Does anybody kknow anthing about there being another album???

  • I WANT ANOTHER ALBUM!!!!

  • I'd like all the goodies!

  • Yes, please!!

  • Aye I think we all do.

  • so good. the vocoding is so sweet.

  • This is amazing. O_o

  • Geez this song is reeeeeally good, kinda weird it hasn't been put out by them. It would be incredible seeing them live. I pray to God they come out of hiding and join us for Coachella this year.

  • Definately Boc and it was the warp 10 party but it was 1999 not 2000. Saw these guys at ATP 2001 and at the Warp lighthouse party. Unbelievably good. They have a habit of making tunes that they play live but haven't released. I reckon with Warp buying their back catalogue this stuff will all feature in a box set at some point!

  • this song reminds me a bit of chinook. i pray every day for news of a new boards of canada album.

  • dudes... I have been trying to find out what song this is for years. I have the mp3 and am dying to find a cleaner studio version. If anybody can identify it, PLEASE HELP.

  • same here. downloaded 8-10 years ago, been dying to find out what it is, and the rest of the set, ever since.

  • It's only identified as "Audiotrack 07" from the "Live @ Warp's 10th Birthday" set. The list is as follows:

    1) Zoetrope

    2) Happy Cycling

    3) The Color of Fire

    4) Telephasic Workshop & The Smallest Weird Number

    5) Aquarius

    6) 1986 Summer Fires

    7) Audiotrack 07

    Great set!

  • This is indeed an excerpt from the BOC set at the Warp 10th birthday concert. You can find the whole set online if you know where to look.

Amongst the audience chatter, the same people's voices can be heard in the other tracks. It actually goes quite well with the tunes.

  • I have this as a BoC download. I'm not entierly sure, but the samples suggest the kind of motive operandi au BoC. That said, whether or not this is BoC I [F]ing love it. If it is not I would like know who this is [rhetorical/literal].

Yeah, this does sound like BoC to me.
